Abstract:Binocular stereo vision is an important aspect in computer vision field. In this paper, it is made a systematic research, which is the system of human-computer interaction based on bincular stereo vision. In order to improve the anti-interference performance the hardware system worked in the condition of near infrared ; to inhance the real time operation , the level of difficulty with stereo matching algorithm is simplified through special hardware design; based on the ICP algorithm for tracking tools, the flexibility and convenience of system are increasingly. The application in surgical navigation system is discussed. In the prototype system, how to unified virtual coordinates and real coordinates has been presented; the problem on how to tracking patient undergoing in real-time is solved. The result has higher precision and practicability, which provide a good platform for virtual reality.

Abstract:Laser and visual imagery have been broadly utilized in computer vision and mobile robotics applications because these sensors provide complementary information. Since the single-point laser range finder can provide depth information of a single pixel in the observed image, its price and size is very suitable for handheld devices or very lightweight robotic platforms. So the combination of a single-point laser range finder and a camera has become increasingly useful in recent report and industrial applications. In this paper, we propose two accurate calibration methods for determining the position and direction of the laser range finder relative to the camera. Furthermore, we can accomplish calibration even without observing the laser spot in camera image. We evaluate the two methods through experiments which demonstrate their efficiency and high reliability.

Abstract:Finding the distance of object in a scene from vision information is an important problem in machine vision. A large number of techniques for passive ranging of unknown objects have been developed over the years (i.e. range from stereo, motion, focus and defocus). Nearly all such techniques may be framed in terms of a differential formalism. In the case of binocular stereo, two different images are taken from cameras at different discrete viewpoints, similarly, difference between consecutive images are often used to determine viewpoint derivatives for structure from motion and two or more different images taken from cameras with different aperture size are used to compute the derivative respect to aperture size for range from focus and defocus method. All this methods may be fallen into a discrete differentiation category. Farid proposed a consecutive differentiation method for range estimation which employs the intensity variation of the images along with the aperture changes to measure the ran-e information. In this paper, we first consider the plenoptic function which is a powerful mathematical tool for understanding the primary vision problem. We then show an algorithm within a differential framework for range estimation based on the assumption of brightness constancy. Finally we show several implementations of passive ranging using this differential alogorithm.

Abstract:In this paper, a random access inter-satellite ranging (RAISR) system is designed. The ranging accuracy is optimized by an algorithm to greatly improve the ranging accuracy. This paper verifies the feasibility of the RAISR system through a series of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, hardware system design and testing. The research work brings the solution to the design and accuracy optimization problem of the RAISR system, which eliminates the main error caused by the satellite dynamic characteristics and frequency source drift of the RAISR system. The accuracy of the measurement system has been significantly improved.

Abstract:A high-precision pseudo-noise ranging system is often required in satellite-formation missions. But in an actual PN ranging system, digital signal processing limits the ranging accuracy, only level up with meter-scale. Using non-integer chip to sample time ratio, noncommensurate sampling was seen as an effective solution to cope with the drawback of digital effects. However, researchers only paid attention to selecting specific ratios or giving a simulation model to verify the effectiveness of the noncommensurate ratios. A qualitative analysis model is proposed to characterize the relationship between the range accuracy and the noncommensurate sampling parameters. Moreover, a method is also presented which can be used to choose the noncommensurate ratio and the correlation length to get higher phase delay distinguishability and lower range jitter. The simulation results indicate the correctness of our analyses and the optimal ranging accuracy can be up to centimeter-level with the proposed approach.

Abstract:Binocular vision ranging, according to the principle of parallax, represents the three dimensional depth in a parallax of 2d image plane. In order to improve the measurement accuracy of the binocular vision ranging, an adaptive zoom distance measuring methodology is focused on in the work. The causes of the error generation during the ranging process and its improvement difficulties are discussed. SIFT (Scale-invariant feature transform) is introduced to obtain parallax. With the samples of focal length acquired through the distance formula, the focal length function about distance is fitted through the least square method. A new distance formula is derived from the focal length function and the distance formula. In addition, a corresponding system is developed to realize the ranging process. To illustrate the procedure of the combination approach, an experiment is conducted with the developed system. The data from the experiment show that this technique can achieve accurate ranging. With the adaptive zoom method, ranging accuracy can reach more than 90%.

An extrinsic calibration method for binocular cameras and swing 2D laser rangefinder

Abstract:In this paper a novel method is proposed to calibrate the extrinsic parameters of the swing 2D laser range-finder (LRF) and binocular cameras system. Target object that need special processing is abandoned. Extrinsic calibration is completed with one observation of three planes that posted with checkboard-like posters. The procedure is simplified. Superior to the monocular vision, stereo vision can obtain more information of scene. 3D virtual points and lines are deduced by analyzing the intersected 3D planes and they are used as inputs to an optimization problem which estimating the relative pose between camera and LRF. Moreover, we build geometric model of swing LRF and estimate the two important parameters with Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) individually. Thus, the distortion of point cloud that caused by mechanical structure is corrected as pretreatment of relative pose calculation. Experimental results demonstrate the validity of the proposed calibration and correction methods.

