Abstract:Gas-phase ion-molecule reactions have attracted considerable attention due to their importance in the field of interstellar chemistry, plasma chemistry, combustion chemistry. The reaction of amino radical cation with hydrogen molecule is one of the crucial steps in the gas-phase formation of ammonia in the interstellar medium (ISM). The dynamics and kinetics of the NH 2 + + H 2 reaction are studied using the quasi-classical trajectory approach on a newly constructed ab initio potential energy surface (PES) for the ground electronic state. The PES is fitted by the fundamental invariant-neural network method, resulting in a total root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.061 kcal mol -1 . Dynamics calculations show that, on one hand, vibrational excitation of H 2 largely promotes the reaction. On the other hand, fundamental excitation of each vibrational mode of NH 2 + inhibits the reaction at low collision energies while has a negligible effect at high collision energies except for the symmetric stretching mode. The relatively higher efficacy of the symmetric stretching mode than that of the asymmetric stretching mode can be rationalized by the underlying reaction mechanisms. In addition, the calculated rate coefficients of the reaction agree reasonably well with available experimental results.

Abstract:Ion-molecule reactions play key roles in the field of ion related chemistry. As a prototypical multi-channel ion-molecule reaction, the reaction H2 + NH2- → NH3 + H- has been studied for decades. In this work, we develop a new globally accurate potential energy surface (PES) for the title system based on hundreds of thousands of sampled points over a wide dynamically relevant region that covers long-range interacting configuration space. The permutational invariant polynomial-neural network (PIP-NN) method is used for fitting and the resulting total root mean squared error (RMSE) is extremely small, 0.026 kcal mol-1. Extensive dynamical and kinetic calculations are carried out on this PIP-NN PES. Impressively, a unique phenomenon of significant reactivity suppression by exciting the rotational mode of H2 is reported, supported by both the quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) and quantum dynamics (QD) calculations. Further analysis uncovers that exciting the H2 rotational mode would prevent the formation of the reactant complex and thus suppress the reactivity. The calculated rate coefficients for H2/D2 + NH2- agree well with the experimental results, which show an inverse temperature dependence from 50 to 300 K, consistent with the capture nature of this barrierless reaction. The significant kinetic isotope effect observed by experiments is well reproduced by the QCT computations as well.

Abstract:This work is an extensive investigation of the F + CH3NH2 reaction dynamics using a newly-developed potential energy surface (PES). The full-dimensional spin–orbit (SO) corrected (MRCI+Q/aug-cc-pwCVDZ) PES is developed by the Robosurfer program package and the ManyHF method is used in order to fix the Hartree–Fock (HF) convergence issues in the entrance channel. On the surface, retrieved by the fitting of the iteratively extended set of the ManyHF-CCSD(T)-F12a/triple-zeta-quality and SO-corrected energy points, quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) simulations are run. By analyzing the opacity functions and integral cross sections (ICSs) of six reaction channels, the dynamics of the two most reactive hydrogen-abstraction reactions resulting in HF + CH2NH2/CH3NH products are selected for a thorough examination. Despite the statistically and thermodynamically expected results, the kinetically preferred amino hydrogen-abstraction is the dominant mechanism at low collision energies. The initial attack angle and scattering angle distributions are investigated as well. The post-reaction energy distributions show that the collision energy mostly converts into the translational energy of the products, while the reaction energy excites the vibration of the products. The computed vibrationally resolved rotational distributions and vibrational state distributions of the HF product are compared to experimental data, and the theory and experiment are found to be in good agreement.

