Abstract:In large-scale surface-mounted permanent-magnet wind power generators, the concentrated electromagnetic force (CEF) can be utilized to immobilize magnet modules. This means that the CEF on each module should ensure module stability across various operational scenarios. In integral-slot generators, the module typically experiences a smooth CEF due to relatively simple CEF harmonic components. However, this article reveals that the armature field variation results in a fluctuating CEF when one or more three phases are open in multi-three-phase integral-slot generators. During such faulty operations, the fluctuating radial CEF fails to consistently generate a tangential friction force sufficient to counteract the fluctuating tangential CEF. This mismatch can lead to undesirable reciprocation of modules in the tangential direction. For generality, this article performs a quantitively analytical derivation to investigate the characteristics of fault-induced CEF and pinpoint the main contributors among armature field harmonics. To prevent the module from potential movements, a slotting technique on the baseplate is further employed, which can enhance the overall radial CEF. The effectiveness of this approach is validated through experiments.
