Abstract:The focus of this study was to investigate the effects of casting and sintering behavior of fine fire clay at different particle sizes on the sanitaryware body. Bodies were shaped by casting and fired in a tunnel and box kiln. Findings showed that the particle size of fire clay decreased as casting rates increased. Firing shrinkage also increased in the body containing finer particle size. Deformation in the body containing finer grain was found to be higher than that in the coarse-grained body. Therefore, it can be said that sanitaryware bodies containing small particle-sized fire clay can be cast faster and in shorter time. Durable and long-life products without cracking should be determined according to either the rate of raw materials, soaking time, or thermal expansion coefficient between the body and glaze.
