Abstract:This study describes a catalyst-free α-acyloxylation of ketones and a KBr-mediated α-acyloxylation of cyclic ethers. These conversions are effectively mediated by hypervalent iodine(III) reagents serving dual roles as the oxidant and nucleophilic source. Consequently, esters are produced directly in moderate to excellent yields. The proposed method features good functional group compatibility, a broad substrate scope, and high synthetic efficiency and is remarkably environmentally friendly.

Abstract:Under neutral reaction conditions, aromatic ketones were transformed into the corresponding a.-iodo ketones in high yields by the combination of copper(II) oxide and iodine. The reaction mechanism showed that copper(II) oxide played multiple roles through random self-sorting.

Abstract:Iodine-mediated intermolecular C-N and C-I bond formation of alkenes is described. A series of alkenes could be selectively converted into the corresponding aminoiodination products, which are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Wide substrate scope, broad functional group tolerance and easy scale-up operation make this protocol very practical and attractive in synthetic chemistry.

Abstract:A novel method for the organocatalytic syn diacetoxylation of alkenes has been developed using aryl iodides as efficient catalysts. A broad range of substrates, including electron-rich as well as electron-deficient alkenes, are smoothly transformed by the new procedure, furnishing the desired products in good to excellent yields with high diastereoselectivity (up to >19:1 dr).

Abstract:Monosubstituted acetylenes were iodinated to form iodoacetylenes under simple conditions. Reaction of aryl acetylenes with molecular iodine in the presence of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) gave the desired products in good to excellent yields. Iodination of aryl acetylenic ketones using K2CO3 as base was also described.

Abstract:The novel carbon-based acid catalyst has been applied to catalyzing the acetalization and ketalization. The results showed that the catalyst was very efficient with the average yield over 93%. The novel heterogeneous catalyst has the advantages of high activity, wide applicability even to 7-membered ring acetals, strikingly simple workup procedure, non-pollution, and reusability, which will contribute to the green process greatly.

Abstract:The novel efficient procedure has been developed for the oxathioacetalization of carbonyl compounds and 2-mercaptoethanol using the novel carbon-based sulfonic acid as catalyst under solvent-free condition at room temperature. The results showed that the novel catalyst was very efficient for the reactions with good to excellent yields in short time. The novel catalyst owned many advantages such as operational simplicity, without need of any solvent, small amount of usage, low cost of the catalyst used, high yields, applicability to large-scale reactions, reusability and chemoselectivity over the traditional catalysts, which made the catalyst one of the best choices for the reactions.

Abstract:Herein, we divulge an efficient protocol for aerobic oxidation of alcohols with an inorganic-ligand supported iodine catalyst, (NH4)5[IMo6O24]. The catalyst system is compatible with a wide range of groups and exhibits high selectivity, and shows excellent stability and reusability, thus serving as a potentially greener alternative to the classical transformations.

Abstract:This paper describes a mild and efficient catalytic deprotection method for isopropylidene ketals and benzylidene acetals using AcOH/H 2 O/DME(1,2-Dimethoxyethane). The method effectively removes ketal and acetal protecting groups from 2-deoxyglycosides which are prone to hydrolysis under acidic conditions. Moreover, it enables the selective removal of the terminal ketal over an internal one.

Abstract:An iridium-catalyzed, highly efficient, and site-selective deoxygenation of primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols has been realized, under the assistance of a 4-(N-substituted amino)aryl directing group. Only the hydroxyl adjacent to the directing group can be deoxygenated. The deoxygenation is performed in water, with formic acid as both the promoter and hydride donor. Excellent yields and functionality tolerance, as well as high efficiency (S/C up to 1 000 000, TOF up to 445 000 h–1), are obtained. The kinetic isotope effect studies show that hydride formation is the rate-determining step, and the deoxygenation follows an SN1-type pathway. The deoxygenation protocol has been demonstrated useful in the structural modification of naturally occurring ketones and steroids.

Abstract:A binary hybrid system comprising a hypervalent iodine(III) reagent and BF3•OEt2 Lewis acid was found to be effective for the diastereoselective α-acetoxylation of cyclic ketones. In this hybrid system, BF3•OEt2 Lewis acid allowed the activation of the hypervalent iodine(III) reagent and cyclic ketones for smooth α-acetoxylation reaction, achieving high diastereoselectivity. This hypervalent iodine-mediated α-acetoxylation of the cyclic ketone reaction plausibly undergoes an SN2 substitution mechanism via an α-C-bound hypervalent iodine intermediate. The diastereoselectivity of the reaction mainly originates from thermodynamic control.