Abstract:Compared with the traditional contact ranging technology, the optic-electronic ranging technology has been widely used in the fields of automatic measurement and online monitoring because of its non-contacting mode, good accuracy, real-time and other prominent advantages. Aiming at the engineering requirements of the close quarters ranging, the paper designed an optic-electronic ranging system for close quarters based on PSD. With the improved vertical-incidence triangulation as measuring principle, the optical system was set up on the optical platform. And then the position signal detecting circuit and the data acquisition and processing circuit were designed. The data acquisition and processing circuit with the ARM microprocessor as its core used the own 12 bit high-speed A/D convert module of the chip to collect the data. The circuit realized the other functions such as the real-time display, the LED indication and the buzzer warning. The test results show that the measuring range of the system is 100 mm to 150 mm, and ranging accuracy could reach 1 mm. The system ultimately reached the preliminary design requirements.

Abstract:Stereo vision is an active research area in these years because of its wide sight area and the ability to get information integrally, while traditional method of distance-measure using supersonic or infrared ray has the disadvantage such as ease to be disturbed and difficulty establishing the target. A hardware system is constructed, to measure the distance, based on a simplised binocular competition stereo distance measurement algorithm, of which the calculation and request of hardware are very simple. Calculating on the data from two cameras, the distance can be figured out in real time on PC.

Abstract and Applied Analysis

Abstract:This paper proposed target image in a subpixel level matching algorithm for binocular CCD ranging, which is based on the principle of binocular CCD ranging. In the paper, firstly, we introduced the ranging principle of the binocular ranging system and deduced a binocular parallax formula. Secondly, we deduced the algorithm which was named improved cross-correlation matching algorithm and cubic surface fitting algorithm for target images matched, and it could achieve a subpixel level matching for binocular CCD ranging images. Lastly, through experiment we have analyzed and verified the actual CCD ranging images, then analyzed the errors of the experimental results and corrected the formula of calculating system errors. Experimental results showed that the actual measurement accuracy of a target within 3 km was higher than 0.52%, which meet the accuracy requirements of the high precision binocular ranging.

Abstract:Addressing the issue of nonlinear aberration stemming from refraction encountered in underwater binocular vision system measurements, we present an algorithm aimed at calibrating said system requiring only a small number of camera positions to capture pictures of an underwater planar surface. Following this, the calibration parameters of the underwater binocular vision system can be completed. The technique takes into account the genuine refraction of light in the underwater environment, utilizing the quaternion for optical tracking. It also considers the true application of the refraction plane and the non-perpendicular optical axis situation, optimized with the particle swarm algorithm for key parameters. Based on the calibration results, the algorithm yielded an average measurement error of no more than 0.1 mm for objects measured in varying attitudes. The maximum measurement error did not exceed 0.5 mm.

Abstract:Abstract The laser scanning and ranging system is a pivotal technology for conducting high-precision multi-dimensional measurements, with diverse applications in remote sensing, satellite formation flying, and surface profilometry. However, the capability to achieve accurate measurement of the current system is limited by the beam-pointing mechanism. Specifically, the rotation angle of the beam-pointing mechanism is too small to achieve zero-position self-calibration, and this mechanism can introduce errors that exceed the precision of distance measurement. Herein, we propose a self-referenced laser scanning and ranging system that can directly determine the measurement origin and avoid motion-induced optical path length errors into the interferometric arms. This system is achieved by placing the reference arm of the measurement system after the beam-pointing mechanism in the optical path. Using a dual-comb ranging system with a precision of ~0.8 μm, we validated the performance of our design through scanning experiments with hollow retroreflectors and surface profile reconstruction of a gauge-block assembly. The experimental results demonstrate that our design achieves accurate measurements without pre-calibration or post-compensation, thereby enhancing its applicability to next-generation space missions.

Abstract:To achieve non-contact automatic measurement of packaging cases in the transportation process of the logistics industry, such as secondary packaging, transshipment, and warehousing, a machine vision dimension measurement system based on binocular stereo vision was proposed. Firstly, the method of combining the SURF algorithm with FREAK descriptor improves the execution efficiency of the algorithm while ensuring the acquisition of better identification feature points; Then, the MISMATCHING feature points are eliminated through the PROSAC mechanism, and the initial disparity map is optimized using bilateral filtering. The spatial information of the measured object is obtained through three-dimensional reconstruction; Finally, a combination of Canny edge detection and Harris corner detection is used to extract the edge information of the object, and the geometric description of the external contour of the target object is obtained through line fitting and calculate the precise size of the measured object through the modified three-dimensional space volume. The experimental results show that this method can effectively identify and describe the shape of various specifications of the measured object, and the measurement error and real-time performance can solve the industrial requirements of the logistics industry.

