Abstract:As the rise of China is increasingly accepted as an indisputable fact, its implications for the world have become a focus of international attention. How has the rise of China changed Asia? How should we evaluate its impact? What do we expect its evolution in the future? These are some of the questions the authors of Power Shift: China and Asia's New Dynamics seek to address and just as Ambassador J. Stapleton Roy puts it, have done so ‘admirably’. Most of the contributors agree that the impact of the rise of China on Asia is already quite visible. To begin with, the rise of China has already led to significant changes in regional economic interactions. According to Hideo Ohashi, with rapid and sustained economic growth and increasing interdependence between China and the rest of the region, China is ‘seen as the driving force in regional economic growth in the foreseeable future’ (p. 90). And as Robert Ash demonstrates, Chinese transnational economic linkages within the region have taken shape (p. 112).

Abstract:The second IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) Students Symposium on Power Electronics (SSPEL)—Asia 2024 was successfully held in Hangzhou, China, from 13 to 14 January 2024 with both in-person and virtual attendees. The event was organized through the joint efforts of the IEEE PELS Membership Committee—China (MCC), PELS Zhejiang/Jiangsu/Anhui Chapter, and PELS Zhejiang University Student Branch Chapter (SBC), with technical co-sponsorship of the China Power Supply Society (CPSS), as well as seven SBCs and the IEEE PELS Students and Young Professional (S&YP) Committee. The Symposium attracted 478 students and young professionals from seven countries, including, but not limited to, China, Singapore, and South Korea ( Figure 1 ).

Abstract:In this Introduction to the Special IIssue on Global trading system with the New American Administration: China, United States and Europe, three excellent papers are presented. The first paper highlights the central and eastern European countries' views on their relationships with China in the era of the pandemic. The second paper by Gao and Shaffer (forthcoming) presents a detailed legal discussion on the global value chains, including new development in intellectual property rights laws in China. The third paper by Wen (forthcoming) proposes that China should continue to participate in the global trading system and further reduce unnecessary government interventions in trade, investment and innovation. Finally, the Introduction highlights various important papers published by this Journal that are relevant to the theme. For example, Fung, Aminian, Fu and Tung (2018) and Fung, Amininian, Fu, Rhee and Tung (2020) are the first to introduce a formal, analytical digital firm model in the discussions of U.S.-China relations. Other outstanding papers include Lau (2019a), Cheng, hitten and Hua (2019), Garcia Herrero (2019) and Lin and Wang (forthcoming), all published in this Journal.

Abstract:The 4th Annual Shanghai Symposium on Clinical & Pharmaceutical Solutions through Analysis (CPSA Shanghai 2013) was held on 24-27 April 2013 in Shanghai, China. The meeting provided an educational forum for scientists from pharmaceutical industry, academia, CROs and instrument vendors to share experience and ideas, and discuss current challenges, issues and innovative solutions associated with pharmaceutical R&D. The meeting featured highly interactive events, including diversified symposia, roundtable discussions, workshops, poster sessions and conference awards. Education and specialized training are the foundation of CPSA events. The CPSA Shanghai 2013 meeting also featured an inaugural satellite workshop event in Beijing, as well as joint sessions traditionally held with local bioanalytical and drug metabolism discussion groups.

Abstract:This special issue will investigate the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Hong Kong, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and Chinese communities in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, and in major cities around the world. Recently, the PRC has spread its economic and political influence to the African continent and Latin America, while Taiwan and Singapore have become highly developed nations. In many respects the unique phenomenon of China and the Chinese is a living macromarketing laboratory. This special issue is intended to encourage marketing scientists and scholars from other disciplines to examine macromarketing dimensions of China and Chinese communities. Articles published in the Journal typically address the interplay of marketing and society. Abstract:The diagnostic thinking of Zhang Zhongjing’s pulse doctrine permeates his work “Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet” (Jingui yaolüe) in its every part. In this article the authors present the different methods of pulse diagnosis described by Zhang Zhongjing, namely the taking of the pulse at the three places on the wrist os pollicare (cunkou sanbu), the palpation of the “Yang at the back of the foot” (fuyang), of the minor yin (yin minor, shaoyin) and of the minor yang (yang minor, shaoyang). With citations from “Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet“ (Jingui yaolüe), the authors explain special aspects related to the clinical applications of each method, they describe the circumstances in which Zhang Zhongjing used each of them and they indicate the conclusions he drew from the various pulses he identified at the individual places. In this way he was able to use the pulses identified to determine i.a. the location of the illness and the required therapy, and to give a prognosis.

Abstract:This report serves as a snapshot of the state-of-knowledge in the Asia Pacific (APAC) Hematology Oncology community, and establishes a baseline for longitudinal investigations to follow changes in best practices over time. The objective of this study was to understand the approach to hematologic diseases, common standards of care and best practices, issues that remain controversial or debated, and educational or resource gaps that warrant attention. We used mobile application to disseminate and distribute questionnaires to delegates during the 6th international hematologic malignancies conference hosted by the APAC Hematology Consortium at Beijing, China. User responses were collected in an anonymous fashion. We report survey results in two ways: the overall responses, and responses as stratified between Chinese physicians and "Other" represented nationalities. Overall geographical concordance in survey responses was positive and strong. Perhaps more interesting than instances of absolute agreement, these data provide a unique opportunity to identify topics in which physician knowledge or opinions diverge. We assigned questions from all modules to broad categories of: patient information; diagnosis; treatment preference; transplantation; and general knowledge/opinion. On average, we observed a geographic difference of 15% for any particular answer choice, and this was fairly constant across survey modules. These results reveal utility and need for widespread and ongoing initiatives to assess knowledge and provide evidence-based education in real time. The data will be made more valuable by longitudinal participation, such that we can monitor changes in the state of the art over time.
