Abstract:Compositionally related cesium lead halide materials, such as CsPb2X5, have attracted great interest due to their considerable optoelectronic/optical properties as well as improved stability. Currently, CsPb2Br5 nanocrystals can be well-designed by tuning the ligands or precursor ratio, whereas, CsPb2X5 (with Cl- or I-) nanocrystals can only be obtained by the anion exchange method. Herein, we report a method to directly synthesize CsPb2X5 facilitated by thiol ligands. The morphology of CsPb2X5 can be designed as a nanowire. Importantly, the stability of directly synthesized CsPb2X5 nanowires is much improved when compared with the stabilities of the materials obtained by the anion-exchange method. We believe that this method will promote the application of 1D tetragonal CsPb2X5 in optoelectronics, optics and other fields.

Abstract:Great efforts have been devoted to the synthesis of various CsPbX3 nanostructures in view of their excellent photovoltaic performance and promising optoelectronic applications. However, the preparation of high-quality one-dimensional cesium lead halide nanotubes still remains challenging and unexplored. Here, we report a microwave-assisted synthetic approach for high-quality single crystalline CsPbI3 nanotubes featuring highly uniform sizes and stable and bright photoluminescence. Furthermore, a CsPbI3 nanotube based photodetector was assembled, which exhibits high sensitivity, stability and a fast response to 405 nm wavelength light. As a new member of the all-inorganic CsPbX3 nanostructure family, CsPbI3 nanotubes could provide a potential platform for understanding their fundamental properties and paving the way for their future application in optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Controlled synthesis of colloidal all-inorganic lead halide perovskite semiconductor nanocrystals, such as CsPbBr3, with tunable size, shape, composition, and crystalline phase have recently attracted wide interest for photonic and optoelectronic applications. Herein, we report a new strategy for using alkyl-thiols to induce the transformation of CsPbBr3 to perovskite-related cesium lead halide (CsPb2Br5) with controlled morphology and a crystalline phase at room temperature. By rational tuning the ratios of the alkyl-thiol ligands to alkyl-amines or to alkyl-acids, the as-synthesized colloidal nanocrystals can be rationally controlled from orthorhombic crystalline-phase CsPbBr3 to tetragonal-phase CsPb2Br5 nanosheets and nanowires with high yield. Significantly, the tetragonal CsPb2Br5 nanowires and nanosheets have high stability in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. These findings may open new directions for large-scale synthesis of shape- and crystalline phase-controlled perovskite nanocrystals for high-performance, low-cost optical electronic and optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Significance Nanowire lasers are miniaturized light sources with great potential for integration into optoelectronic circuits. Many of the current nanowire lasers either require extreme conditions for synthesis or suffer from poor operational stability. We synthesize nanowires of a promising set of compositions, the cesium lead halides, and accomplish this under near-ambient conditions. These nanowires act as efficient laser cavities and are capable of lasing with relatively low excitation thresholds. They also demonstrate unprecedented stability for a perovskite-based nanowire laser and offer a new nanoscale platform for future study.

Abstract:A facile, low-temperature precipitation-based method is utilized to demonstrate the synthesis of ultra-thin and highly-uniform cesium lead bromide perovskite nanowires (NWs). The reactions facilitate the NWs crystalline nature over micron-size lengths, while they impart tailored nanowire widths that range from the quantum confinement regime (~ 7 nm) and down to 2.6 nm. This colloidal synthesis approach is the first of its kind that is carried out on the work-bench, without demanding chemical synthesis equipment. Importantly, the NWs photoluminescence is shown to become improved over time, with no tedious post-synthesis surface treatment requirement.

Abstract:In the present paper, we successfully synthesized novel single-crystal closed PbS nanowires with regular geometric morphologies in a relatively simple oil system. They were prepared from the reaction of lead acetate and thiourea using phenyl ether as solvent and oleic acid as surfactant at 140 °C for 0.5 h under N2 atmosphere. The obtained products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED). XRD pattern confirms the formation of binary phase-pure PbS nanocrystals. HRTEM and TEM results demonstrated that the diameter of the as-obtained PbS nanowires is ∼7 nm and the length is several hundreds of nanometers. The crystal growth is preferential in the [200] direction. The results also indicated that high-temperature solution-phase method could provide another new method for the synthesis of other 1D nanostructures of chalcogenides with unusual shape and structures.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskites with well-defined morphology have attracted attention for their unique properties as a promising new class of semiconductor materials in photovoltaics and optoelectronics. However, controlling morphologies and compositions of perovskite nanostructures with improved stability, especially for double cation lead halide perovskite, still remains a challenge. Here, we demonstrate a colloidal synthetic approach for direct synthesis of stable single crystal formamidinium (FA) cesium double cation lead halide FA(0.33)Cs(0.67)PbBr(3-x)I(x)(0 <= x <= 3) perovskite nanostructures with controllable morphology over a wide range of halide compositions, without using a previous anion-exchange process. The presence of FA alloyed in the A site for the pure cesium lead halide perovskite structure can stabilize the nanocrystals while delivering a better balance between structure and composition. On the basis of the FA(0.33)Cs(0.67)PbBr(3-x)I(x) alloy perovskite system, we achieved nanowires and nanosheets with high yield of various halide compositions by tuning the ligand participating in the reaction. These new perovskite nanostructures with well-defined morphology and compositions demonstrated improved stability and fluorescent and optoelectronic properties, which may allow them to find application as replacements for conventional semiconductor nanostructures in nanoscale devices.

