Abstract:It is consistent that the continuum be arbitrary large and no absolute $\kappa$-Borel set $X$ of density $\kappa$, $\aleph_1<\kappa<\mathfrak{c}$, condenses onto a compact metric space. It is consistent that the continuum be arbitrary large and any absolute $\kappa$-Borel set $X$ of density $\kappa$, $\kappa\leq\mathfrak{c}$, containing a closed subspace of the Baire space of weight $\kappa$, condenses onto a compactum. In particular, applying Brian's results in model theory, we get the following unexpected result. Given any $A\subseteq \mathbb{N}$ with $1\in A$, there is a forcing extension in which every absolute $\aleph_n$-Borel set, containing a closed subspace of the Baire space of weight $\aleph_n$, condenses onto a compactum if, and only if, $n\in A$.

Abstract:We present some sufficient conditions ensuring the upper semicontinuity and the continuity of the Bregman projection operator ΠCg and the relative projection operator PCg in terms of the D-approximate (weak) compactness for a nonempty closed set C in a Banach space X. We next present certain sufficient conditions as well as equivalent conditions for the convexity of a Chebyshev subset of a Banach space X. Our results extend the corresponding results of [H.H. Bauschke, X.F. Wang, J. Ye and X. M. Yuan, Bregman distances and Chebyshev sets, J. Approx. Theory 159 (2009) 3–25] to infinite dimensional spaces.

Abstract: In this article, we study the properties of conjugacies between polynomial basins. For any conjugacy, there is a quasiconformal conjugacy in the same homotopy class minimizing the dilatation. We compute the precise value of the minimal dilatation. The quasiconformal conjugacy minimizing the dilatation is not unique in general. We give a necessary and sufficient condition when the extremal map is unique.

Abstract:A set of reals is universally Baire if all of its continuous preimages in topological spaces have the Baire property. is a type of generic absoluteness condition introduced by Woodin that asserts in strong terms that the theory of the universally Baire sets cannot be changed by forcing. The ( ) is a determinacy axiom isolated by Woodin. It asserts that the largest Suslin cardinal is inaccessible for ordinal definable bijections. Let be the statement that in all (set) generic extensions there is a model of whose Suslin, co-Suslin sets are the universally Baire sets. We show that over some mild large cardinal theory, is equiconsistent with . In fact, we isolate an exact large cardinal theory that is equiconsistent with both (see Definition 2.7). As a consequence, we obtain that is weaker than the theory ' there is a Woodin cardinal which is a limit of Woodin cardinals'. A variation of , called , is also shown to be equiconsistent with over the same large cardinal theory. The result is proven via Woodin's technique and is essentially the ultimate equiconsistency that can be proven via the current interpretation of as explained in the paper.

Let $(z_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ be a sequence in $Z$ such that: (a) for each $n\in \mathbb{N}$, the set $\{M(z_n):M\in \mathcal{M}\}$ is relatively norm compact; (b) for each sequence $(M_n)_{n\in \mathbb{N}}$ in $\mathcal{M}$, the series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty M_n(z_n)$ is weakly unconditionally Cauchy. We prove that if $T\in \mathcal{M}$ is Dunford-Pettis and $\inf_{n\in \mathbb{N}}\|T(z_n)\|\|z_n\|^{-1}>0$, then the series $\sum_{n=1}^\infty T(z_n)$ is absolutely convergent. As an application, we provide another proof of the fact that a countably additive vector measure taking values in an Asplund Banach space has finite variation whenever its integration operator is Dunford-Pettis.

Abstract:We construct a non-sheafy uniform Banach algebra such that a rational localisation of the Berkovich spectrum does not preserve the uniformity. We also construct uniform affinoid rings in the sense of Roland Huber such that rational localisations of the adic spectra do not preserve the uniformity. One of them is an example of a non-sheafy uniform affinoid ring. We introduce the notion of local uniformity instead, and prove that the local uniformity implies the sheaf condition.

Abstract:We show that if $G$ is amenable and $A\subseteq G$ has positive upper Banach density, then there is an identity neighborhood $B$ in the Bohr topology on $G$ that is almost contained in $AA^{-1}$ in the sense that $B\backslash AA^{-1}$ has upper Banach density $0$. This generalizes the abelian case (due to Følner) and the countable case (due to Beiglböck, Bergelson, and Fish). The proof is indirectly based on local stable group theory in continuous logic. The main ingredients are Grothendieck's double-limit characterization of relatively weakly compact sets in spaces of continuous functions, along with results of Ellis and Nerurkar on the topological dynamics of weakly almost periodic flows.

Abstract:We show how to turn the question of the absolute continuity of Bernoulli convolutions into one of counting the growth of the number of overlaps in the system. When the contraction parameter is a hyperbolic algebraic integer, we turn this question of absolute continuity into a question involving the ergodic theory of cocycles over domain exchange transformations.

