Abstract:The combustion of n-pentane on Pt supported on sulfated zirconia-based solid superacids has been studied. The combustion activity is related with the Pt dispersion of the catalyst and the acid strength of the support. Chemisorption of n-pentane on the catalysts has been investigated by means of infrared spectroscopy. The formation of alkane carbocations on the surface sulfates during reaction may account for the enhancement of the combustion activity by the strong acidity of the supports. Abstract:The composite solid oxide super acid Pt-SO4 2- /ZrO2-Al2O3 catalyst was prepared, and its structure, surface properties and catalytic activities for n-butane isomerization reaction were investigated by XRD, XPS, SEM, FT-IR. The results showed that the optimum A12O3 loading in the catalyst made ZrO2 tetragonal phase stable, prevented the transformation of ZrO2 from tetragonal phase to monoclinic phase. Pt doping on SO 4 2- /ZrO2-Al2O3 improved the catalytic activities for n-butane isomerization reaction. When the content of Al was 1.5% in the catalyst, the yield of i-butane was 37%, and its selectivity reached 70% above.

Abstract:The metal oxides CuMnCe and CeY washcoats on cordierite were prepared using an impregnation method, and then used as support for the active Pt component to prepare the Pt/CuMnCe and Pt/CeY monolithic catalysts for the deep oxidation of VOCs. In comparison with the Pt/CeY, CuMnCe, and CeY monolithic catalysts, the Pt/CuMnCe monolithic catalyst shows an excellent performance for toluene, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane oxidation and the T90% is low to 216, 200 and 260 degrees C, respectively. The active components Pt/PtO and CuMnCe result in a better synergetic interaction, which promote the catalyst reducibility, increase the oxygen mobility, and enhance the adsorption and activation of organic molecules. Abstract:Different types of Pt-Co3O4 catalysts were synthesized via metal–organic templates, by changing varying loading forms, stability templates, and pyrolysis temperatures to boost toluene combustion. The regulatory mechanism of strong metal support interaction (SMSI) and the relationship between SMSI and catalytic performance were studied. The results demonstrate that Pt-Co3O4 (PCPO) synthesized using a more stable metal–organic template and an in-situ growth strategy effectively prolonging carbon retention time during the calcination process is most conducive to the formation of SMSI. However, over-formed SMSI can not unconditionally improve the performance of heterogeneous catalysis, and may even hinder the catalytic reaction. Therefore, selecting appropriate preparation conditions to achieve a moderate SMSI is crucial for optimizing the catalytic performance of the supported catalyst. Finally, on Pt-Co3O4, the combustion mechanism of toluene follows both the Langmur-Hinshelwood (L-H) mechanism and Mars-VanKrevelen (MvK) mechanisms. This study provides valuable insights for SMSI in regulating and optimizing the performance of supported catalysts in the field of heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:A series of ZSM-5 zeolite with various cations (H+, Na+, K+, and Cs+) and Si/Al ratios (60, 100, 300, and ∞) supported 0.5 % Pt have been prepared and tested in the combustion of toluene. It is found that Pt/KZSM-5-100 catalyst exhibits excellently high catalytic activity, negligible inhibition effect of H2O, and long catalyst life.

Abstract:Propene combustion is crucial in emission-control applications. A set of Pt/γ-Al2O3 samples were synthesized through either the chemical reduction-deposition method (denoted as RD) or the incipient wetness impregnation method (denoted as IW) and employed for propene combustion. By adjusting the synthesis conditions, Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalysts with diverse Pt nanoparticle size distributions were produced. Due to the reduction in particle size, the Pt-RD catalysts exhibit better catalytic activity than the Pt-IW catalyst. With an average Pt nanoparticle size of 2.93 nm, the 1% Pt-RD3 catalyst exhibited optimal catalytic performance, with a complete C3H6 conversion at 110 °C. A higher proportion of Pt0 was confirmed to be beneficial to propene combustion by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) investigations. Moreover, Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transform Spectroscopy (DRIFTS) analysis demonstrated that Pt0 atoms at edge and corner surface sites participated in C3H6 oxidation as active sites. Extended experiments revealed that the 1% Pt-RD3 catalyst exhibited strong tolerance against water and high oxidation reactivities of other pollutants in vehicle emission. This work provides an effective attempt toward synthesis and applications of Pt-based catalysts for hydrocarbon combustion.