Abstract:Cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3) perovskite nanocrystals are becoming a popular alternative to chalcogenide quantum dots because of their bright green fluorescence and high color purity. However, owing to the poor stability caused by their highly ionic nature and the dynamic binding of long-chain capping ligands, their practical applications are limited. Although (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES) is a frequently used insulating material for wrapping CsPbBr3nanocrystals, it often causes surface etching. To address this issue, we introduced oleic acid into the anti-solvent toluene to inhibit the etching effect of APTES using a modified room-temperature ligand-assisted reprecipitation process. We utilized in situ time-dependent photoluminescence measurements to study the formation kinetics of CsPbBr3nanocrystals and determine the optimal ligands ratio. This innovative approach enables precise control over CsPbBr3@SiO2nanoparticles synthesis, yielding uniformly shaped nanocrystals with a silica shell, a consistent size around 10.17 ± 1.6 nm, and enhanced photoluminescence quantum yields ranging from 90% and 100%. The photoluminescence lifetimes of our CsPbBr3@SiO2nanoparticles were significantly prolonged owing to a reduction in non-radiative recombination. This boosts their stability in thermal and polar solvent environments, making them superior candidates for use in photonic devices.
Rapid synthesis of quantum-confined CsPbBr3 perovskite nanowires using a microfluidic reactor

Abstract:Microfluidics has been considered as an effective platform in the mechanism study and large-scale manufacturing of nanomaterials. In this work, we report the facile synthesis of quantum-confined CsPbBr3 nanowires (NWs) by using a continuous-flow microfluidic reactor. The optimized reaction temperature is around 50 °C, and one "synthesis run" by microfluidics requires only ten minutes. This study reveals that the formation of CsPbBr3 NWs takes place by a hybrid growth mechanism of seed-mediated growth and oriented attachment growth. This microfluidic approach benefits the alignment of the short quantum-confined NWs and promotes their oriented attachment to form long NWs, while conventional flask synthesis results in large and irregular nanorods under the same reaction conditions. This work not only provides a new synthetic path for the preparation of CsPbX3 NWs but also sheds some light on the fundamental study of CsPbX3 NWs.
Water Mediated Synthesis of Phase-Stable Red-Emitting CsPbI3 Nanocrystals

Abstract:With the unusual luminescence and photoconductive characteristics, the CsPbI3 perovskite has attracted a lot of attention in the field of material synthesis and device fabrication. The general synthesis methods of CsPbI3 are through the organic solvent spin-coating and heating. To avoid the toxic organic solvent, herein we reported the organic solvent-free synthesis method. The precursors PbI2 and CsI were solved in aqueous solution and heated to form the CsPbI3 perovskite. It is found that the Na2S2O3 as a reaction additive could enhance the CsPbI3 crystal quality and the synthesis temperature could be lowered down to 80 °C. The content of Pb2+ was increased by combination with S2O32− in Na2S2O3 aqueous solution. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra showed the PL of CsPbI3 perovskite can disappear/recover through absorbing/removing to moisture, respectively. By integrating the CsPbI3 film to the blue diode, we obtained an LED device. Our method provides an innovative strategy to prepare CsPbI3 perovskites in aqueous solution. We reported water mediated synthesis of phase-stable red-emitting CsPbI3 nanocrystals at the reaction temperature as low as 80 °C with the introduced Na2S2O3 additive. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra with could be fully recovered after continuous cycles of moisture absorption and removal. The temperature-dependence PL spectra demonstrated that the CsPbI3 prepared in the presence of Na2S2O3 exhibited the better PL properties and crystal quality compared with that in the absence of Na2S2O3.
Facile hydrothermal synthesis and characterization of cesium-doped PbI2 nanostructures for optoelectronic, radiation detection and photocatalytic applications

