Abstract:A case of acquired localized cutis laxa is reported. A 31-year-old male presented with a lesion on the right buttock for 2 years without any symptom. The histopathology shows reduction of elastic fibers. He was advised to have a plastic surgery.

Abstract:A rare congenital condition known as hydrometrocolpos (HMC) is characterized by the buildup of secretions in the vagina and uterus as a result of distal obstruction; this condition is frequently linked to imperforate hymen. This case report presents a prenatal diagnosis of isolated HMC in a 30-year-old primigravida, detected at 36 weeks gestation. Initial ultrasound revealed a large cystic mass, confirmed by fetal magnetic resonance imaging to be HMC. Postnatal examination of the new born confirmed imperforate hymen and HMC, which was effectively treated with hymenotomy, resulting in early resolution. This case underscores the importance of prenatal imaging in the early identification and management of HMC to prevent potential complications.

Abstract:Chromosome 1p36 deletion is the most common subtelomeric deletion syndrome characterized by variable features including unique facial appearance, intellectual disability, developmental delay, cardiac defects, seizures and hypotonia. Here, we report a patient with developmental delay, dilated cardiomyopathy, seizures, hirsutism and cutis laxa who was diagnosed with 1p36 deletion syndrome by chromosome microarray analysis. This patient is the first reported case of 1p36 deletion syndrome associated with cutis laxa and our results suggest that the 1p36 region contains one or more genes relevant to cutis laxa. This case also indicates the importance of considering chromosome abnormalities (microdeletion/microduplication syndromes) in patients presenting skin disorders combined with unexplained developmental delay, intellectual disability or multiple congenital abnormalities.

Paternal uniparental disomy 14: introducing the "coat-hanger" sign

Abstract:Paternal uniparental disomy for chromosome 14 (patUPD14) is a rare condition, this being the eighth report. A male infant, born prematurely, was noted to have extremely lax skin and bilateral inguinal hernias. Skin biopsy confirmed the clinical diagnosis of congenital cutis laxa, but this did not explain the limb abnormalities. Radiographic findings (particularly the "coat-hanger" configuration of the ribs on the chest radiograph), suggested a diagnosis of patUPD14, which was confirmed following DNA analysis. The patient died after prolonged respiratory failure. This combination of patUPD14 and congenital cutis laxa has not previously been described. Radiology can play a pivotal role in guiding the geneticist's choice of investigation.
