Abstract:In this paper, we study the semilinear wave equations with the inverse-square potential. By transferring the original equation to a "fractional dimensional" wave equation and analyzing the properties of its fundamental solution, we establish a long-time existence result, for sufficiently small, spherically symmetric initial data. Together with the previously known blow-up result, we determine the critical exponent which divides the global existence and finite time blow-up. Moreover, the sharp lower bounds of the lifespan are obtained, except for certain borderline case. In addition, our technology allows us to handle an extreme case for the potential, which has hardly been discussed in literature.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the linear and nonlinear Schrödinger equations with a time-decaying harmonic oscillator and inverse-square potential. This model retains a form of scale invariance, and utilizing this property, we demonstrate the asymptotic completeness of wave operators and Strichartz estimates for linear propagators.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Strichartz-type estimates of the solution for the linear wave equation with inverse square potential. Assuming the initial data possesses additional angular regularity, especially the radial initial data, the range of admissible pairs is improved. As an application, we show the global well-posedness of the semi-linear wave equation with inverse-square potential $\partial_t^2 u-\Delta u+\frac{a}{|x|^2}u=\pm|u|^{p-1}u$ for power $p$ being in some regime when the initial data are radial. This result extends the well-posedness result in Planchon, Stalker, and Tahvildar-Zadeh.

Abstract:We prove the dispersive and Strichartz estimates for solutions to the wave equation with a class of many-electric potentials in spatial dimension three. To obtain the desired dispersive estimate, based on the spectral properties of the Schrödinger operator involved, we subsequently prove the dispersive estimate for the corresponding Schrödinger semigroup, obtain a Gaussian type upper bound, establish Bernstein type inequalities, and finally pass to the Müller-Seeger's subordination formula. The desired Strichartz estimates follow by the established dispersive estimate and the standard argument of Keel-Tao.

Abstract:We consider the Klein--Gordon equation associated with the Laplace--Beltrami operator $\Delta$ on real hyperbolic spaces of dimension $n\!\ge\!2$; as $\Delta$ has a spectral gap, the wave equation is a particular case of our study. After a careful kernel analysis, we obtain dispersive and Strichartz estimates for a large family of admissible couples. As an application, we prove global well--posedness results for the corresponding semilinear equation with low regularity data.

Direct and Inverse scattering in a three-dimensional planar waveguide

Abstract:In this paper, we study the direct and inverse scattering of the Schr\"odinger equation in a three-dimensional planar waveguide. For the direct problem, we derive a resonance-free region and resolvent estimates for the resolvent of the Schr\"odinger operator in such a geometry. Based on the analysis of the resolvent, several inverse problems are investigated. First, given the potential function, we prove the uniqueness of the inverse source problem with multi-frequency data. We also develop a Fourier-based method to reconstruct the source function. The capability of this method is numerically illustrated by examples. Second, the uniqueness and increased stability of an inverse potential problem from data generated by incident waves are achieved in the absence of the source function. To derive the stability estimate, we use an argument of quantitative analytic continuation in complex theory. Third, we prove the uniqueness of simultaneously determining the source and potential by active boundary data generated by incident waves. In these inverse problems, we only use the limited lateral Dirichlet boundary data at multiple wavenumbers within a finite interval.

Abstract:For an exponentially position-dependent mass, we obtain the exact solutions of the three-dimensional Schrödinger equation by using coordinate transformation method for the reference problems with Coulomb potential, Kratzer potential, and spherically square potential well of infinite depth, respectively. The explicit expressions for the energy eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions of the three systems are presented.

Abstract:The VST (VLT Survey Telescope) is a 2.6 m class Alt-Az telescope to be installed at Mount Paranal in the Atacama desert, Chile, in the European Southern Observatory (ESO) site. The VST is a wide-field imaging facility planned to supply databases for the ESO Very Large Telescope (VLT) science and carry out stand-alone observations in the UV to I spectral range. This paper will focus on the distributed control system of active optics based on CAN bus and PIC microcontrollers. Both axial and radial pads of the primary mirror will be equipped by astatic lever supports controlled by microcontroller units. The same CAN bus + microcontroller boards approach will be used for the temperature acquisition modules.

Abstract:We consider an inverse problem of recovering a potential associated to a semi-linear wave equation with a quadratic nonlinearity in $1 + 1$ dimensions. We develop a numerical scheme to determine the potential from a noisy Dirichlet-to-Neumann map on the lateral boundary. The scheme is based on the recent higher order linearization method [20]. We also present an approach to numerically estimating two-dimensional derivatives of noisy data via Tikhonov regularization. The methods are tested using synthetic noisy measurements of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. Various examples of reconstructions of the potential functions are given.

Abstract:This work studies an inhomogeneous generalized Hartree equation with inverse square potential. The purpose is to prove the existence and strong instability of inter-critical standing waves. This means that there are infinitely many data near to the ground state, such that the associated solution blows-up in finite time. The proof combines a variational analysis with the standard variance identity. The challenge is to deal with three difficulties: the singular potential |x|−2, an inhomogeneous term |x|−λ, and a non-local source term.

Abstract:In this work we consider the energy subcritical 3D wave equation $\partial_t^2 u - \Delta u = \pm |u|^{p-1} u$ and discuss its (weakly) non-radiative solutions, i.e. the solutions defined in an exterior region $\{(x,t): |x|>|t|+R\}$ with $R\geq 0$ satisfying \[ \lim_{t\rightarrow \pm\infty} \int_{|x|>|t|+R} \left(|\nabla u(x,t)|^2 + |u_t(x,t)|^2\right) dx = 0. \] It has been known that any radial weakly non-radiative solution to the linear wave equation is a multiple of $1/|x|$. In addition, any radial weakly non-radiative solutions $u$ to the energy critical wave equation must possess a similar asymptotic behaviour, i.e. $u(x,t)\simeq C/|x|$ when $|x|$ is large. In this work we give examples to show that radial weakly non-radiative solutions to energy subcritical equation ($3<p<5$) may possess a much different asymptotic behaviour. However, a radial weakly non-radiative solution $u$ with initial data in the critical Sobolev space $\dot{H}^{s_p}\times \dot{H}^{s_p-1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ must coincide with a $C^2$ solution $W$ to the elliptic equation $-\Delta W = -|W|^{p-1} W$ so that $u(x,t) \equiv W(x) \simeq C/|x|$ when $|x|$ is large.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, the rogue wave solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional Myrzakulov–Lakshmanan (ML)-IV equation, which is described by five component nonlinear evolution equations, are studied on a periodic background. By using the Jacobian elliptic function expansion method, the Darboux transformation (DT) method and the nonlinearization of the Lax pair, two kinds of rogue wave solutions which are expressed by Jacobian elliptic functions dn and cn, are obtained. The relationship between these five kinds of potential is summarized systematically. Firstly, the periodic rogue wave solution of one potential is obtained, and then the periodic rogue wave solutions of the other four potentials are obtained directly. The solutions we find present the dynamic phenomena of higher-order nonlinear wave equations.

Abstract:We construct rogue wave solutions of an extended (3 + 1)‐dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the Jacobian elliptic function background. The modulational stability of the plane wave background is analyzed. We derive the periodic wave solutions and non‐periodic wave solutions of the Lax spectral problem. Making use of the non‐periodic solutions, we construct rogue waves on the cnoidal background via one‐ and two‐fold Darboux transformation. By using one‐fold Darboux transformation, rogue waves on the dnoidal background are also proposed.
