Abstract:A globally accurate full-dimensional potential energy surface (PES) for the OH + CH4 → H2O + CH3 reaction is developed using the permutation invariant polynomial-neural network approach based on ∼135 000 points at the level of correlated coupled cluster singles, doubles, and perturbative triples level with the augmented correlation consistent polarized valence triple-zeta basis set. The total root mean square fitting error is only 3.9 meV or 0.09 kcal/mol. This PES is shown to reproduce energies, geometries, and harmonic frequencies of stationary points along the reaction path. Kinetic and dynamical calculations on the PES indicated a good agreement with the available experimental data.

Abstract:We report here a new global and full dimensional potential energy surface (PES) for the F + CH4 reaction. This PES was constructed by using neural networks (NN) fitting to about 99 000 ab initio energies computed at the UCCSD(T)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory, and the correction terms considering the influence of a larger basis set as well as spin-orbit couplings were further implemented with a hierarchial scheme. This PES, covering both the abstraction and substitution channels, has an overall fitting error of 8.24 meV in total, and 4.87 meV for energies within 2.5 eV using a segmented NN fitting method, and is more accurate than the previous PESs.
Accurate Global Potential Energy Surfaces For The H + Ch3oh Reaction By Neural Network Fitting With Permutation Invariance

Abstract:The H + CH3OH reaction, which plays an important role in combustion and the interstellar medium, presents a prototypical system with multi channels and tight transition states. However, no globally reliable potential energy surface (PES) has been available to date. Here we develop global analytical PESs for this system using the permutation-invariant polynomial neural network (PIP-NN) and the high-dimensional neural network (HD-NN) methods based on a large number of data points calculated at the level of the explicitly correlated unrestricted coupled cluster single, double, and perturbative triple level with the augmented correlation corrected valence triple-zeta basis set (UCCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ). We demonstrate that both machine learning PESs are able to accurately describe all dynamically relevant reaction channels. At a collision energy of 20 kcal/mol, quasi-classical trajectory calculations reveal that the dominant channel is the hydrogen abstraction from the methyl site, yielding H-2 + CH2OH. The reaction of this major channel takes place mainly via the direct rebound mechanism. Both the vibrational and rotational states of the H-2 product are relatively cold, and large portions of the available energy are converted into the product translational motion.

Abstract:This work is an extensive investigation of the F + CH3NH2 reaction dynamics using a newly-developed potential energy surface (PES). The full-dimensional spin–orbit (SO) corrected (MRCI+Q/aug-cc-pwCVDZ) PES is developed by the Robosurfer program package and the ManyHF method is used in order to fix the Hartree–Fock (HF) convergence issues in the entrance channel. On the surface, retrieved by the fitting of the iteratively extended set of the ManyHF-CCSD(T)-F12a/triple-zeta-quality and SO-corrected energy points, quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) simulations are run. By analyzing the opacity functions and integral cross sections (ICSs) of six reaction channels, the dynamics of the two most reactive hydrogen-abstraction reactions resulting in HF + CH2NH2/CH3NH products are selected for a thorough examination. Despite the statistically and thermodynamically expected results, the kinetically preferred amino hydrogen-abstraction is the dominant mechanism at low collision energies. The initial attack angle and scattering angle distributions are investigated as well. The post-reaction energy distributions show that the collision energy mostly converts into the translational energy of the products, while the reaction energy excites the vibration of the products. The computed vibrationally resolved rotational distributions and vibrational state distributions of the HF product are compared to experimental data, and the theory and experiment are found to be in good agreement.

Abstract:A global potential energy surface for the H2 + OH ↔ H2O + H reaction has been constructed using the neural networks method based on ∼17 000 ab initio energies calculated at UCCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ level of theory. Time-dependent wave packet calculations showed that the new potential energy surface is very well converged with respect to the number of ab initio data points, as well as to the fitting process. Various tests revealed that the new surface is considerably more smooth and accurate than the existing YZCL2 and XXZ surfaces, representing the best available potential energy surface for the benchmark four-atom system. Equally importantly, the number of ab initio energies required to obtain the well converged potential energy surface is rather limited, indicating the neural network fitting is a powerful method to construct accurate potential energy surfaces for polyatomic reactions.

Abstract:A global potential energy surface (PES) for the H+CH4↔H2+CH3 reaction has been constructed using the neural networks method based on 47783 high level ab initio geometry points. Extensive quasi-classical trajectories and quantum scattering calculations were carried out to check the convergence of the PES. This PES, fully converged with respect to the fitting procedure and the number of ab initio points, has a very small fitting error, and is much faster on evaluation than the modified Shepard interpolating PES, representing the best available PES for this benchmark polyatomic system.

