Abstract:A new steroidal glycoside (1), (25R)-14α, 17α-hydroxyspirost-5-en-3β-yl 3-O-α-L-rhamnpyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-β-D-glucopyranoside, together with three known steroidal glycosides, (25R)-3β-hydroxyspirost-5-en-1β-yl-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 3)-α-L-arabinopyranoside (2), Cixi-ophiopogon B (3) and Cixi-ophiopogon A (4), were obtained from the tuberous roots of Ophiopogon japonicus (Liliaceae). Compound 2 was isolated from the Ophiopogon genus for the first time. Their structures were identified on the basis of extensive mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis.

Abstract:A novel cerebroside named dicliptercerebroside (1) was isolated from the whole herb of Dicliptera chinensis, together with two known compounds asperglaucide (2) and amidoalcohol (3) for the first time from the title plant. Their structures were elucidated using spectroscopic methods. The structure of dicliptercerebroside was determined as 1-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-2N-[(2'R)-2'-hydroxy-(9Z)-palmitoleoyl]-2S,3S,4R-C(20)-phytosphingosine.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation of the roots of Symplocos caudata Wall (Symplocaceae) resulted in the isolation and characterization of two optical isomers of a neolignan glycoside (1) and a new cerebroside (2). Their structures were elucidated as (7R,8S)-erythro-7,9,9'-trihydroxy-3,3',5'-trimethoxy-8-O-4'-neolignan-4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, (7S,8R)-erythro-7,9,9'-trihydroxy-3,3',5'-trimethoxy-8-O-4'-neolignan-4-O-β-Dglucopyranoside (1), and 1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(2S,3S,4R,8Z,12E)-2-N-[(2'R)-2'-hydroxyheptacosanoyl]-8,12-docosadiene-1,3,4-triol (2), respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR, MS and CD).

Abstract:A new indole alkaloidal glucoside together with three known compounds aurantiamide acetate (2), eleutheroside E (3) and 1-O-caffeoyl-β-D-glucopyranoside (4) has been isolated from ethanol extract of the aerial parts of Clematis terniflora DC. On the basis of their spectroscopic and chemical evidence, the new compound was elucidated as (6-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-1H-indol-3-yl) carboxylic acid methyl ester (1). Compounds 1 and 3 showed significant cytotoxicity against human ECA-109.

Abstract:Three new triterpenoid derivatives, named (15 alpha)-15-hydroxysoyasapogenol B (1), (7 beta,15 alpha)-7,15-dihydroxysoyasapogenol B (2), and (7 beta)-7,29-dihydroxysoyasapogenol B (3), were isolated from cultures of the plant endophytic fungus Pestalotiopsis clavispora. Their structures and relative configurations were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis and X-ray crystallography.

Abstract:Polygalasterol A (1), a new sterol sulfate, and a new oligosaccharide ester, polygalasibiricose 1 (2), have been isolated from the n-butanol soluble fraction of the aerial parts of Polygala sibirica L.. Abstract:From the marine bryozoan Bugula neritina inhabiting South China Sea, a new ceramide named (2S,3R,4E)-2-(14'-methyl-pentadecanoylamino)-4-octadecene-1,3-diol (1) and a new cerebroside named 1-O-(beta-D-glucopyranosyl)-(2S,3R,4E)-2-(heptadecanoylamino)-4-octadecene-1,3-diol (6), together with one known ceramide (2) and three known cerebrosides (3, 4, and 5), were isolated. Their structures were deduced by extensive spectral analysis and chemical evidences. Compound 1 is branched with a methyl [-CH(CH3)(2)] in the fatty acid moiety, which is a rare structural feature among ceramides. Compound 6 is a new cerebroside with 17 carbons in the fatty acid moiety, while 5 is a new natural product which was isolated from a natural origin for the first time.