Abstract:Low-temperature hydrothermal-assisted synthesis of pure and cesium (Cs) (1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 wt%) doped lead iodide (PbI2) nanorods and nanosheets have been achieved successfully for the first time. The structural and vibrational studies confirm the formation of a 2H-polytypic PbI2 predominantly. Scanning electron microscope analysis confirms the formation of well-aligned nanorods of average size ~ 100 nm at low concentration and nanosheets of average thicknesses in the range of ~ 20–40 nm at higher concentrations of Cs doping. The presence of Cs doping was confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray study. Ultra-violet-visible absorbance spectra were recorded, and energy gap was calculated in the range of 3.33 to 3.45 eV for pure and Cs-doped PbI2 nanostructures which is higher than the bulk value (i.e., ~ 2.27 eV) due to quantum confinement effect. Dielectric constant, loss, and AC conductivity studies have been done. Enhancement in Gamma linear absorption coefficient due to Cs doping confirms the suitability of prepared nanostructures for radiation detection applications. Furthermore, the photocatalytic performance of the synthesized nanostructures was evaluated in the decolorization of methyl green (MG) and methyl orange (MO) under the illumination of visible light (λ > 420 nm). The observed photocatalytic activity for 5 and 7 wt% Cs-doped PbI2 was observed to be more than pure PbI2 and also > 10 times higher than the commercially available photocatalysts. The results suggest that the prepared nanostructures are highly applicable in optoelectronic, radiation detection and many other applications.Graphical abstractᅟ

Abstract:This study reports a simple one‐pot fabrication method to prepare CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) by combining a water bath heating method with surface engineering strategy. CsPbBr3 NCs with high stability and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) are finally synthesized through the common passivation of perovskite nanocrystals by cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and oleylamine (OLA). Although CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) show excellent optoelectronic properties, their stability greatly limits their potential applications due to the ionicity. Stable bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) are achieved by the thermal injection method, which includes adding cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) to a cesium oleate precursor solution. The CTAB as a ligand provides strong binding to the NC surface to effectively passivate the surface defects, and most importantly helps to realize the formation of bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs. The obtained bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs show higher photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) and enhanced moisture and UV illumination stability. These results provide a simple strategy to synthesize bromine‐rich CsPbBr3 NCs, which can be promising for integrating into the synthesize technique of perovskite optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:The single‐crystal mixed‐halide perovskite B‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires are first synthesized by using the electrodeposition method. The obtained B‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires are applied to nanolasers, which show two lasing peaks with a threshold of 277.6 μJ cm−2. These results can promote the development of growth methods for perovskite nanomaterials, which can broaden the applicability of perovskite nanowires in integrated nanophotonic and optoelectronic devices. Exploring new low‐cost and controllable synthesis methods for perovskite nanowires plays an important role in achieving their large‐scale applications. However, there have been no studies on the synthesis of cesium lead halide nanowires using the electrodeposition method. In this study, the single‐crystal mixed‐halide W‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires are first synthesized via a low‐cost and controllable electrodeposition method. The growth process of the W‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires is observed in situ by using a metallurgical microscope. It is found that the W‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires are grown via the oriented attachment of B‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanocubes. More importantly, the mixed‐halide W‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires can transform into single‐crystal B‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires at a moderate annealing temperature. The obtained B‐CsPbI3‐xBrx nanowires are applied to nanolasers, and two lasing peaks are observed at 679 and 675 nm, with a threshold of 277.6 μJ cm−2. These results can promote the development of growth methods for perovskite nanomaterials, which can broaden the applicability of perovskite nanowires in integrated nanophotonic and optoelectronic devices.

High temperature solid reaction synthesis of ultra-stable CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 nano-composites sealed in SiO2 particles

Abstract:Rigid protection layers for the lead-halide perovskite effectively enhance its stability. In this work, for the most vulnerable CsPbI3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs), we introduced zero-dimensional perovskites Cs4PbI6 for protection in addition to already robust SiO2 all-inorganic encapsulation, via high-temperature solid-state synthesis. It is proven that the CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 nano-composite not only maintains the emission peak location of CsPbI3 PeNCs at 700 nm with remarkable oxygen and water resistances, but also exhibits enhanced instant and long-term thermal stability compared with samples containing less amount of Cs4PbI6. The passivation of defects on the interface of CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 contributes to the enhancement of photoluminescence quantum yield by 8%. These ultra stable CsPbI3–Cs4PbI6 nano-composites show potentials in the application of luminous and display industries.