Abstract:Global diabatic potential energy surfaces (PESs) of CH2+ are constructed using the neural network method with a specific function based on 18 213 ab initio points. The multi-reference configuration interaction method with the aug-cc-pVQZ basis set is adopted to perform the ab initio calculations. The topographical properties of the diabatic PESs are examined in detail. In general, the diabatic PESs provide an accurate quasi-diabatic representation. To validate the diabatic PESs, the dynamics studies of the C+(2P1/2, 3/2) + H2 (v0 = 0, j0 = 0) → H + CH+(X1Σ+) reaction are performed using the time-dependent wave packet method. The reaction probabilities, integral cross sections, differential cross sections, and rate constants are calculated and compared with the experimental and theoretical results. Non-adiabatic dynamics results are in good agreement with experimental data. In addition, the non-adiabatic effect in the C+(2P1/2, 3/2) + H2 reaction is significant due to the non-adiabatic results being obviously larger than adiabatic values. The reasonable non-adiabatic dynamics results indicate that present diabatic PESs can be recommended for any type of dynamics study.

Abstract:The collisions between Na atoms and H2 molecules are of great significance in the field of chemical reaction dynamics, but the corresponding dynamics results of ground-state reactions have not been reported experimentally or theoretically. Herein, a global and high-precision potential energy surface (PES) of NaH2 (12A′) is constructed by the neural network model based on 21,873 high-level ab initio points. On the newly constructed PES, the quantum dynamics calculations on the Na(2S) + H2(v0 = 0, j0 = 0) → NaH + H reaction are carried out using the time-dependent wave packet method to study the microscopic reaction mechanism at the state-to-state level. The calculated results show that the low-vibrational products are mainly formed by the dissociation of the triatomic complex; whereas, the direct reaction process dominates the generation of the products with high-vibrational states. The reaction generally follows the direct H-abstraction process, and there is also the short-lived complex-forming mechanism that occurs when the collision energy exceeds the reaction threshold slightly. The PES could be used to further study the stereodynamics effects of isotope substitution and rovibrational excitations on the title reaction, and the presented dynamics data would provide an important reference on the corresponding experimental research at a higher level.

Abstract:In order to study the dynamics of the reaction H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+), a new potential energy surface (PES) for the ground state of the NaH2 system is constructed based on 35 730 ab initio energy points. Using basis sets of quadruple zeta quality, multireference configuration interaction calculations with Davidson correction were carried out to obtain the ab initio energy points. The neural network method is used to fit the PES, and the root mean square error is very small (0.00639 eV). The bond lengths, dissociation energies, zero-point energies and spectroscopic constants of H2(X1Σg+) and NaH(X1Σ+) obtained on the new NaH2 PES are in good agreement with the experiment data. On the new PES, the reactant coordinate-based time-dependent wave packet method is applied to study the reaction dynamics of H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+), and the reaction probabilities, integral cross-sections (ICSs) and differential cross-sections (DCSs) are obtained. There is no threshold in the reaction due to the absence of an energy barrier on the minimum energy path. When the collision energy increases, the ICSs decrease from a high value at low collision energy. The DCS results show that the angular distribution of the product molecules tends to the forward direction. Compared with the LiH2 system, the NaH2 system has a larger mass and the PES has a larger well at the H-NaH configuration, which leads to a higher ICS value in the H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+) reaction. Because the H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+) reaction releases more energy, the product molecules can be excited to a higher vibrational state.

Abstract:For the symmetric reaction OH + H2O → H2O + OH, ∼48 000 data points are sampled and calculated at the level of the explicitly correlated unrestricted coupled cluster method with single, double, and perturbative triple excitations with the augmented correlation-consistent polarized triple zeta basis set (CCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ). The data set is then employed to fit the full dimensional accurate potential energy surface (PES) by using the permutation invariant polynomial-neural network (PIP-NN) method, resulting in a total root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.12 kcal mol-1. The quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) method is used to study its reaction dynamics. It has been found that the integral cross section (ICS) is increased gradually as a function of the collision energy ranging from 8 to 30 kcal mol-1 with a threshold around 8 kcal mol-1. At a collision energy of 20 kcal mol-1, detailed dynamics show that the OH product is a spectator and the differential cross section (DCS) is dominated by backward scattering with considerable contributions from sideway scattering, consistent with the direct rebound and stripping mechanisms.

