Abstract:As a powerful tool for medical diagnosis and bioanalysis, conventional optical spectrometers are generally expensive, bulky and always require an accompanying data processing device. In this work, we developed a novel smartphone-based CD-spectrometer (SCDS) for high sensitive and ultra-portable colorimetric analysis, with the advantage of cost-effective and simplicity. The distance between the light source and slit, the structure of SCDS and the parameters of camera in the smartphone were all optimized to ensure the best analytical performance. Besides, the SCDS employed HSV color model and utilized the overall intensity calculated by summing V-value of adjacent position for the absorbance measurement. In this way the errors caused by the low resolution of CD-grating can effectively be eliminated to promote the sensitivity of the SCDS. The performance of the SCDS was first validated for colorimetric detection of BSA with a detection limit of 0.0073 mg/mL, which is superior compared to that of the microtiter plate reader (MTPR). Moreover, by combining with 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine-manganese dioxide (TMB-MnO2) nanosheets reaction, a high sensitive and specific system for ascorbic acid detection was established. The SCDS gives a detection range from 0.6250 mu M to 40 mu M with a detection limit of 0.4946 mu M for AA detection. Compared to other studies, the SCDS features wide detection range and very low detection limit with low cost instrument. Therefore, the SCDS will be an ideal and promising colorimetric system for point-of-care (POC) application in food security, disease diagnosis and environmental monitoring. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:Ascorbic acid, dopamine, and uric acid are important electroactive biomolecules for health monitoring and they coexist in serum or urine. Their quantitative determination by electrochemistry could provide the accurate reference for diseases diagnosis and treatment. However, the traditional electrochemical workstations are too large for on-field inspection. Hence, the design of handheld electrochemical system for the detection of biomolecules is significant for point-of-care testing (POCT). In this paper, a smartphone-based integrated voltammetry system using modified electrode was developed for simultaneous detection of biomolecules. The system contained a disposable sensor, a coin-size detector, and a smartphone equipped with application program. Screen-printed electrodes were used as sensors for the detection, on which reduced graphene oxide and gold nanoparticles were electrochemically deposited by the system. The detector was used with voltammetric methods, in which excitation voltage was applied on the sensors and subsequent current responses were detected. The smartphone is the core component to communicate with the detector, calculate data, and plot voltammograms in real-time. Then, the system was applied to detect standard solutions of the biomolecules and their mixtures as examples. The results showed that the peak currents of each substance increased with higher concentration and the method allowed the discrimination of the different potentials of the studied species. Finally, the practical applications of the system were tested through detections of the biomolecules in artificial urine. The results exhibited that the system could be used to detect electrochemical activity of biomolecules with linear, high sensitivity, and specific responses in point-of-care testing.

Abstract:Proteins play crucial roles in biological activities and show close relationship with human diseases as biomarkers. Thus, rapid, sensitive, selective, and portable detection of protein is in high demand for point-of-care (POC) testing. Here, a smartphone-controlled biosensor system is developed with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) to detect proteins for POC testing. The system was constituted by miniaturized biosensor, hand-held EIS detector, and smartphone, collectively. Printed carbon electrodes and interdigital gold electrodes, were modified with bio-components and integrated into the system as biosensors for protein detection. Then, detections of bull serum albumin (BSA) and thrombin demonstrated analytical performances of the system for quantification of the protein binding and enzyme activities by special antibodies and peptides immobilized on the electrodes. By the impedance measurement, the system could detect BSA and thrombin as low as 1.78 mu g/ml and 2.97 ng/ml, respectively. The results suggested that the smartphone-controlled biosensor system provided a portable and cost-effective platform that allowed integration of diverse biosensor formats for different kinds of protein quantifications for POC testing. Abstract:Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a critical biomarker associated with various physiological and pathological processes, making its detection essential for disease diagnosis and biomedical research. In this study, we developed a novel, simple, and portable visual quantification method for ALP activity in cells using an efficient Cu 0.9 Zn 0.1 S nanomaterial with peroxidase-like properties, integrated into a smartphone-based platform for enhanced usability. The Cu 0.9 Zn 0.1 S nanomaterial catalyzes the breakdown of H2O2, generating ·OH radicals that oxidize the colorless substrate TMB into blue oxTMB, which is subsequently reduced back to TMB by ascorbic acid (AA). We employed an indirect colorimetric approach for ALP detection, leveraging ALP's ability to catalyze the dephosphorylation of L -ascorbic acid-2-phosphate (AAP) to produce AA. This method enabled highly sensitive and precise quantification of ALP with a detection limit of 0.47 mU/L and a linear range from 0.001 to 100 U/L. The established smartphone platform not only facilitated real-time data processing but also transformed the detection system into a portable and accessible laboratory. The method was successfully applied to detect ALP in various cancer cell lines, with the highest levels found in HepG2 cells. Moreover, the results were consistent with those obtained using traditional kit-based methods, highlighting the accuracy and reliability of our approach. The system was also applied to evaluate ALP inhibitors, demonstrating its versatility in biomedical applications. This innovative, cost-effective, and highly sensitive colorimetric sensing strategy offers immense potential for clinical diagnostics, cancer research, and inhibitor screening, particularly in on-site, resource-limited, or emergency scenarios.

