Abstract:In this study, ultrahigh-strength ultrahigh-toughness cementitious composites (UHS-UHTCC) having a compressive strength of 183 MPa, tensile strain capacity of 4.7% (470 times that of ordinary concrete), and excellent crack resistance (an average crack width of 82 μm at the ultimate tensile strain) were developed. Compared to high-strength ultrahigh-toughness cementitious composites, UHS-UHTCC showed significantly higher mechanical strength and narrower tensile crack width but lower tensile strain capacity. It was also found that the micro-polyethylene and steel fibers effectively bridged the cracks in UHS-UHTCC. These findings are useful for the design of cementitious composites with ultrahigh strength and ultrahigh ductility, and the developed UHS-UHTCC has excellent potential for application in civil infrastructures.