Abstract:Chemical reactions between Be+ ions and H2 molecules have significance in the fields of ultracold chemistry and astrophysics, but the corresponding dynamics studies on the ground-state reaction have not been reported because of the lack of a global potential energy surface (PES). Herein, a globally accurate ground-state BeH2+ PES is constructed using the neural network model based on 18,657 ab initio points calculated by the multi-reference configuration interaction method with the aug-cc-PVQZ basis set. On the newly constructed PES, the state-to-state quantum dynamics calculations of the Be+(2S) + H2(v0 = 0; j0 = 0) and Be+(2S) + D2(v0 = 0; j0 = 0) reactions are performed using the time-dependent wave packet method. The calculated results suggest that the two reactions are dominated by the complex-forming mechanism and the direct abstraction process at relatively low and high collision energies, respectively, and the isotope substitution has little effect on the reaction dynamics characteristics. The new PES can be used to further study the reaction dynamics of the BeH2+ system, such as the effects of rovibrational excitations and alignment of reactant molecules, and the present dynamics data could provide an important reference for further experimental studies at a finer level.
Fundamental Invariant Neural Network (FI-NN) Potential Energy Surface for the OH + CH3OH Reaction with Analytical Forces

Abstract:The hydrogen abstraction reaction of OH + CH3OH plays a great role in combustion and atmospheric and interstellar chemistry and has been extensively studied theoretically and experimentally. Theoretically, the numerical gradients with respect to the Cartesian coordinates of atoms in molecular simulations on our recent potential energy surface (PES) for the title reaction trained using the permutationally invariant polynomial neural network (PIP-NN) approach hinder the extensive calculation because of the unaffordable computation cost. To address this issue, we in this work report a new full-dimensional accurate analytical PES for the title reaction using the fundamental invariant neural network (FI-NN) approach based on 140,192 points of the quality UCCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ. Besides, the spin-orbit (SO) corrections of OH in the entrance channel were determined at the level of complete active space self-consistent field with the AVTZ basis set. As a compromise between computational cost and efficiency, the Δ-machine learning approach was employed to construct the SO-corrected PES. Based on this new FI-NN PES with analytical forces, thermal rate coefficients and various dynamic properties, including the integral cross sections, the differential cross sections, and the product energy partitioning, were determined by running a total of 5.5 million trajectories. The use of analytical gradients of the FI-NN PES accelerated simulations and about 99% of computation cost was saved, compared to that for the PIP-NN PES with numerical gradients. Such a significant acceleration is achieved mainly by replacing PIPs with FIs.

Abstract:H2O and H-2 are ubiquitous in the universe and their collisions play a crucial role in astrophysical processes. The reaction between the two also provides a prototype for understanding dynamics through four-center transition states. In this work, we adopted a strategy of combing two ab initio methods, CCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ and MRCI-F12 + Q(rot)/AVTZ, to provide a balanced description for all regions of the configuration space, including one hydrogen exchange channel and two dissociation channels, namely H-2 + H2O, H + H + H2O, and H + OH + H-2. About 40 500 points were sampled to cover all dynamically relevant space, and the permutation invariant polynomial-neural network (PIP-NN) method was employed to develop a high-precision full-dimensional potential energy surface (PES), with a total fitting error of 0.055 kcal mol(-1). Using a quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) method, the reaction dynamics and mode specificity of the hydrogen exchange channel were studied on the PES. It has been found that the stretching mode of H-2, the bending, the symmetric stretching, the asymmetric stretching mode of H2O, and the translational mode can all promote reactivity. The strongest promotion effect comes from the H-H stretching mode. The Sudden Vector Projection (SVP) model was applied to predict mode specificity effects and rationalize the product energy partitioning. In both cases, the QCT and SVP results are generally consistent with each other. Furthermore, the hydrogen exchange channel was found to be dominated by sideways scattering.

Abstract:We report a permutationally invariant global potential energy surface (PES) for the H + CH4 system based on ∼63,000 data points calculated at a high ab initio level (UCCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ) using the recently proposed permutation invariant polynomial-neural network method. The small fitting error (5.1 meV) indicates a faithful representation of the ab initio points over a large configuration space. The rate coefficients calculated on the PES using tunneling corrected transition-state theory and quasi-classical trajectory are found to agree well with the available experimental and previous quantum dynamical results. The calculated total reaction probabilities (Jtot = 0) including the abstraction and exchange channels using the new potential by a reduced dimensional quantum dynamic method are essentially the same as those on the Xu-Chen-Zhang PES [Chin. J. Chem. Phys. 27, 373 (2014)].
