Abstract:A series of SO42-/TiO2 solid superacid catalysts was prepared under different conditions. The effect of different preparation conditions on SO42-/TiO2 catalyst was investigated by evaluating the change of crystallinity, chemical structure and acid content of SO42-/TiO2 catalyst. The catalytic performance of SO42-/TiO2 was evaluated by α-pinene isomerization in a continuous fixed bed reactor. When the precipitation agent was ammonia, the concentration of sulfuric acid impregnation solution was 2M, and the calcination temperature was 500°C, the activity of SO42-/TiO2 catalyst reached the maximum, the conversion rate of α-pinene was stable at about 95%, and the selectivity of camphene reached 40%. It was found that the structure and textural properties of SO42-/TiO2 catalyst did not change significantly after regenerated by studying the regenerated performance of SO42-/TiO2 catalyst.

Abstract:Nanometer composite S2O82-/SnO2-TiO2, a novel solid superacid, was prepared by the sol-gel method and its structure was characterized by XRD, TEM, FT-IR and nitrogen adsorption. Results indicated that the composite S2O82-/SnO2-TiO2 had a narrow particle size distribution with an average particle diameter about 15 similar to 20nm. S2O82- combined with SnO2-TiO2 resulted in formation of strong acid sites on the surfaces. The surface area of catalysts obviously increased after incorporating SnO2. Nanometer S2O82-/SnO2-TiO2 composite was used as a catalyst for alpha-pinene isomerization and the influence of catalyst preparation conditions on its performances were investigated. The optimum condition for superacid catalyst preparation was found to be with 2:1 Sn/Ti mole ratio, S2O82- 1 mol L-1 of impregnation consideration and toasting temperature of 773K. With 3% of S2O82-/SnO2-TiO2 catalyst dosage at a reaction temperature at 403K for 2 h, the conversion of alpha-pinene was 98 % and the selectivity to camphene was 62 %.

Abstract:The composite solid oxide super acid Pt-SO4 2- /ZrO2-Al2O3 catalyst was prepared, and its structure, surface properties and catalytic activities for n-butane isomerization reaction were investigated by XRD, XPS, SEM, FT-IR. The results showed that the optimum A12O3 loading in the catalyst made ZrO2 tetragonal phase stable, prevented the transformation of ZrO2 from tetragonal phase to monoclinic phase. Pt doping on SO 4 2- /ZrO2-Al2O3 improved the catalytic activities for n-butane isomerization reaction. When the content of Al was 1.5% in the catalyst, the yield of i-butane was 37%, and its selectivity reached 70% above.

Abstract:In situ C-13 MAS NMR study of C-13-labeled n-butane isomerization on sulfated zirconia (SZ) catalysts shows that the kinetics of n-butane isomerization on SZ catalyst at ambient temperature are well represented by Langmuir-Hinshelwood equation for a reversible first order surface reaction. The calculated isomerization reaction rate constant can be used as a measure of the solid superacidity of the catalysts. The new characterization method reveals that SZ catalysts synthesized from a combined one pot-alcohol thermal-supercritical fluid drying technique not only have high surface area and high sulfate content but their superacidity and isomerization activity are also much higher than those of the conventional SZ catalysts, which is very desirable from the practical point of view.

Abstract:ZSM-5 has emerged as a promising catalyst for iso-butane catalytic cracking due to its unique pore structures and abundant acid sites. And the optimization of catalytic performance has attracted more and more attention. Herein, a series of Pt and Mn-embedded Pt-xMn@HZSM-5 catalysts with different Mn complexes were successfully synthesized via the one-pot hydrothermal method (x refers to the Mn/Pt ratio). The ligand effects of both ethylenediamine and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt on the nature of target samples in terms of crystallinity, porosity, morphology, metal state, and acidity, were investigated in detail. It has been demonstrated that ethylenediamine served as a ligand enabled Pt-xMn@HZSM-5 more metal nanoparticles and acid sites, thereby delivering improved catalytic performance and high yields of ethylene, propylene and BTX (benzene, toluene, and xylene) for iso-butane catalytic cracking.