Abstract:Ascorbic acid (AA) plays an important role in many physiological and biochemical processes. Adequate quantification of AA is required for controlling the intake of AA for health management. In this study, a portable probe was fabricated based on the assembled FePO4@GO nanozyme by homogeneous precipitation. FePO4@GO exhibits excellent peroxidase (POD) activity. As an efficient free radical scavenger, ascorbic acid scavenges 1O2 free radicals produced by hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by peroxidase enzymes and then inhibits the color reaction of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). A good linear relationship between the color of the reaction system and the concentration of AA in the range of 2.5–75 μM was presented, and the detection limit is 1.25 μM. Furthermore, a visual colorimetric detection platform was constructed using a smartphone. The AA content is accurately reflected by intelligent recognition of color changes in the reaction system. It provides an alternative approach for portable and visual rapid detection of Vitamin C (VC) in medicine. Meanwhile, it also provides a reference for the assembly of an intelligent detection platform based on nanozymes.

Abstract:A ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform with smartphone was designed for highly sensitive detection of glutathione (GSH), ascorbic acid (AA), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity by modulation the inner filter effect (IFE) between persistent luminescent nanoparticles (PLNPs) and 2, 3-diaminophenazine (DAP). As an oxidase-mimetic nanomaterial, MnO2 nanosheets (MnO2 NS) can oxidize o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to DAP, which exhibited a yellow fluorescence emission signal at 558 nm, whereas the fluorescence of PLNPs at 475 nm was quenched through IFE. The presence of GSH and AA reduced MnO2 NS to Mn2+, which inhibited the oxidation of OPD, and effectively preserved the blue fluorescence of PLNPs at 475 nm. Further, ALP can catalytically hydrolyze L-ascorbic acid 2-phosphate trisodium salt (AAP) to yield AA. Therefore, a simple, high sensitivity and reproducibility, and good selectivity ratiometric fluorescence sensing platform was fabricated to detect GSH, AA and ALP activity by measuring the ratio of the fluorescence intensity of DAP and PLNPs. The linear range for GSH, AA and ALP activity were 1-100 μM, and 1 to 5 mU/mL, and the limit of detection were 0.2 μM, 0.33 μM and 0.3 mU/mL, respectively. Finally, the proposed sensor was utilized in spiked human serum and urine samples detection with satisfactory recoveries. Moreover, the red-green-blue (RGB) intensities of a color image were acquired via scanning measurement analysis with the help of the color-scanning application on smartphones and portable UV lamps, enabling real-time and in-situ detection of ALP activity, GSH, and AA.

Abstract:A smartphone-based analysis system is favored for point-of-care testing applications. The present work proposes a novel micro-spectroscopy/imaging system comprising a portable spectrometer as an optical sensor and a compact homemade microscope to acquire the image and spectra of micron-scale regions. Protein concentration quantification based on the bicinchoninic acid method was demonstrated with the proposed micro-spectroscopy/imaging system to analyse the spectrometer signals. Morphologies of onion endothelial and human breast cancer cells, used as biological sample models, were characterized to demonstrate the microscopic imaging capacity of the device. The ability to simultaneously obtain morphological and spectral information using the proposed portable device was demonstrated by examining the 10 mu m sub-pixels of a smartphone screen. These results highlight the potential for adopting a smartphone-based micro-spectroscopy/imaging system for point-of-care testing.