Abstract:A galactocerebroside (BAC-4-4a) was obtained from its parent galactocerebroside molecular species (BAC-4) by using two types of reversed-phase HPLC column. The parent cerebroside BAC-4 has been isolated from less polar lipid fraction of CHCl(3)/MeOH extract of sea cucumber Bohadschia argus, together with known typical types of glucocerebroside molecular species. The structure of BAC-4-4a was determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidences as 1-O-(beta-D-galactopyranosyl)-(2S,3R,4E)-2[(2'R,15'Z)-2-hydroxytetracosenoylamino]-4-heptadecene-1,3-diol. This is the first report of isolation and structure determination of galactocerebroside from sea cucumber.

Abstract:Two new acylated presenegenin glycosides E-onjisaponin H (5) and Z-onjisaponin (6) together with seven known saponins were isolated from the roots of Polygala tenuifolia Willd. Abstract:AIM: To investigate the chemical constituents of the roots of Polygala sibirica L. (Polygalaceae)METHOD: The isolation was performed by solvent extraction and various chromatographic techniques, including silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS, semi-preparative 1-1PLC, and preparative TLC. The chemical structures were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic analysis, including HR-ESI-MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopic data.RESULTS: A total of sixteen compounds, including five xanthones (5, 7-10), five saccharide esters (1, 3, 4, 12, 13), two Rayonoids (14, 16), two triterpenoids (11, 15), one phenylpropanoid (6), and one benzophenone glycoside (2) were isolated. Their structures were determined as sibiricose A7 (1), sibiriphenone A (2), polygalatenoside A (3), polygalatenoside C (4), lancerin (5), 3, 4, 5-trimethoxycinnamic acid (6), 6-hydroxy-1, 2, 3, 7-tetramethoxyxanthone (7), 1, 3, 7-trihydroxy-2-methoxyxanthone (8), onjixanthone 11 (9), 1, 2, 3, 6, 7-pentamethoxyxanthone (10), presenegenin (11), 3-0-3, 4, 5-trimethoxycinnamoy1-6-0-4-methoxy benzoyl sucrose (12), tenuifoliside C (13), 5, 3'-dihydroxy-7, 4'-dimethoxyfiavono1-3-0-,3-D-glucopyranoside (14), tenuifolin (15), and rhamnetin 3-0-,8-D-glucopyranoside (16).CONCLUSION: Compounds 1 and 2 are two new compounds from P. sibirica.

Abstract:Two new megastigmane glycosides, 7Z-roseoside, and 7Z-trifostigmanoside I, as well as, four known compounds, trifostigmanoside II, epimedin C, 3', 7-dihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavone-7-D-glucopyranoside, and formenonetin, were isolated from Polygala hongkongensis Hemsl. The structures of the isolated compounds were established on the basis of UV, IR, NMR, and MS spectral data. Megastigmane glycosides( 1-3 ) were isolated from the family Polygalaceae for the first time.

Abstract:Five new triterpenoid saponins, named as sibiricasaponins A–E (1–5), were isolated and identified from the aerial parts of Polygala sibirica L., together with nine known triterpenoid saponins (6–14). The chemical structures of the five new triterpenoid saponins (1–5) were elucidated as 3β,19α-dihydroxyurso-12-ene-23,28-dioic acid 3-O-β-d-glucuronopyranoside (1), pomolic acid 3-O-(3-O-sulfo)-α-l-arabinopyranoside (2), pomolic acid 3-O-(4-O-sulfo)-β-d-xylopyranoside (3), pomolic acid 3-O-(2-O-acetyl-3-O-sulfo)-α-l-arabinopyranoside (4), and 3-O-β-d-glucopyranosyl medicagenic acid 28-O-β-d-galactopyranosyl (1→4)-β-d-xylopyranosyl (1→4)-α-l-rhamnopyranosyl (1→2)-(4-O-acetyl)-[β-d-apiofuranosyl (1→3)]-β-d-fucopyranosyl ester (5), respectively, on the basis of spectroscopic data and physicochemical evidences. These isolated compounds (1–14) were evaluated for their anti-ischemic effects on oxygen/glucose deprivation (OGD) model in vitro, and only compound 7 showed a weak anti-ischemia effect, with EC50 value of 46.7μM.