Abstract:A facile solution-phase process has been demonstrated for the selective preparation of single-crystalline bismuth nanowires and nanospheres by reducing sodium bismuthate with ethylene glycol in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) or acetone. Bismuth nanobelts and Bi/Bi2O3 nanocables could be also obtained by changing some reaction parameters. Various techniques such as XRD, EDXA, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, and FT-IR have been used to investigate the physical characteristics of these low-dimensional bismuth nanostructures.
Synthesis of Ultrasmall CsPbBr3 Nanoclusters and Their Transformation to Highly Deep-Blue-emitting Nanoribbons at Room Temperature.

Abstract:Discretely sized semiconductor clusters have attracted considerable attention due to their intriguing optical properties and self-assembly behaviors. While lead halide perovskite nanostructures have been recently intensively explored, few studies have addressed perovskite clusters and their self-assembled superstructures. Here, we report the room-temperature synthesis of sub-2 nm CsPbBr3 clusters and present strong evidence that these ultrasmall perovskite species, obtained under a wide range of reaction conditions, possess a specific size, with optical properties and self-assembly characteristics resembling those of well-known II-VI semiconductor magic-sized clusters. Unlike conventional CsPbBr3 nanocrystals, the as-synthesized CsPbBr3 nanoclusters spontaneously self-assemble into a hexagonally packed columnar mesophase in solution, which can be further converted to single-crystalline CsPbBr3 quantum nanoribbons with bright deep-blue emission at room temperature. Such a conversion of CsPbBr3 nanoclusters to nanoribbons is found to be driven by a ligand-destabilization-induced crystallization and mesophase transition process. Our study will facilitate the investigation of perovskite nanoclusters and offer new possibilities in the low-temperature synthesis of anisotropic perovskite nanostructures.

Abstract:Continuously improving the stability of lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) to meet the requirement of industrialization has been received tremendous attention. Phase structure modulation or matrix protection has been proven to be feasible strategy, but these preparations are still hindered by usage of organic solvent, complex operations, and unsatisfactory batch reproducibility, conflicting with scaled-up production. Here, we have successfully prepared the highly stable cesium lead bromide perovskites with superior luminescence properties (photoluminescence quantum yield, PLQY > 80%) by solid-state synthesis used SiO2 nanospheres as a reaction medium, which present heterostructured-CsPb2Br5/CsPbBr3 (H-CPB, CsPbBr3 NCs embedded into CsPb2Br5 matrixes). Profiting from the dual-phase structure and SiO2 matrix protection, the as-obtained H-CPB shows high stability with a retained PL of above 90% under continuous UV light irradiation, which is significantly higher than the 42% for control sample. Importantly, the proposed method features solvent-free, rapid (within 5 mins), and room-temperature synthesis, which could be used to scale up production evidenced by a batch of 760 g H-CPB powders. The resulting H-CPB perovskite phosphors and commercially available red-emitting phosphor coated on blue GaN chips exhibit tunable color temperature from warm white to cool white, which indicates the H-CPB perovskites have huge potential for practical application.

Abstract:The integration of highly luminescent CsPbBr3 quantum dots on nanowire waveguides has enormous potential applications in nanophotonics, optical sensing, and quantum communications. On the other hand, CsPb2 Br5 nanowires have also attracted a lot of attention due to their unique water stability and controversial luminescent property. Here, the growth of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals on CsPb2 Br5 nanowires is reported first by simply immersing CsPbBr3 powder into pure water, CsPbBr3- γ Xγ (X = Cl, I) nanocrystals on CsPb2 Br5 -γ Xγ nanowires are then synthesized for tunable light sources. Systematic structure and morphology studies, including in situ monitoring, reveal that CsPbBr3 powder is first converted to CsPb2 Br5 microplatelets in water, followed by morphological transformation from CsPb2 Br5 microplatelets to nanowires, which is a kinetic dissolution-recrystallization process controlled by electrolytic dissociation and supersaturation of CsPb2 Br5 . CsPbBr3 nanocrystals are spontaneously formed on CsPb2 Br5 nanowires when nanowires are collected from the aqueous solution. Raman spectroscopy, combined photoluminescence, and SEM imaging confirm that the bright emission originates from CsPbBr3 -γ Xγ nanocrystals while CsPb2 Br5 -γ Xγ nanowires are transparent waveguides. The intimate integration of nanoscale light sources with a nanowire waveguide is demonstrated through the observation of the wave guiding of light from nanocrystals and Fabry-Perot interference modes of the nanowire cavity.