Abstract:To provide the basis for clinical diagnosis in an emergency case, a portable smartphone device-based multi-signal sensing system for on-site determination of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is introduced. In this system, cobalt hydroxide (CoOOH) nanoflakes can oxidize O-phenylenediamine (OPD) to produce 2,3-diaminophenazine (OxOPD), resulting in a strong fluorescence at 565 nm and an absorbance at 420 nm, respectively. The ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AAP) can be hydrolyzed by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) to yield ascorbic acid (AA). Then, AA reduces the CoOOH nanoflakes to produce Co2+, and AA is oxidized to form dehydroascorbic acid (DHAA), thereby inhibiting the formation of OxOPD. The reaction product DHAA further combines with OPD to yield 3-(1,2-dihydroxyethyl)furo[3,4-b]quinoxalin-1(3H)-one (DFQ) accompanied by a strong fluorescence at 430 nm. Based on this, the fluorometric assay for ALP has a wide linear range from 0.8 to 190 U/L with a low detection limit of 0.16 U/L, and the colorimetric assay from 3 to 130 U/L with a detection limit of 1.94 U/L. Moreover, a portable smartphone sensing platform integrated with fluorescent and colorimetric signals was established for rapid determination of ALP without spectrometers. Recoveries of 97-104% for spiked samples and relative standard deviations (RSD) of less than 2% (n = 3) confirmed the feasibility of the developed platform in complicated samples, opening up new horizons for on-site evaluation in the biomedical field.

Abstract:Bionic electronic eye (Bionic e-Eye), a developed smartphone-based colorimetric reader system, consists of smartphone or pad (iPhone 4s or iPad 3) as detection instrument and portable accessory as illumination provider integrating with a wide-angle lens, a piece of lowest-power electro luminescent and a custom-made dark hood. A 96-well microtiter plate (MTP) was positioned on the electro luminescent and Bionic e-Eye captures the detection images by the back camera of smartphone. Being similar to human visual system, the hue, saturation and value (HSV, also called hex cone model) color model was employed in image processing algorithm of Bionic e-Eye. Optimized system dimension was determined by the system steadiness experiment of different photograph distances. Moreover, the commercially available bicinchoninic acid (BCA) protein assay and cell counting kit (CCK8) assay were carried out to evaluate this Bionic e-Eye. Analytical performance of Bionic e-Eye had the better precision, higher sensitivity than microtiter plate reader (MTPR) and previous smartphone-based colorimetric reader for both two assays. Also, Bionic e-Eye using optical image detection had simultaneous and synchronous working mode, while MPTR using machine moving detection had asynchronous working mode in high throughput detection. Therefore, Bionic e-Eye will be an ideal point-of-care (POC) colorimetric detection device in the field of clinical application, industrial quality control, environment monitoring, and food assessment.
A Programmable Microfluidic Paper-Based Analytical Device for Simultaneous Colorimetric and Photothermal Visual Sensing of Multiple Enzyme Activities

Abstract:New strategies for the simultaneous and portable detection of multiple enzyme activities are highly desirable for clinical diagnosis and home care. However, the methods developed thus far generally suffer from high costs, cumbersome procedures, and heavy reliance on large-scale instruments. To satisfy the actual requirements of rapid, accurate, and on-site detection of multiple enzyme activities, we report herein a smartphone-assisted programmable microfluidic paper-based analytical device (μPAD) that utilizes colorimetric and photothermal signals for simultaneous, accurate, and visual quantitative detection of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). Specifically, the operation of this μPAD sensing platform is based on two sequential steps. Cobalt-doped mesoporous cerium oxide (Co-m-CeO2) with remarkable peroxidase-like activities under neutral conditions first catalytically decomposes H2O2 for effectively converting colorless 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into blue oxidized TMB (oxTMB). The subsequent addition of ALP or BChE to their respective substrates produces a reducing substance that can somewhat inhibit the oxTMB transformation for compromised colorimetric and photothermal signals of oxTMB. Notably, these two-step bioenzyme-nanozyme cascade reactions strongly support the straightforward and excellent processability of this platform, which exhibit lower detection limits for ALP and BChE with a detection limit for BChE an order of magnitude lower than those of the other reported paper-based detection methods. The practicability and efficiency of this platform are further demonstrated through the analysis of clinical serum samples. This innovative platform exhibits great potential as a facile yet robust approach for simultaneous, accurate, and on-site visual detection of multiple enzyme activities in authentic samples.
Sensitive acid phosphatase assay based on light-activated specific oxidase mimic activity