Abstract:As the activity of different acids for the condensation between toluene and formaldehyde depended on the proporation of its strong acid site, mesoporous zirconia supported sulfate acid was synthesized via the self-assembly method and characterized via XRD, N2-adsorption and HRTEM. The thermal stability of the prepared mesoporous zirconia supported sulfate acids were checked at different calcination temperature. It was found that the structure of mesoporous zirconia remained under 600°C, but damaged at higher temperature. NH3-TPD found that the catalyst calcined at 500°C has the highest acid amount and this catalyst showed the highest activity in the condensation between toluene and formaldehyde. The conversion of formaldehyde reached 45.7%.

Abstract:SBA-15 supported phosphotungstic acid has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions via pH adjustment and characterized with various analytical and spectroscopic techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), N-2 adsorption, transmission electron micrographs(TEM). XRD results indicate that the substitution of tungsten occurs in the silicate framework structure of SBA-15. Study on the catalytic activity of mesoporous PW/SBA-15 catalyst through the isomerization of the a-pinene was investigated. The best reactive conditions of a-pinene isomerization were follows: reaction temperature 130 degrees C, dosage of PW/SBA-15 catalyst 2 %, reactive time 2 h. Then the rate of a- pinene conversion could achieve 94.56 %, the selectivity of camphene could achieve 48.5%.

Abstract:series of fluorinated nanosized HZSM-5 catalysts were prepared by impregnating the zeolite with NH 4 F solution. The samples were characterized by XRD, XRF, FTIR-Py, TPD, 27 Al and 29 Si MAS-NMR. The effect of calcination temperature on the structure and acidity was studied in the range of 400–500 °C. When the calcination temperature increases, more framework aluminum atoms are removed due to the fluorination. As a result, the number of acid sites and the acid strength decrease, but the ratio of the total Brönsted acid sites to the total Lewis acid sites (B T /L T ) increases. The fluorinated nanosized HZSM-5 catalysts exhibit better stability in the methylation of biphenyl (BP) with methanol. Moreover, the stability increases with the increase of the calcination temperature. When the fluorinated nanosized HZSM-5 is calcined at 500 °C, the conversion of BP can keep at about 10% for 50 h. The enhancement of stability may be due to the decrease of the acid strength and the increase of the ratio of B T /L T .

Abstract:TiO2/diatomite photocatalysts were synthesized by a facile Sol-Gel method using diatomite as supporter and tetrabutyl titanate (TBOT) as precursor. The crystalline and morphological properties of catalysts with different calcination temperatures were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Results reveal that the crystallite size becomes larger and the anatase phase transforms to the rutile phase at elevated temperature. Compared with unimmobilized TiO2, the diatomite supporter impedes the transformation and prevents nano-TiO2 particles from aggregation. The effect of calcination temperature on photocatalytic reactivities of these catalysts was investigated by UV-assisted degradation of 10 mg/L Rhodamine B (RhB). The sample calcined at 750℃ exhibits significantly enhanced reactivity with the removal rate of RhB up to about 100% after irradiation for 120 min, equivalent to that of Degussa P25 under similar conditions. The highest photocatalytic activity is observed in TiO2/diatomite calcined under 750℃ which can be attributed to the presence of anatase and rutile phases in an appropriate ratio at 9:1.

Abstract:The composite catalysts of TiO2/SiO2 were prepared though a sol-gel process followed by the calcination crystallization process. The inexpensive precursors, titanium sulfate and fly ash acid sludge, were used as providing titania and silica sources, respectively. The decomposition of fly ash acid sludge was digested with NaOH to extract silica, and the obtained sodium silicate was used to prepare TiO2/SiO2 composite. The effect of calcination temperature on the structure of TiO2/SiO2 composites was studied by means of XRD, BET, FTIR, SEM, photocatalysis and adsorption test. It was found that the anatase-to-rutile phase transition temperature of TiO2/ SiO2 composite powders was significantly higher than that of pure TiO2. The presence of the Ti-O-Si bond was confirmed in the final products when the incorporation of titania into silica were performed. The photocatalytic performance of TiO2/SiO2 composite annealed at different temperatures was evaluated by Rhodamine B (RhB) as the target pollutant under visible-light irradiation. Results indicated that the sample exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity when the calcination temperature is up to 600 degrees C. After 4 h visible-light irradiation, about 90% of RhB was removed by this type of photocatalysts.

