Abstract:In order to meet the machining needs of large and complex structural components, as well as the requirements for wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and fatigue resistance in composite industrial production, the blending of SiCp/2A14 composite materials with 2A14 aluminum alloy has become a prevailing trend. SiC-reinforced aluminum-based composite heterogeneous fusion welding can result in significant differences in the melting and solidification degrees of the two materials due to variations in their thermal expansion coefficients and other physical properties. This leads to multi-dimensional non-uniformity in the molten pool. Additionally, SiC readily reacts with Al to form the brittle phase known as Al4C3. 4 C 3 . In order to overcome the current limitations of dissimilar melt welding of SiCp/Al composite with 2A14 aluminum alloy, this study aims to control the thermal energy distribution of the molten pool by adjusting the position of the laser beam bias on the side of the aluminum alloy with appropriate laser heat input. Backscattered SEM and EBSD were used for microstructure characterization to investigate the average grain size anomaly and Al4C3 4 C 3 suppression due to elemental redistribution in dissimilar joint welds. The equivalent circular diameter of the grains was refined from 73.37 mu m to 51.68 mu m. Based on the relationship between rheological stress and melt viscosity in dissimilar joints, this study discusses the impact of weld melt quality on the fracture behavior of the joint. The tensile results show that the average tensile strength of the joint is 272 MPa, achieving a stable connection of SiCp/2A14-2A14 dissimilar laser melt welded joints with excellent performance. This work provides new referable insights into the melt welding forming and performance optimization of dissimilar joints for aluminum-based composite materials.
