Abstract:We prove that in dimension 3, Anosov flows which are $\mathbb{R}$-covered and skewed are orbit equivalent to Reeb-Anosov flows. We characterize the existence of an invariant contact form or of a Birkhoff section with a given boundary, in terms of linking numbers between two invariant signed measures. Furthermore, we prove the existence of open book decompositions with one boundary component for Reeb-Anosov flows.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth subvariety of CP^N. We study a flow, called balancing flow, on the space of projectively equivalent embeddings of X, which attempts to deform the given embedding into a balanced one. If L->X is an ample line bundle, considering embeddings via H^0(L^k) gives a sequence of balancing flows. We prove that, provided these flows are started at appropriate points, they converge to Calabi flow for as long as it exists. This result is the parabolic analogue of Donaldson's theorem relating balanced embeddings to metrics with constant scalar curvature [JDG 59(3):479-522, 2001]. In our proof we combine Donaldson's techniques with an asymptotic result of Liu-Ma [arXiv:math/0601260v2] which, as we explain, describes the asymptotic behaviour of the derivative of the map FS\circ Hilb whose fixed points are balanced metrics.

Existence of arbitrary large numbers of non-$\mathbb R$-covered Anosov flows on hyperbolic $3$-manifolds

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to prove that, for every $n\in \mathbb N$, there exists a closed hyperbolic $3$-manifold $M$ which carries at least $n$ non-$\mathbb R$-covered Anosov flows, that are pairwise non-orbitally equivalent. Due to a recent result by Fenley, such Anosov flows are quasi-geodesic. Hence, we get the existence of hyperbolic $3$-manifolds carrying many pairwise non-orbitally equivalent quasi-geodesic Anosov flows. Based on the orbit space theory of Anosov flows developed by Fenley and Barbot, we completely studied the connected components of edge-adjacent lozenges, say, clusters in the orbit spaces of the Anosov flows in construction. The number of the lozenges of a cluster and a type of orientations on the clusters together are used as dynamical invariants to prove that the flows we construct are not orbitally equivalent. We believe that those dynamical invariants could be used in a much wider context.

A Proof On Arnold Chord Conjecture

Abstract:In this article, we first give a proof on the Arnold chord conjecture which states that every Reeb flow has at least as many Reeb chords as a smooth function on the Legendre submanifold has critical points on contact manifold. Second, we prove that every Reeb flow has at least as many close Reeb orbits as a smooth round function on the close contact manifold has critical circles on contact manifold. This also implies a proof on the fact that there exists at least number n close Reeb orbits on close (2n-1)-dimensional convex hypersurface in R^2n conjectured by Ekeland.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a generalisation of Schlenk's theorem about the existence of contractible periodic Reeb orbits on stable, displaceable hypersurfaces in symplectically aspherical, geometrically bounded, symplectic manifolds, to a forcing result for contractible twisted periodic Reeb orbits. We make use of holomorphic curve techniques for a suitable generalisation of the Rabinowitz action functional in the stable case in order to prove the forcing result. As in Schlenk's theorem, we derive a lower bound for the displacement energy of the displaceable hypersurface in terms of the action value of such periodic orbits. The main application is a forcing result for noncontractible periodic Reeb orbits on quotients of certain symmetric star-shaped hypersurfaces. In this case, the lower bound for the displacement energy is explicitly given by the difference of the two periods. This theorem can be applied to many physical systems including the Hénon–Heiles Hamiltonian and Stark–Zeeman systems. Further applications include a new proof of the well-known fact that the displacement energy is a relative symplectic capacity on and that the Hofer metric is indeed a metric.