To validate the diabatic PESs, the dynamics studies of the C+(2P1/2, 3/2) + H2 (v0 = 0, j0 = 0) → H + CH+(X1Σ+) reaction are performed using the time-dependent wave packet method. The reaction probabilities, integral cross sections, differential cross sections, and rate constants are calculated and compared with the experimental and theoretical results. Abstract:The collisions between Na atoms and H2 molecules are of great significance in the field of chemical reaction dynamics, but the corresponding dynamics results of ground-state reactions have not been reported experimentally or theoretically. Herein, a global and high-precision potential energy surface (PES) of NaH2 (12A′) is constructed by the neural network model based on 21,873 high-level ab initio points. On the newly constructed PES, the quantum dynamics calculations on the Na(2S) + H2(v0 = 0, j0 = 0) → NaH + H reaction are carried out using the time-dependent wave packet method to study the microscopic reaction mechanism at the state-to-state level. The calculated results show that the low-vibrational products are mainly formed by the dissociation of the triatomic complex; whereas, the direct reaction process dominates the generation of the products with high-vibrational states. The reaction generally follows the direct H-abstraction process, and there is also the short-lived complex-forming mechanism that occurs when the collision energy exceeds the reaction threshold slightly. The PES could be used to further study the stereodynamics effects of isotope substitution and rovibrational excitations on the title reaction, and the presented dynamics data would provide an important reference on the corresponding experimental research at a higher level.

Abstract:In order to study the dynamics of the reaction H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+), a new potential energy surface (PES) for the ground state of the NaH2 system is constructed based on 35 730 ab initio energy points. Using basis sets of quadruple zeta quality, multireference configuration interaction calculations with Davidson correction were carried out to obtain the ab initio energy points. The neural network method is used to fit the PES, and the root mean square error is very small (0.00639 eV). The bond lengths, dissociation energies, zero-point energies and spectroscopic constants of H2(X1Σg+) and NaH(X1Σ+) obtained on the new NaH2 PES are in good agreement with the experiment data. On the new PES, the reactant coordinate-based time-dependent wave packet method is applied to study the reaction dynamics of H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+), and the reaction probabilities, integral cross-sections (ICSs) and differential cross-sections (DCSs) are obtained. There is no threshold in the reaction due to the absence of an energy barrier on the minimum energy path. When the collision energy increases, the ICSs decrease from a high value at low collision energy. The DCS results show that the angular distribution of the product molecules tends to the forward direction. Compared with the LiH2 system, the NaH2 system has a larger mass and the PES has a larger well at the H-NaH configuration, which leads to a higher ICS value in the H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+) reaction. Because the H(2S) + NaH(X1Σ+) → Na(2S) + H2(X1Σg+) reaction releases more energy, the product molecules can be excited to a higher vibrational state.

Abstract:Chemical reactions between Be+ ions and H2 molecules have significance in the fields of ultracold chemistry and astrophysics, but the corresponding dynamics studies on the ground-state reaction have not been reported because of the lack of a global potential energy surface (PES). Herein, a globally accurate ground-state BeH2+ PES is constructed using the neural network model based on 18,657 ab initio points calculated by the multi-reference configuration interaction method with the aug-cc-PVQZ basis set. On the newly constructed PES, the state-to-state quantum dynamics calculations of the Be+(2S) + H2(v0 = 0; j0 = 0) and Be+(2S) + D2(v0 = 0; j0 = 0) reactions are performed using the time-dependent wave packet method. The calculated results suggest that the two reactions are dominated by the complex-forming mechanism and the direct abstraction process at relatively low and high collision energies, respectively, and the isotope substitution has little effect on the reaction dynamics characteristics. The new PES can be used to further study the reaction dynamics of the BeH2+ system, such as the effects of rovibrational excitations and alignment of reactant molecules, and the present dynamics data could provide an important reference for further experimental studies at a finer level.

Abstract:The potential energy surface (PES) for the H + CH4 system has been constructed with the recently developed XYG3 doubly hybrid functional, while those with the standard B3LYP hybrid functional, and the Møller–Plesset perturbation theory up to the second order (MP2) are also presented for comparison. Quantum dynamics studies demonstrated that satisfactory results on the reaction probabilities and the rate coefficients can be obtained on top of the XYG3‐PES, as compared to the results based on the highly accurate, yet expensive, CCSD(T)‐PES (Li et al., J. Chem. Phys. 2015, 142, 204302). Further investigation suggested that the XYG3 functional is useful in providing accurate rate coefficients for some larger systems involving H atom abstractions. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
A global ab initio potential energy surface and dynamics of the proton-transfer reaction: OH- + D2 → HOD + D.