Abstract:Acid phosphatase (ACP) is a key marker in the diagnosis of many diseases. However, exploiting a simple and sensitive sensor for the real-time quantitative analysis of ACP is still challenging. Herein, we attempted to develop a sensitive colorimetric sensing strategy for the detection of ACP based on light-activated oxidase mimic property of carbon dots (CDs). The synthesized CDs were proved to be capable of intrinsic light-activated oxidase mimic activity, which could generate reactive oxygen species to oxidize chromogenic substrate under ultraviolet light stimulation. Interestingly, this light-activated oxidase mimic behavior would be effectively suppressed by the antioxidant ascorbic acid (AA), a product from the hydrolysis of 2-phospho-L-ascorbic acid trisodium (AAP) mediated by ACP. Based on the above property, a facile and sensitive colorimetric sensing method for ACP was developed. Under the optimal conditions, the linear range for ACP 0.1-5.5 U/L, and the detection limit was 0.056 U/L. Compared with conventional nanozyme based ACP assay systems, the catalytic activity of light-activated nanozyme could be conveniently regulated by switching the light on and off, which made it easier to precisely control the extent of the reaction and ensured the accuracy of the assay. In addition, the proposed sensing system would be readout directly by the naked eye or smartphone-based RGB analysis system, and have been successfully applied to analyze diluted in diluted fetal bovine serum and urine samples spiked with ACP. All these results indicated that this approach holds good promise for future applications in clinical analysis and point-of-care (POC) biosensor platforms.
A Smartphone Readable Colorimetric Sensing Platform for Rapid Multiple Protein Detection.

Abstract:A simple, visible and smartphone readable strategy has been proposed for the sensitive detection and discrimination of multiple proteins. By employing five different concentrations of NaCl salt, AuNP exhibited different aggregation behavior for different proteins because of differential ion strength, leading to diverse color changes. The sensing system could not only discriminate twelve proteins at the concentration of 50 nM in aqueous solution, but it could also discriminate these proteins at 200 nM in the presence of human urine with an accuracy of 100%. More importantly, based on the theory of chromatics, we could directly read out the color value using a smartphone to distinguish twelve proteins, pure Lys and HSA at various concentrations, and the mixture of these two proteins in the presence of human urine with no confusion after a hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA). The inexpensive and convenient colorimetric sensor array using the ubiquitous smartphone for signal readout has great potential for the point-of-care diagnosis without additional devices.

Abstract:It is significant to develop low-cost, sensitive, and portable sensing platform for point-of-care testing of ascorbic acid (AA) in food quality evaluation. Herein, a smart point-of-care (SPOC) sensor, consisting of fluorescent paper chip, 3D printed-accessories and smartphone, was developed for ultrasensitive and visual quantitative detection of AA. Fluorescent paper chip was made through printing silicon doped carbon dots (SiCDs)-Fe3+ as "ink" onto filter paper, in which SiCDs emitting strong fluorescence signal quenched by Fe3+, and then recovered by AA owing to releasing -NH2/-OH and introducing defects on SiCDs. The smartphone with an application named "AA-Tester" was established to analyze AA and exhibited high sensitivity with low detection limits of 18.12 nmol/L. HPLC method was used to verify the SPOC sensor and obtained satisfactory accuracy with relative standard deviations of 0.79-2.31 %. The portable sensing platform integrated fluorescence sensor with smartphone-device will be favorable for ultrasensitive and on-the-spot detection of AA.

