Abstract:The traditional high-temperature sintering (HTS) hinders the acquisition of solid electrolytes (SEs) pellets with ideal ionic conductivity due to the volatilization of Li, the generation of secondary phases and thermal cracks. Reducing the sintering temperature holds significant importance for densifying oxide SEs and co-sintering SEs with electrode materials. Herein, densified and fine-grained NASICON-type SEs with high ionic conductivity are prepared through cold sintering process (CSP). The Li1.3Al0.3Ti1.7(PO4)3 (LATP) pellets prepared at 170 °C via CSP undergo subsequently annealing at 750 °C for 1 h to recrystallize the amorphous phase and promoting grain growth and fusion, thus enhancing mechanical strength and ionic conductivity. The resulting LATP electrolytes show limited grain growth and exhibit relative density of ∼100 % and ionic conductivity in excess of 10−3 S cm−1 at 25 °C, as well as display superior electrochemical stability in Li symmetric cells. Compare to HTS, the CSP-assisted annealing method is anticipated to enable the low-temperature densification of SEs and the co-sintering of electrode materials with SEs, offering a viable technical solution for advancing the development and application of all-solid-state batteries.