Abstract:We prove that for any $\ell_\infty$-sum $Z = \bigoplus_{i \in [n]} X_i$ of finitely many strictly convex Banach spaces $(X_i)_{i \in [n]}$, an extremeness preserving 1-Lipschitz bijection $f\colon B_Z \to B_Z$ is an isometry, by constraining the componentwise behavior of the inverse $g=f^{-1}$ with a theorem admitting a graph-theoretic interpretation. We also show that if $X, Y$ are Banach spaces, then a bijective 1-Lipschitz non-isometry of type $B_X \to B_Y$ can be used to construct a bijective 1-Lipschitz non-isometry of type $B_{X'} \to B_{X'}$ for some Banach space $X'$, and that a homeomorphic 1-Lipschitz non-isometry of type $B_X \to B_X$ restricts to a homeomorphic 1-Lipschitz non-isometry of type $B_S \to B_S$ for some separable subspace $S \leq X$.

Abstract:The paper contains a review of known results and proofs of new results on conditions on a set in a Banach space that are necessary or sufficient for the additive semigroup to be dense in . We prove, in particular, that if is a rectifiable curve in a uniformly smooth real space , and does not lie entirely in any closed half-space, then is dense in . We present known and new results on the approximation by simple partial fractions (logarithmic derivatives of polynomials) in various spaces of functions of a complex variable. Meanwhile, some well-known theorems, in particular, Korevaar's theorem, are derived from new general results on the density of a semigroup. We also study approximation by sums of shifts of one function, which are a natural generalization of simple partial fractions. Bibliography: 79 titles.

Abstract:We prove the following results: (i) Every absolutely weakly compact set in a Banach lattice is absolutely weakly sequentially compact. (ii) The converse of (i) holds if $E$ is separable or $B_{E^{**}}$ is absolutely weak$^*$ compact. (iii) Every absolutely weakly compact subset of a Banach lattice is contained in the closed convex hull of an absolutely weakly null sequence if and only if the Banach lattice has the positive Schur property. Examples and applications are provided.

Abstract:Let $\sum (X)$ be the collection of subalgebras of $C(X)$ containing $C^{*}(X)$, where $X$ is a Tychonoff space. For any $A(X)\in \sum(X)$ there is associated a subset $\upsilon_{A}(X)$ of $\beta X$ which is an $A$-analogue of the Hewitt real compactification $\upsilon X$ of $X$. For any $A(X)\in \sum(X)$, let $[A(X)]$ be the class of all $B(X)\in \sum(X)$ such that $\upsilon_{A}(X)=\upsilon_{B}(X)$. We have shown that for first countable non compact real compact space $X$, $[A(X)]$ contains at least $2^{c}$ many different subalgebras no two of which are isomorphic.

Abstract:In this note we find λ > 1 \lambda >1 and give an explicit construction of a separable Banach space X X such that there is no λ \lambda -Lipschitz retraction from X X onto any compact convex subset of X X whose closed linear span is X X . This is closely related to a well-known open problem raised by Godefroy and Ozawa in 2014 and represents the first known example of a Banach space with such a property.

Abstract:We study the phenomenon of real space condensation in the steady state of a class of mass transport models where the steady state factorises. The grand canonical ensemble may be used to derive the criterion for the occurrence of a condensation transition but does not shed light on the nature of the condensate. Here, within the canonical ensemble, we analyse the condensation transition and the structure of the condensate, determining the precise shape and the size of the condensate in the condensed phase. We find two distinct condensate regimes: one where the condensate is gaussian distributed and the particle number fluctuations scale normally as $L^{1/2}$ where $L$ is the system size, and a second regime where the particle number fluctuations become anomalously large and the condensate peak is non-gaussian. Our results are asymptotically exact and can also be interpreted within the framework of sums of random variables. We further analyse two additional cases: one where the condensation transition is somewhat different from the usual second order phase transition and one where there is no true condensation transition but instead a pseudocondensate appears at superextensive densities.

Abstract:Strong compactness results for families of functions in seminormed nonnegative cones in the spirit of the Aubin-Lions-Dubinskiĭ lemma are proven, refining some recent results in the literature. The first theorem sharpens slightly a result of Dubinskiĭ (in Mat. Sb. 67(109):609–642, 1965) for seminormed cones. The second theorem applies to piecewise constant functions in time and sharpens slightly the results of Dreher and Jüngel (in Nonlinear Anal. 75:3072–3077, 2012) and Chen and Liu (in Appl. Math. Lett. 25:2252–2257, 2012). An application is given, which is useful in the study of porous-medium or fast-diffusion type equations.