Abstract:On-site multiplex enzyme detection is crucial for diagnosis, therapeutics and prognostic. To date, it is still a daunting challenge to develop portable, low-cost, and efficient multi-enzyme detection methods. Herein, a novel sample-in-result-out platform integrating ratiometric fluorescent assays with 3D origami microfluidic paper-based device (μPAD) was developed for simultaneous visual point-of-care testing (POCT) of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). Cascade catalytic reaction with the same two fluorescent signal indicators was rationally designed to ratiometric fluorescent detection of ALP and BChE: substrate of ALP (pyrophosphate) and product of BChE (thiocholine) can strongly complex with Cu2+, Cu2+ oxidizes o-phenylenediamine to fluorescent 2,3-diaminophenazine (oxOPD) (emission, 565 nm), oxOPD quenches the fluorescence of carbon dots (CDs, emission at 445 nm) via inner filter effect, thus oxOPD/CDs values are relevant to ALP and BChE activities. Then 3D origami μPAD composing of four layers and two parallel channels was fabricated and simply prepared by one-step plotting with black oil-based marker and specific metal molds. After simple folding and unfolding neighboring layers to sequentially initiate reactions of pre-loaded reagents, fluorescent images on the detection zone can be captured by smartphone and analyzed by red-green-blue software for quantitative analysis. Under optimal conditions, the proposed platform was successfully performed to detect ALP and BChE with activity difference at 3 orders of magnitude in human serum samples without any pretreatment procedures. Excellent selectivity, good precision, favorable linear range, and high accuracy were exhibited. Importantly, the platform opens a promising horizon for high-throughput POCT of multiplex biomarkers.

Abstract:A switchable ratiometric fluorescent smartphone-assisted sensing platform based on nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) and Rhodamine B was fabricated for the determination of the ascorbic acid (AA) content in fruits by quenching the fluorescence of N-CDs with Hg2+ (turn-off) and recovering with AA (turn-on). The blue-emission N-CDs was synthesized by liquid dielectric barrier discharge microplasma with an average size of 3.65 nm and an absolute quantum yield of 18 % (excited at 345 nm). In addition, the fluorescence color was converted to RGB values, enabling visual and quantitative determination of AA. Under optimal parameters, the linear ranges for detecting AA were found to be 3-170 μM and 5-170 μM for fluorescence spectrometer and smartphone sensing platform. The detection limits were 0.98 μM and 2.90 μM, respectively. Furthermore, the satisfactory recoveries in fruits were obtained by RF probe and smartphone platform. This smartphone-assisted platform will facilitate sensitive and visual determination for AA.

Abstract:Visual detection of histone acetylation in cells is highly desirable for medical diagnostics, particularly in cancer. Currently, a single substrate-indicated multi-mode visual platform has been developed for detecting the activity of acetyltransferase (KAT Tip60) in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of esophageal cancer. o-Phenylenediamine (OPD) serves as a single indicator in our constructed multi-mode analytical method, where the introduction of Cu(II) stimulates a change in fluorescent/UV-vis signals and colors. However, coenzyme A (CoA), a byproduct of the acetylation process, effectively prevents the interaction between Cu(II) and OPD, and this competitive reaction is aptly associated with the KAT Tip60-domonicated acetylation process. Good linear relationships are observed between the optical signals in the multi-mode method and the logarithms of the Tip60 concentration, with detection limits of 0.0045 ng/mL (fluorescence) and 0.058 ng/mL (UV-vis), respectively, calculated as 3σ/slope. To meet the needs of smart/precision medicine, a smartphone-based visualization approach tailored to the red-green-blue (RGB) color space of cameras is developed via Cu(II)-OPD redox catalysis. This approach is successfully employed for the analysis of Tip60-indicated acetylation in CTCs of esophageal cancer. This study establishes an important foundation for advancing RGB color-based smartphone modes for actual analyses, and integrating another catalytic unit based on the single OPD substrate presents a viable strategy for analyzing other biomarkers in cancer-targeted clinical applications.

Abstract:The rapid progress in point-of-care testing (POCT) has become a promising decentralized patient-centered approach for the control of infectious diseases, especially in resource-limited settings. POCT devices should be inexpensive, rapid, simple operation and preferably require no power supply. Here, we developed a simple bacterial sensing platform that can be operated by a smartphone for bacteria identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) based on using a polydiacetylene (PDA) arrayed membrane chip. Each PDA array produced a unique color ‘fingerprint’ pattern for each bacteria based on different modes of action of toxins from bacteria on biomimetic lipid bilayers within PDA-lipid assemblies. We show that the PDA-based device can detect viable cells of bacteria as low as 104 CFU/mL within 1.5 h compared with several days of conventional bacterial identification, with the aid of a smartphone app. The device can also be used for an antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) for at least two broad-spectrum antimicrobials within 4 h and provide identification of antimicrobial susceptibility and resistance, enabling the selection of appropriate therapies. This PDA-based sensing platform provides an alternative way for bacterial detection and could be used as a portable and inexpensive POCT device for the rapid detection of bacterial infection in limited-resource settings.
A colorimetric smartphone-based sensor for on-site AA detection in tropical fruits using Fe-P/NC single-atom nanoenzyme

