Abstract:In this study, nano-PrO1.83 supported carbon catalysts were prepared using a chemical blowing-catalytic carbonization method, wherein PrO1.83 nanoparticles were highly dispersed in a porous carbon matrix. This PrO1.83@C catalyst possesses a high specific surface area and an abundant defect density, which will provide rapid hydrogen migration pathways. In addition, the Mg96La3Ni + x wt. % PrO1.83@C (x = 0, 1, 3, 5, 7) composites were synthesized using ball-milling techniques and their hydrogen storage performance was analyzed by XRD, SEM, TEM, PCT, and DSC measurement. The hydrogenation kinetics of the Mg96La3Ni alloy were significantly improved by adding PrO1.83@C.Among them, the composites with 3 wt % PrO1.83@C show the most superior performance, achieving 74.6.7% hydrogen absorption within 2 min at 320 degrees C. Meanwhile, it also notably decreases the energy barrier for hydrogen desorption to 103.7 kJ mol-1 H2. The phenomenon can be attributed to the synergistic effect resulting from the facilitated hydrogen migration pathway by PrO1.83 nanoparticles and the presence of an active site within the carbon matrix. However, the thermodynamics remain unchanged by the introduction of PrO1.83@C catalysts, which is attributed to no change in the reaction path.