Abstract:Pt/Ce0.5Zr0.5O2 (denoted as Pt/CZ11) and Pt/Al2O3 with identical Pt loading and dispersion were prepared and evaluated for ethane catalytic combustion. Pt/CZ11 exhibited higher activity than Pt/γ-Al2O3 even with similar Pt dispersion. Combined with various characterizations, it was revealed that the enrichments of surface active oxygen and oxygen vacancy on Pt/CZ11 facilitated ethane combustion owing to the strong interaction between Pt and Ce-Zr solid solution. Moreover, in situ DRIFT results demonstrated that different reaction mechanisms were followed over Pt/CZ11 and Pt/Al2O3. The front followed the single-site Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H), in which C2H6 and O2 were absorbed and activated on Pt sites. While the coupled reaction mechanism involving L-H and Mars-van Krevelen (MvK) were illustrated over Pt/CZ11, on which ethane can be activated on Pt sites and CZ11 support. More mechanistic insights into ethane combustion provided the guidelines for the developments of catalysts with superior performance for light-carbon alkane volatile organic compounds.

Abstract:Highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles supported on high-surface-area 3D ordered macroporous (3DOM) Ce0.6 Zr0.3 Y0.1 O2 (CZY) are synthesized via a bubbling cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide/P123-assisted reduction route. The 1.1 wt% Pt/3DOM CZY catalyst shows supercatalytic activity for methane combustion, which is attributed to a higher oxygen adspecies amount, larger surface area, better low-temperature reducibility, and unique nanovoid-walled 3DOM structure.

Abstract:Platinum nanoparticles were synthesized by a classic polyol process in ethylene glycol. The Pt nanoparticles were loaded on H-ZSM5 and γ-Al2O3 supports by wet impregnation. The as-obtained solid was thermally treated in a two-step procedure to remove the organic residues. Due to their larger particle size than the micropore size of H-ZSM5, the impregnated Pt particles were dispersed on the external surface of the zeolite support. With similar Pt particle size distribution and Pt loading, the Pt/H-ZSM5 and Pt/γ-Al2O3 catalysts were evaluated for the oxidation of NO and soot. Despite its lower activity for NO oxidation to NO2, the Pt/H-ZSM5 exhibited a much higher activity for soot oxidation in the presence of NO + O2. This abnormal NOx-assisted soot oxidation behaviour of Pt/H-ZSM5 was explained by the promoting effect of the acid sites on the zeolite.

Abstract:Propane dehydrogenation (PDH) is a commercial propylene production technology that has received much attention, but high reaction temperatures result in a decrease of propylene selectivity and catalyst stability. This paper describes a single-site [PtZn4] catalyst by assembling atomically ordered intermetallic alloy (IMA) as a selective and ultrastable PDH catalyst. The catalyst enables more than 95% of propylene selectivity from 520°C to 620°C. No obvious deactivation is observed within the 160-h test, superior to PtSn/Al2O3 and state-of-the-art Pt-based catalysts. Based on in situ X-ray absorption fine structure, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements, and density functional theory calculations, we reveal that the surface [PtZn4] ensembles in PtZn IMAs serve as the key active site structures, wherein the geometry-isolated and electron-rich Pt1 site in [PtZn4] ensembles readily promotes the first and second C–H cleavage of propane but inhibits further dehydrogenation of surface-bounded propylene. This significantly improves the selectivity and stability by prohibiting coke side reactions.

Abstract:Ce0.8 Zr0.2 O2 supported Pt catalyst was arranged as packed-bed in micro-cylindrical quart tube to investigate premixed n-heptane/air catalytic combustion characteristics, including catalytic activity, combustor wall temperature, maximum tube wall temperature, conversion rate and surface heat loss.Catalytic activity experimental results show that ignition temperature of n-heptane in Φ=0.5 is 452 K, and catalytic combustion can be achieved under 500 K.In self-sustaining experiment, maximum wall temperature shifts downstream and high temperature zone expands.Maximum tube wall temperature of Φ=0.5 and 1 experience sharp drop in Re=125.Results indicate that When Re is fixed, working condition of Φ=1 acquires higher maximum wall temperature and conversion rate, lower surface heat loss than that of Φ=0.5, which means working condition of Φ=1 is more suitable in micro-combustors.
