Abstract:Fracturing is a conventional measure for reservoir transformation and production increase in low-permeability oil fields. However, the challenges of reservoir damage and flowback treatment remain unresolved. Accordingly, we reported the study of a multifunctional small molecule gel that can be directly converted in-situ from a fracturing fluid to an oil displacement agent in this paper. The gel is composed of erucic acid amidopropyl betaine (EAPB), oleic acid amidopropyl betaine (OAPB), and thickening agent. The effects factors, such as ratios and temperatures, on the fracturing effectiveness of the small molecule gel were systematically screened, along with an assessment of its performance in profile-controlled oil displacement. The research results show that this gel shows significant potential as a fracturing fluid, which is due to its viscoelasticity, sand carrying capacity and excellent self-healing performance at high shear rate. Besides, the gel demonstrates ultra-low interfacial tension and wetting reversal characteristics conducive to converse to surfactant oil displacement. The performance of the gel in recovery and profile control was evaluated using single and parallel core flooding experiments, which confirme that the EOO gel can elevate injection pressure in high-permeability core and mobilize fluids in low-permeability core, thus expanding the sweep volume and facilitating enhanced recovery. This work provides an integrated technology of fracturing and oil displacement for the development of low-permeability oil fields.