Abstract:We report an accurate full-dimensional potential energy surface (PES) of the anion-molecule system OH3-. The PES was constructed by fitting 55 406 ab inito energies from the CCSD(T)/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory with the fundamental invariant neural network (FI-NN) approach, resulting in an extremely small fitting error of 0.52 meV. Extensive quasiclassical trajectory (QCT) simulations were carried out on the PES to investigate the proton transfer dynamics (OH- + D2 → D- + HOD). The product D- translational energy distribution and angular distribution were calculated and compared with previous experimental measurements, in which reasonably good agreement has been achieved. The angular distribution at a high collision energy exhibits an exclusively forward scattering peak, indicating the direct stripping mechanism at high energies. With the decrease of the collision energy, the reaction shows a predominantly forward scattering feature, with very small sideways and backward scattering amplitudes, revealing combined mechanisms from direct abstraction with a short reaction time and a complex-forming process with a long reaction time.

Abstract:In addition to its vital significance in combustion and atmospheric chemistry, the reaction between H' and HO2 on the ground triplet state represents a prototype with multiple product channels, including H2 + O2, OH + OH, O + H2O, and H + H'O2. In this work, a full-dimensional accurate potential energy surface (PES) for the title reaction was developed to provide reliable descriptions for all dynamically relevant regions. Using this PES, we adopted the quasi-classical trajectory approach to study the corresponding reaction dynamics, including the reactivity of each product channel and the associated product branching ratio, the product energy distributions, product angular distributions, and associated microscopic mechanisms. For representing distributions of the product energies, such as product translational energy as well as product rotational and vibrational energies, both the traditional histogram and the kernel density estimation (KDE) methods were used and compared. It seems that the features of the resulting distributions in this work are very similar to each other among different methods. The KDE method is suggested for statistics, particularly for those populations with small oscillations in the histogram plot.
Full-dimensional Global Potential Energy Surfaces Describing Abstraction and Exchange for the H + H2S Reaction.

Abstract:For the H + H2S system, ∼34 000 data points are sampled over a large configuration space including both abstraction and exchange channels, and calculated at the level of explicitly correlated unrestricted coupled cluster method with singles, doubles, and perturbative triples excitations with the augmented correlation-consistent polarized triple zeta basis set (UCCSD(T)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ). The data set was fit using the newly proposed permutation invariant polynomial-neural network (PIP-NN) method with three different vectors as the input: two redundant sets of PIPs, one with the maximum order four (PES-I) and one with the maximum order three (PES-II), and nine non-redundant PIPs (PES-III). All these PESs show small fitting errors and essentially the same performance in representing the title system. Various kinetics and dynamical properties are calculated using the tunneling corrected transition state theory and quasi-classical trajectory, and compared with available experimental results. At a collision energy of 10 kcal/mol, both the H2 and SH products are found to be internally cold, with ∼20% of H2 at its first vibrational excited state, while SH is essentially a spectator. The angular distributions of the products are mainly in backward with considerable contributions from sideway direction. In addition, analytical partial derivatives of any PIP-NN PES with respect to the coordinates of atoms are derived by making use of the monomial symmetrization algorithm [Z. Xie and J. M. Bowman, J. Chem. Theory Comput. 6, 26-34 (2010)]. It can not only accelerate the evaluation of the derivatives, but also improve the energy convergence significantly.
An Accurate Full-Dimensional H4O Potential Energy Surface and Dynamics of an Exchange Reaction.