Abstract:Precise calibration of a binocular vision system is the foundation of binocular vision measurement. In this paper, we propose a highly precise and robust binocular camera calibration method, which is devoted to minimize the error between the geometric relation of 3D reconstructed feature points and the ground truth, such as adjacent distance error, collinear error, and right-angle error. In addition, the reprojection error and epipolar are introduced to satisfy the homography relation and epipolar geometry theory better. We optimize all intrinsic parameters, extrinsic parameters, and distortion parameters to minimize the objective function, which is the sum of a series of nonlinear least squares terms. Levenberg-Marquardt iterative algorithm is used to find the optimal solution of the camera parameters. To test the precision and robustness of the proposed method, both actual measurement experiments and Gauss noise-adding experiments are carried out. The experimental results show that compared with the other two calibration methods in the contrast experiment, the distance measurement error, collinear error, and right-angle error are reduced dramatically. It is noticeable that in Gauss noise-adding experiments, the calibration parameters estimated by the proposed method are more stable.
Effect of Seed Weight and Salinity on the Germination of Garden Orache ( Atriplex hortensis

Abstract:Garden orache (Atriplex hortensis L.), a halophytic forb in the family Chenopodiaceae, is well adapted to dry saline habitats. Here, we presented the results of the effect of salinity and seed weight on seed germination and radicle emergence of A. hortensis. Highest germination percentages were obtained under non-saline conditions and increases in salinity inhibited seed germination with less than 50% of the seeds germinating at 260 mM NaCl. Seeds of A. hortensis exhibited a very pronounced morphological and physiological seed polymorphism. Seed weight varied from 0.11 to 0.19 g. Large seeds had a mean dry weight of 0.19 mg and a mean length of 2.6 mm; medium seeds and mean dry weight of 0.15 mg and mean length of 1.9 mm; small seeds and mean dry weight of 0.11 mg and mean length of 1.1 mm. Seedling dry weight was related to initial seed size. The degree of salt tolerance increased progressively with increasing seed dry weight. Radicle elongation was increased by low salinity and it decreased with an increase in salinity. Based on the observations, it is inferred that the germination percentage of large seed size class of A. hortensis was highest as compared to small seed size class. The seed size is an important factor that influences the germination under normal as well as, salinity stress conditions.

Abstract:Binocular stereo vision is an important branch of machine vision, which imitates the human eye and matches the left and right images captured by the camera based on epipolar constraints. The matched disparity map can be calculated according to the camera imaging model to obtain a depth map, and then the depth map is converted to a point cloud image to obtain spatial point coordinates, thereby achieving the purpose of ranging. However, due to the influence of illumination under water, the captured images no longer meet the epipolar constraints, and the changes in imaging models make traditional calibration methods no longer applicable. Therefore, this paper proposes a new underwater real-time calibration method and a matching method based on the best search domain to improve the accuracy of underwater distance measurement using binoculars.

Accuracy Analysis of Binocular Vision System

Abstract:To improve the measurement accuracy of the binocular vision system, the binocular vision system error model is established. Meanwhile, the influence of camera calibration accuracy and the lens parameters and structural parameters of vision system on system accuracy are analyzed. And the rationality of the theoretical analysis is verified by experiment. The experiment results show that, when placing calibration targets at the different depths relative to the camera of the entire field of view, the system accuracy can be improved effectively by increasing the number of calibration image. The system error can be reduced by increasing the baseline distance in the premise of effective field of view. And the system has higher measurement accuracy while the angle values between the baseline and the optic axial range from 55o to 70o.

Abstract:Binocular stereo vision (BSV) system has been widely used in various fields, such as intelligent manufacture, smart robot, and so on. However, the location accuracy of the current BSV still cannot fully satisfy industry requirements due to lack of a parameters optimization BSV system. In this paper, a high accuracy BSV system is proposed. This is achieved through analyzing the seven parameters of the BSV system, which are classified into two groups: system structure parameters (SSPs) and camera calibration parameters (CCPs). For the SSPs, an improved analysis model is designed to expose the possible errors caused by three parameters. Furthermore, a new correlation model among them is also proposed to analyze the errors caused by their correlation. On the other hand, for the CCPs, the orthogonal experiment model is employed for selecting the optimal combination of the four calibration parameters. Meanwhile, the weight among the four parameters is also analyzed for reducing errors. Finally, the effectiveness of our proposed method is demonstrated by a large number of experiments. It gives a useful reference to the BSV system used in applied optics research and application fields.

Abstract:Binocular stereovision has become one of the development trends of machine vision and has been widely used in robot recognition and positioning. However, the current research on omnidirectional motion handling robots at home and abroad is too limited, and many problems cannot be solved well, such as single operating systems, complex algorithms, and low recognition rates. To make a high-efficiency handling robot with high recognition rate, this article studies the problem of robot image feature extraction and matching and proposes an improved speeded up robust features (SURF) algorithm that combines the advantages of both SURF and Binary Robust Independent Elementary Features. The algorithm greatly simplifies the complexity of the algorithm. Experiments show that the improved algorithm greatly improves the speed of matching and ensures the real-time and robustness of the algorithm. In this article, the problem of positioning the target workpiece of the robot is studied. The three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction of the target workpiece position is performed to obtain the 3-D coordinates of the target workpiece position, thereby completing the positioning work. This article designs a software framework for real-time 3-D object reconstruction. A Bayesian-based matching algorithm combined with Delaunay triangulation is used to obtain the relationship between supported and nonsupported points, and 3-D reconstruction of target objects from sparse to dense matches is achieved.
