Abstract:We study the time-periodic solutions to systems of conservation laws with ellipticity. It is shown that under time-periodic boundary condition, the system admits at least one global time-periodic solution bounded uniformly with the same period.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Moreover, the feedback boundary control with dissipative structure can stabilize the system around the time-periodic solution, provided that the time-periodic boundary conditions are W-2,W-infinity smooth. By applying a generalized linking theorem of strongly indefinite functionals, we obtain the existence of multiple semiclassical solutions for the above system.

Abstract:We consider the temporal periodic solutions to general nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic equations with a kind of weak diagonal dominant structure. Under the temporal periodic boundary conditions, the existence, stability and uniqueness of the time-periodic classical solutions are obtained.Moreover, the W2, regularity and stability around the time-periodic solutions are discussed. Our results reveal that the feedback boundary control with dissipative structure can stabilize the K-weakly diagonally dominant nonhomogeneous quasilinear hyperbolic system around the temporal periodic solution.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for a class of complex conservation laws, which is introduced by P.D. Lax and essentially a class of quasilinear hyperbolic systems in two space dimensions. For a kind of flux functions, we prove the global existence of smooth solutions to the Cauchy problem with small initial data. On the other hand, for different kinds of flux functions, we give some estimates on the lower bound of the life span of smooth solutions.

Abstract:It is not yet known if the global attractor of the space-periodic 2D Navier-Stokes equations contains non-stationary solutions u(x, t) such that their energy and enstrophy per unit mass are constant for every t is an element of (-infinity, infinity). The study of the properties of such solutions was initiated in [6], where, because of the hypothetical existence of such solutions, they were called "ghost solutions." In this work, we introduce and study geometric structures shared by all ghost solutions. This study leads us to consider a subclass of ghost solutions for which those geometric structures have a supplementary stability property. In particular, we show that the wave vectors of the active modes of this subclass of ghost solutions must satisfy certain supplementary constraints. We also discover a computational way to check for the existence of these ghost solutions.

Abstract:The non-isentropic Euler system with periodic initial data in \({{\mathbb{R}}^1}\) is studied by analyzing wave interactions in a framework of specially chosen Riemann invariants, generalizing Glimm’s functionals and applying the method of approximate conservation laws and approximate characteristics. An \({{\mathcal O}(\varepsilon^{-2})}\) lower bound is established for the life span of the entropy solutions with initial data that possess \({\varepsilon}\) variation in each period.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the properties of the set of T-periodic solutions of semi-explicit parametrized Differential-Algebraic Equations with non-autonomous constraints of a particular type. We provide simple, degree theoretic conditions for the existence of branches of T-periodic solutions of the considered equations. Our approach is based on topological arguments about differential equations on implicitly defined manifolds, combined with elementary facts of matrix analysis.

Existence of Periodic Solution for Semi-linear Second-order Differential Equations

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the existence of periodic solutions for a class of semilinear second-order differential equations. The difficulty of traditional methods lies in a mass of detailed estimates. By applying the viscosity solutions method and the classical upper-lower solutions method, as well as the Leray-Schauder fixed point principle, we establish the existence of periodic solutions to the equation under some weaker conditions. Our result improves and generalizes many results on the ropes mechanics equations in the previous literature.

We obtain a degree theoretic condition ensuring a "global branching" result for the nontrivial periodic solutions. The argument stems from a combination of techniques from the theory of topological degree and differential‐algebraic equations. As an application, the set of harmonic solutions of periodically perturbed implicit differential equations is investigated.

Abstract:We study the Cauchy problem for a set of nonlinear evolution equations, which has been proposed for the investigation of nonlinear interaction between ellipticity and dissipation. The zero equilibrium is linearly stable for coefficients within certain range. We further establish the global existence, nonlinear stability, and optimal decay rate of the solution for coefficients within the same range, though, with suitable restriction to initial data.