Abstract:H2O and H-2 are ubiquitous in the universe and their collisions play a crucial role in astrophysical processes. The reaction between the two also provides a prototype for understanding dynamics through four-center transition states. In this work, we adopted a strategy of combing two ab initio methods, CCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ and MRCI-F12 + Q(rot)/AVTZ, to provide a balanced description for all regions of the configuration space, including one hydrogen exchange channel and two dissociation channels, namely H-2 + H2O, H + H + H2O, and H + OH + H-2. About 40 500 points were sampled to cover all dynamically relevant space, and the permutation invariant polynomial-neural network (PIP-NN) method was employed to develop a high-precision full-dimensional potential energy surface (PES), with a total fitting error of 0.055 kcal mol(-1). Using a quasi-classical trajectory (QCT) method, the reaction dynamics and mode specificity of the hydrogen exchange channel were studied on the PES. It has been found that the stretching mode of H-2, the bending, the symmetric stretching, the asymmetric stretching mode of H2O, and the translational mode can all promote reactivity. The strongest promotion effect comes from the H-H stretching mode. The Sudden Vector Projection (SVP) model was applied to predict mode specificity effects and rationalize the product energy partitioning. In both cases, the QCT and SVP results are generally consistent with each other. Furthermore, the hydrogen exchange channel was found to be dominated by sideways scattering.
Ab initio based potential energy surface and kinetic studies of the H + HCF3 reaction

Abstract:In this study, the kinetics of hydrogen abstraction reaction H + HCF3 → H2 + CF3 are studied using both tunneling-corrected transition state and quasi-classical trajectory methods on a newly developed global potential energy surface (PES). The PES is constructed by fitting 31 968 ab initio points at the level of UCCSD(T)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ using the permutation invariant polynomial-neural network method. The thermal rate coefficients determined for both the forward and reverse reactions exhibit satisfactory agreement with the experimental observations, affirming the accuracy of the potential energy surface. In addition, an investigation into the kinetic isotope effects on the reverse reaction is carried out by substituting H2 with D2. These findings collectively serve as explicit evidence that quantum tunnelling plays a significant role, even under elevated temperature conditions.

Abstract:We report a permutationally invariant global potential energy surface (PES) for the H + CH4 system based on ∼63,000 data points calculated at a high ab initio level (UCCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ) using the recently proposed permutation invariant polynomial-neural network method. The small fitting error (5.1 meV) indicates a faithful representation of the ab initio points over a large configuration space. The rate coefficients calculated on the PES using tunneling corrected transition-state theory and quasi-classical trajectory are found to agree well with the available experimental and previous quantum dynamical results. The calculated total reaction probabilities (Jtot = 0) including the abstraction and exchange channels using the new potential by a reduced dimensional quantum dynamic method are essentially the same as those on the Xu-Chen-Zhang PES [Chin. J. Chem. Phys. 27, 373 (2014)].

Abstract:A global potential energy surface (PES) for the ground electronic state of FH2O is constructed based on more than 30 000 ab initio points at the multi-reference configuration interaction level. The PES features a pre-reaction van der Waals well and two post-reaction hydrogen-bonded complexes, as well as a "reactant-like" transition state with a classical barrier of 3.8 kcal/mol. The adiabatic F + H2O -> HF + OH reaction dynamics on this PES was investigated using a standard quasi-classical trajectory method. In agreement with experiment, the HF product contains significant vibrational excitation with limited rotational excitation, while the OH product is internally cold, reflecting its spectator role in the reaction. FULL-DIMENSIONAL POTENTIAL ENERGY SURFACE AND DYNAMICS OF THE OH + CH3SH GAS-PHASE REACTION

Abstract:In the present work we have developed for the first time an analytical full-dimensional potential energy surface, PES-2024, describing the polyatomic OH + CH3SH gas-phase reaction. This reaction presents some intrinsic difficulties, such as 18 degrees of freedom, two reactive channels and the presence of intermediate complexes in the entrance and exit channels. In the valence bond-molecular mechanics, VB-MM, framework, we have developed this potential based on a reduced number of high-level ab initio calculations, the input data. The new PES has been subjected to a series of stringent tests. PES-2024 simultaneously describes the two reaction paths, hydrogen abstraction from the methyl group (R1 path) and from the thiol group (R2 path) forming the water molecule, and reasonably describing the topology of the reaction: high exothermicities, low barriers and the presence of intermediate complexes. Based on this surface, quasi-classical trajectory calculations (QCT) were performed at room temperature, with special emphasis on the H2O(v1,v2,v3) product stretching and bending vibrational excitations, and the results compared with the experimental evidence. The available energy was mostly deposited as water vibrational energy, 49%, simulating the experimental evidence. Agreement with experiments of these detailed state-to-state results lend confidence to the new surface.