Abstract:Ascorbic acid is one of the important vitamins to maintain human life activities and plays an irreplaceable role in regulating human redox metabolism. Fresh fruit can provide plenty of AA to maintain human metabolic balance. Thus, it is great significant to develop a rapid and convenient method for detection of AA to evaluate the freshness and nutritional quality of fruits. In this work, Fe single-atom nanoenzyme (Fe-SAN) based colorimetric sensor assisted with smartphone was designed for rapid and on-site AA detection in tropical fruits. Firstly, Fe-SAN with high oxidase-mimicking activity was synthesized by using green tea leaves as sources of carbon and nitrogen and NaH2PO2 as P source to obtain Fe-P/NC SAN, in which P was used to reconstruct the distribution of electronic to enhance the oxidase-mimicking activity of Fe-SAN. Besides, the as-synthesized Fe-P/NC SAN with remarkable oxidase-like activities could oxidize 3,3́,5,5́-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue colored oxidized TMB. AA could inhibit the oxidation of TMB, leading to blue fading. Based on the above principle, colorimetric sensor integrated with smartphone RGB mode was fabricated and exhibited a good linear detection range (0.5-100 μM) and low detection limit of 0.315 μM for AA detection under optimal conditions. More importantly, the developed sensor could rapidly and accurately detect AA in real sample, such as pineapple, wax apple and mango. Therefore, this research provides a new cost-effective method for the efficient and exact detection of AA in tropical fruit, which has a broad application prospect.

Abstract:Today, easy availability and efficient detection assays in low-resource settings are mandatory. Therefore, a smartphone-assisted paper-based detection strategy using eosin Y (EY)-embed ZIF-8 nanocomposite for phosphate (Pi), neutral red (NR) and heparin (HP) on site testing was fabricated. After adding the targets in a specific order, the prepared strips produced brilliant color transitions (astonishing colors, ranging from pistachio to bright yellow for Pi, from bright yellow to jacinth for NR and from jacinth to light orange for HP). These variation on tonality can be evaluated by the smartphone-based readout device (Color Assist App) through the ratio change of B/(R + G + B), which exhibits superior performance of on-site detection in wastewater, including high sensitivity (LOD is 0.015, 0.031 and 0.014 mM for Pi, NR and HP, respectively), ultra-fast response time and excellent selectivity. This strips and smartphone dual-mode monitoring strategy may offer a convenient idea to identify Pi, NR and HP, with great prospects for environmental wastewater applications. Additionally, the probe was enabled for bioimaging of Pi, NR and HP in living cells. Finally, the related anti-counterfeiting fluorescent ink of probe was proposed on schedule.

Abstract:A straightforward and highly sensitive ratiometric fluorescence sensor comprising blue emissive carbon dots, silver nanoprisms, and o-phenylenediamine (B-CDs-Ag NPRs-OPD) was developed for the detection of H 2 O 2 and glucose. Ag NPRs were etched into Ag + ions upon exposure to H 2 O 2 , which caused non-fluorescent OPD to be oxidized and produce 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP), resulting in intense yellow fluorescence emission at 555 nm. DAP can quench the B-CDs based on inner filter effect (IFE), leading to a decrease in their fluorescence intensity at 435 nm. Because glucose oxidase may catalyze the oxidation of glucose to produce H 2 O 2 , this approach can also be used to detect glucose. The unique triangular structure leads to the easy etching of the edge and tip of Ag NPRs by H 2 O 2 into Ag + ions, allowing for the high sensitivity of detection of H 2 O 2 and glucose with limit of detection (LOD) of 0.12 μM and 0.6 μM, respectively. Furthermore, with the increase of the concentrations of H 2 O 2 and glucose, a visible color shift from blue to yellow-green occurs, which can be detected using a smartphone's color recognition application that captures the RGB channel values of the image. Real-time and on-spot detection of H 2 O 2 and glucose were achieved based on smartphone sensing platform, presenting vast potential for applications in various fields.