Abstract:A series of Fe-doped (0.5%–3%) sulfated zirconia have been prepared by a hydrothermal treatment-assisted process. Textural and structural characterizations of the as-synthesized materials were performed by means of N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and thermogravi- metric analysis. Temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia was used to determine the acidity of the samples. The effects of Fe-doping on the structure, acidity and catalytic activity of sulfated zirconia for liquid-phase α-pinene isomerization were investigated. The incorporation of small amounts of Fe into sulfated zirconia results in the increase of sulfate content and the number of acid sites, which is responsible for the enhanced activity of Fe-doped catalysts in comparison with the undoped one. Meanwhile, hydrothermal treatment helps to improve the activity of the catalyst.

Abstract:Relationship between the catalytic activity and acid strength, and optimum condition for sythesis of terpineol catalyzed by MoO_3/ZrO_2 solid superacid were studied. Results showed that as the acid strength (increased,) the catalytic activity and selectivity of MoO_3/ZrO_2 also increased. MoO_3/ZrO_2 (B) solid superacid was used to catalyze hydration of α-pinene at 80 ℃, mass part of catalyst 8 %, reaction time 8 h, α-pinene∶ solvent∶assistant∶water 1∶1∶1∶2 (mass part) to give α-pinene conversion at 85 %, and selectivity of (α-terpineol) at 68.1 %。

Abstract:The preparation of peroxodisulfated zirconia(PSZ) solid strong acid catalysts is introduced. It showed more active than sulfated zirconia (SZ) for n-butane isomerization at ambient temperature, Peroxodisulfate is the first type of nonhalide found to be more efficient than sulfate which so far has been found the best one promoted zirconia. The optimum calcination temperature is 600 degrees C which is 50 degrees C lower than that of SZ, The conversion of n-butane over PSZ was 50. 4% during 20 h and at 35 degrees C, and 36. 7% over SZ under the same condition. According to X-Ray differential, TEM, BET and chemical analysis, it can be concluded that the formation of superacids over PSZ is similar to that over SZ, It is worth to point out the particle sizes of PSZ calcined between 500 degrees C and 800 degrees C are in the range of nanometers, and the optimum PSZ has both tetragonal and limited monoclinic zirconia.

Abstract:MSU-S(BEA) and MSU-S(Y) mesoporous molecular sieves with different Si/Al ratios were prepared and characterized by XRD, XRF, N2 adsorption, 27Al MAS NMR, NH3-TPD and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-pyridine adsorption. Their catalytic behavior for the liquid phase isomerization of α-pinene has been investigated and compared with conventional zeolites and mesoporous molecular sieves. The activity correlates well with the amount of the accessible acid sites on the catalyst surface. MSU-S(BEA) with Si/Al ratio of 67 has the highest activity in comparison to others. Ninty-seven percent conversion of α-pinene and 91% yield for main products like camphene, limonene, tricylene and terpinolene can be obtained at 70°C. The catalyst is stable and reusable, and the product yield is only reduced by 10% after four runs, which is probably caused by the slow dealumination in the framework wall during the reaction.

Abstract:Highly active solid superacid catalysts for n-butane isomerization, SZ/Al2O3-P, were prepared by supporting SO4 2-/ZrO2 (SZ) on γ-Al2O3 carrier using a precipitation method. The activities of some catalysts were enhanced significantly. The activity of the most active sample, 60%SZ/Al2O3-P, was even about 2 times more active than that of the SZ catalyst.