Exponential mixing and essential spectral gaps for Anosov subgroups

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a Zariski dense $\Theta$-Anosov subgroup of a connected semisimple real algebraic group for some nonempty subset of simple roots $\Theta$. In the Anosov setting, there is a natural compact metric space $\mathcal{X}$ equipped with a family of translation flows $\{a^{\mathsf{v}}_t\}_{t \in \mathbb R}$, parameterized by vectors $\mathsf{v}$ in the interior of the $\Theta$-limit cone $\mathcal{L}_\Theta$ of $\Gamma$, and they are Hölder conjugate to Hölder reparametrizations of the Gromov geodesic flow. We prove that for all $\mathsf{v}$ outside an exceptional cone $\mathscr{E} \subset \operatorname{int}\mathcal{L}_\Theta$, which is a smooth image of the walls of the Weyl chamber, the translation flow is exponentially mixing with respect to the Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure associated to $\mathsf{v}$. Moreover, the exponential rate is uniform for a compact set of such $\mathsf{v}$. We also obtain an essential spectral gap formulated in terms of the Selberg zeta function and a prime orbit theorem with a power saving error term. Our proof relies on Lie theoretic techniques to prove the crucial local non-integrability condition (LNIC) for the translation flows and thereby implement Dolgopyat's method in a uniform fashion. The exceptional cone $\mathscr{E}$ arises from the failure of LNIC for those vectors.

Abstract:We provide a 3 dimensional contact geometric characterization of Anosov 3-flows based on interactions with Reeb dynamics. We investigate basic properties of the space of the resulting geometries. A technical theorem on the expansion uniformization of adapted norms is proved, which can be of broader interest.

Abstract:In this paper we present a proof of the Verjovsky conjecture: Every codimension-one Anosov flow on a manifold of dimension greater than three is topologically equivalent to the suspension of a hyperbolic toral automorphism. In fact, the conjecture is derived from possible more general result that says that for every codimension-one volume-preserving Anosov flow on a manifold of dimension greater than three, a suitable time change guarantees that the stable and unstable sub-bundles are then jointly integrable.

A New Proof of Anosov’s Averaging Theorem

Abstract:Introduction. I would like to describe and sketch the proof of a result in averaging theory I obtained recently with François Golse and Pierre Lochak [6]. Our result comprises both a new proof, as well as a generalization, of D.V. Anosov’s general multiphase averaging theorem [1] for systems of ODEs with slow variables evolving in Rm and fast variables evolving on a smooth compact immersed manifold. We extend Anosov’s work by allowing the fast variables to belong to an arbitrary smooth compact Riemannian manifold, and the vector field to have only Sobolev regularity. This is accomplished using normal form techniques adapted to a slightly generalized version of the DiPerna-Lions theory of generalized flows for ODEs [5]. By specializing to the case of Hamiltonian vector fields, we obtain an interesting and somewhat surprising result for Hamiltonians of low regularity, as well as a reason for including this article in these proceedings.

Abstract:To a transitive pseudo-Anosov flow $\varphi$ on a $3$-manifold $M$ and a representation $\rho$ of $\pi_1(M)$, we associate a zeta function $\zeta_{\varphi,\rho}(s)$ defined for $\Re s \gg 1$, generalizing the Anosov case. For a class of ``smooth pseudo-Anosov flows'', we prove that $\zeta_{\varphi,\rho}(s)$ has a meromorphic continuation to $\mathbb{C}$. We also prove a version of the Fried conjecture for smooth pseudo-Anosov flows which, under some conditions on $\rho$, relates $\zeta_{\varphi,\rho}(0)$ to the Reidemeister torsion of $M$. Finally we prove a topological analogue of the Dirichlet class number formula. In order to deal with singularities, we use $C^\infty$ versions of the approaches of Rugh and Sanchez--Morgado, based on Markov partitions.

Abstract:We prove that a $C^2$-generic Riemannian metric on a closed surface has either an elliptic closed geodesic or an Anosov geodesic flow. As a consequence, we prove the $C^2$-stability conjecture for Riemannian geodesic flows of closed surfaces: a $C^2$-structurally stable Riemannian geodesic flow of a closed surface is Anosov. In order to prove these statements, we establish a general result that may be of independent interest and provides sufficient conditions for a Reeb flow of a closed 3-manifold to be Anosov.
