Abstract:For quasilinear hyperbolic systems with time-periodic boundary conditions possessing a dissipative structure, the existence, uniqueness and stability of the time-periodic classical solutions are proved. Moreover, the feedback boundary control with dissipative structure can stabilize the system around the time-periodic solution, provided that the time-periodic boundary conditions are W-2,W-infinity smooth. Abstract:We consider the temporal periodic solutions to general nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic equations with a kind of weak diagonal dominant structure. Under the temporal periodic boundary conditions, the existence, stability and uniqueness of the time-periodic classical solutions are obtained.Moreover, the W2, regularity and stability around the time-periodic solutions are discussed. Our results reveal that the feedback boundary control with dissipative structure can stabilize the K-weakly diagonally dominant nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic system around the temporal periodic solution.

Abstract:A kind of partially dissipative quasilinear hyperbolic systems in which a part of equations possesses the strict dissipation and the others are weakly linearly degenerate are discussed. Under some weaker hypotheses on the interactions between two parts of equations, it is proved that for any given initial data with small W-1,W-1 and C-1 norms, the corresponding Cauchy problem admits a unique C-1 global classical solution. Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the existence, uniqueness and asymptotic stability of global piecewise [Formula: see text] solution to the mixed initial-boundary value problem for 1-D quasilinear hyperbolic systems on a tree-like network. Under the assumption of boundary dissipation, when the given boundary and interface functions possess suitably small [Formula: see text] norm, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of global piecewise [Formula: see text] solution. Moreover, when they further possess a polynomial or exponential decaying property with respect to [Formula: see text], then the corresponding global piecewise [Formula: see text] solution possesses the same or similar decaying property. These results will be used to show the asymptotic stability of the exact boundary controllability of nodal profile on a tree-like network.

Abstract:For 1-D quasilinear hyperbolic systems, the strict dissipation or the weak linear degeneracy can prevent the formation of singularity. More precisely, if all the inhomogeneous sources are strictly dissipative, or all the characteristics are weakly linearly degenerate and the system is homogeneous, then the Cauchy problem with small and decaying initial data admits a unique global classical solution. In this paper, under some suitable hypotheses on the interaction, new kinds of weighted formulas of wave decomposition are developed to show the same result for a general class of combined systems, in which a part of equations possesses the strict dissipation and the others are weakly linearly degenerate. Abstract:It is not yet known if the global attractor of the space-periodic 2D Navier-Stokes equations contains non-stationary solutions u(x, t) such that their energy and enstrophy per unit mass are constant for every t is an element of (-infinity, infinity). The study of the properties of such solutions was initiated in [6], where, because of the hypothetical existence of such solutions, they were called "ghost solutions." In this work, we introduce and study geometric structures shared by all ghost solutions. This study leads us to consider a subclass of ghost solutions for which those geometric structures have a supplementary stability property. In particular, we show that the wave vectors of the active modes of this subclass of ghost solutions must satisfy certain supplementary constraints. We also discover a computational way to check for the existence of these ghost solutions.

Abstract:This paper concerns autonomous boundary value problems for 1D semilinear hyperbolic PDEs. For time-periodic classical solutions, which satisfy a certain non-resonance condition, we show the following: If the PDEs are continuous with respect to the space variable x and C ∞ -smooth with respect to the unknown function u, then the solution is C ∞ -smooth with respect to the time variable t, and if the PDEs are C ∞ -smooth with respect to x and u, then the solution is C ∞ -smooth with respect to t and x. The same is true for appropriate weak solutions. Moreover, we show examples of time-periodic functions, which do not satisfy the non-resonance condition, such that they are weak, but not classical solutions, and such that they are classical solutions, but not C ∞ -smooth, neither with respect to t nor with respect to x, even if the PDEs are C ∞ -smooth with respect to x and u. For the proofs we use Fredholm solvability properties of linear time-periodic hyperbolic PDEs and a result of E. N. Dancer about regularity of solutions to abstract equivariant equations.

Abstract:The author considers the life-span of classical solutions to Cauchy problem for general first order quasilinear strictly hyperbolic systems in two independent variables with "slow" decay initial data. By constructing an example, first it is illustrated that the classical solution to this kind of Cauchy problem may blow up in a finite time, even if the system is weakly linearly degenerate. Then some lower bounds of the life-span of classical solutions are given in the casethat the system is weakly linearly degenerate. These estimates imply that, when the system is weakly linearly degenerate, the classical solution exists almost globally in time. Finally, it is proved that Theorems 1.1-1.3 in [2] are still valid for this kind of initial data.
