Abstract:Mass customization will be as important to business in the twenty- first century as mass production was in the twentieth which has a close relationship with the e-commerce, since e-commerce provides a convenient and fast way for customers to request their personalized product. The aim of this paper is to present the architecture and system model of mass customization based on e-commerce between customer, manufacturer and supply chain. Abstract:Mass Customization is a new kind of product mode that satisfying individual customers' needs while keeping mass production efficiency, such as time to market, low cost and high quality. On the basis of the introduction of the product mode evolution, the paper presented that mass customization is the prevailing product mode of 21 century. And analyzed the connotation of mass customization from the point of target integrated optimization. Then studied on the philosophy of mass customization by dividing it into four levels. The paper discussed the actualization of mass customization on the aspects of advanced technology, advanced management and advanced staff in the end.

Abstract:Recent changes in the product creation process have shown reductions in design and manufacturing time and costs due to the introduction of new manufacturing philosophies, and computer based methods. Major improvements have also been found in the distribution phase by use of sophisticated logistic scheduling and monitoring systems. However reductions in delivery costs and times look set to be reversed by increasing congestion on road/rail/air routes. The growth of the Internet and World Wide Web has created new opportunities and most organizations are introducing some form of e-commerce. The term e-manufacturing is now being used to describe attempts to optimize the use of manufacturing facilities by allowing interaction with, and control of, these facilities from geographically distant locations, typically using the Internet/www as the communication medium. This approach uses the conventional ‘model’ of manufacturing. Although the removal of some problems – e.g. those due to time-zones or language – can lead to performance gains, problems associated with delivery remain due to the increased distances to customers. In order to overcome the inherent limitations of the conventional approach and create true e-manufacture, a new approach is required which utilizes existing and emergent technologies to devolve the manufacturing process closer to the customer and thus avoid long distance distribution problems. Possible benefits of this approach include the potential for true mass customization (‘individualization’), elimination of logistical problems, reduction of waste and requirements for working capital, and the creation of new global markets.

Abstract:After the main problems in the Mass Production of Custom-tailor Apparel (MPoCtA) are analyzed, the architecture of the integrated information system based on network for the mass production is put forward, and main business processes related to the integration and its shared data and information are discussed. Then rule-based knowledge base techniques in MPoCtA and its practice in the automatic transformation of apparel pattern are elaborated. Finally, a system of custom-tailor apparel in one company is introduced, which integrates the design, production and distribution. The accuracy of transformation of apparel pattern in this system reached 90%.

Abstract:For realization of apparel mass customization,it has to span multiple enterprises in the supple chain.This paper makes a research on the supply chain management for apparel mass customization which analyzes the features of the supple chain management for apparel mass customization,and compares the differences between the supply chain for apparel mass production and the supply chain for apparel mass customization in terms of driving mode,dependence on IT,etc.Thus,the apparel supply chain models for the two different production modes are suggested.The information system and advanced management method of the supply chain management for apparel mass customization are discussed.

Abstract:Customized/personalized products are gaining more shares in today’s product market. Such products need collective efforts from consumers, manufacturers and third parties. This requirement has not been well addressed due to both market and technology factors. On the other hand, the Internet of Things (IoT) provides real-time sensing/actuating ability and fast transmission capability of data/information, so that remote operation of manufacturing activities and efficient collaboration among stakeholders are greatly facilitated. This provides great opportunities to address the requirement mentioned above. Thus we propose a full-connection model of product design and manufacturing in the IoT-enabled cloud manufacturing environment. The proposed model uses social networks to connect multiple parties and facilitate open innovations, and use IoT to glue physical space to cyber space and cloud manufacturing to provide various elastic services, so that the on-demand workspace, interaction, information sharing or collective problem solving are enabled. We also propose a supporting infrastructure for this model using the latest information and communication technologies. Finally, we present a case study of an RFID enabled production system for customized and personalized product with the ability to enable a new paradigm of “dynamic processes and close collaborations among different roles” and ensure robust production.

Abstract:Consumer‐driven mass customization is an important direction for the transformation and upgrading of Chinese manufacturing enterprises .The existing research has not deeply investi‐gated how to realize mass customization gradually .This paper ,based on the perspective of value co‐creation theory ,uses standard case study method to systematically reveal the causes ,process and results of mass customization evolution ,through analyzing a series of critical events in the development of the Shang Pin Home Delivery Company .T he study finds that :the case enterprise has experienced four stages of evolution ;external pressure and internal motivation interact to drive value co‐creation ,w hile value co‐creation based on interaction and experience has acceler‐ated the realization of mass customization ;the evolution paths of mass customization present dis‐crepancies in customization size , customization variety , customization links and customization ability ;value co‐creation presents different characteristics in different stages of the interaction be‐tween the subjects ,the interactive steps ,interaction contents and user experience .In this paper , the evolution process model of mass customization from the perspective of value creation has important reference value to the transformation of mass customization for Chinese manufacturing enterprises .

Abstract:Mass Customization (MC) is essentially that manufacturers and customers cooperate either to design or to assemble a customized product or service through flexible processes. It is becoming one of the main production models in the 21(st) century. Compared with traditional mass production, mass customization involves in a large amount of information and need a mechanism to manage and control information flow among the collaborative business units. This article, based on mechanical manufacturing, analyzes the information management requirement in mass custornization and presents the design and implementation of an enterprise management information system for mass custornization (MCEMIS). An object-oriented system model is established to support the system integration. A prototype system which consists of three modules is developed to allow customers to interact conveniently with manufacturers and support mass custornization production of manufacturer. It makes enterprise keep a good relationship with customers and escalates the enterprise's product development and management level as well as competition ability.

Abstract:The formation of mass customization competencies is crucial for the increasing number of manufacturing companies in modern times. This study assessed the relationship between mass customization capability and its determinants on sustainable performance. Additionally, it explores the mediating role of mass customization capability and sustainable performance, while also examining the moderating effects of firm size and cross-border eCommerce in these associations. The study used online survey data from 339 manufacturing small-to-medium-sized enterprises in China to test the hypothesized relationships. The collected data were analyzed using partial least square structural equation modeling and necessary condition analysis. The results indicated that flexible manufacturing competencies, modular product architecture, and customer relationship management are significantly and positively connected to mass customization capability. Moreover, the study observed that mass customization capability and competitive pressure have a significant positive influence on the sustainable performance of Chinese manufacturing SMEs. The findings also revealed that firm size and cross-border e-commerce engagement have a negative and positive moderating effect, respectively, between mass customization capability on sustainable performance, which confirms a relatively higher effect of customization capability on sustainable performance among smaller firms and firms engaged in cross-border eCommerce. Fundamentally, these findings can lead to the development of a comprehensive framework to promote mass customization capability, cross-border e-commerce, and sustainable development of manufacturing small-to-medium-sized enterprises China.

Abstract:According to the shortcomings of Market Turbulence Map, the paper presents four basic implementation conditions for manufacturing enterprises to transform from mass production paradigm to mass customization paradigm which include market, technology, management and personal. Different operation modes for Internet-based mass customization are studied. It further analyzes the agent mode of customization, and points out that agent mode of mass customization is an efficient mode which represents the win-win-win relationship between customization enterprise, customers and customization agent. It points out that the basic strategy for mass customization lies in the integration of modular design and postponing customization. Finally, future research topics are presented.
