Abstract:A novel transition-metal-free tandem radical thiocyanooxygenation of olefinic amides with potassium thiocyanate has been developed under mild conditions. This method allows a reliable and practical access to diverse SCN-containing heterocycles bearing a wide range of functional groups in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, this tandem reaction provides a simple method for the construction of C-O and C-S bonds in one step.

Abstract:Numerous electrophilic thiocyano oxyfunction-alization reactions of alkenes have been achieved using N-thiocyano-dibenzenesulfonimide, which is a new electrophilic thiocyanation reagent and could be easily prepared in two steps from dibenzenesulfonimide. This approach provides efficient, simple, and modular methods for the formation of SCN-containing heterocycles such as lactones, tetrahydrofurans, dihydrofurans, and dihydrobenzofurans in moderate to excellent yields. Meanwhile, diverse oxa-quaternary centers were rapidly constructed. Additionally, this protocol is free of transition metals and features broad substrate toleraance and mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:A tandem electrophilic thiocyanation and cyclization of arene-alkynes has been developed under mild conditions, affording thiocyanato-substituted phenanthrenes, dihydronaphthalenes, 2H-chromenes and dihydroquinolines in moderate to excellent yields. This reaction provides an efficient protocol for the construction of C-SCN and C-C bonds in one step. In this transformation, N-thiocyanato reagent serves as a convenient precursor to transfer SCN+ in the presence of trimethylchlorosilane, and the cyclization exhibited exclusive 6-endo-dig selectivity. Finally, a gram scale reaction and further derivatizations highlight the utility of this synthetic strategy.

Abstract:A new thiocyanation/cyclization reaction was developed to synthesize thiocyanato-containing oxygen heterocyclic compounds with terminal and non-terminal enols. The approach supplies an efficient method to build the multi-substituted ring and spiro ring structure of furan, which has a wide range of substrates, good functional group tolerance, and the desired products can be obtained in a medium to high yield.

Abstract:The first direct thiocyanation of ketene dithioacetals has been accomplished in the presence of N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) and NH4SCN under transition-metal-free conditions. The operationally simple one-pot procedure, which is insensitive to air, was found to be well-tolerated by a wide range of substrates. Terminal alkenes and hydrazine were identified to be qualified candidates for the process as well. Furthermore, the product could be successfully transformed into synthetically and biologically interesting -SCF3 substituted N-heteroaromatic compounds and thiotetrazole containing compounds.

Abstract:An unprecedented one-pot route to achieve highly regioselective 1-sulfur-functionalized 2-nitrogen-functionalized alkenes and 2-thiocyanate indolines from unsymmetrical ynamides (readily and generally available amides) using the commercially available inexpensive iodobenzene diacetate (PIDA) as the oxidant and potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) as the thiocyanate (SCN) source has been developed. The interconversion of thiocyanate (SCN) and isothiocyanate (NCS) groups simultaneously forms C–N and C–S bonds in this metal-free approach, while introducing important functional groups into homemade alkynes. A radical-chain mechanism, involving competing kinetically controlled chain transfer at the S atom and sterically-controlled chain transfer at the N atom of the thiocyanogen molecule in this mild approach, is proposed.

Abstract:A rapid and efficient acid-promoted strategy to access allylic thiocyanates using allylic alcohols as substrates and easily-available NH4SCN as the thiocyanate source is presented under metal- and oxidant-free conditions. Through screening of various kinds of acids, organic and strong trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) was found most effective. Testing of substrates showed that the strategy has remarkable functional group tolerance. A possible mechanism is provided, and the gram-scale experiment demonstrate that this novel protocol has potential industrial application value.

Abstract:Organic thiocyanates widely exist in natural products, and act as important precursors for organic synthesis. An efficient dithiocyanation of alkynes with N‐thiocyanato‐dibenzenesulfonimide (NTSI) as the SCN+ cation and ammonium thiocyanate as the SCN‐ anion sources has been developed. Highly active electrophilic reagent NTSI could react with various types of alkynes to build C(sp2)−SCN bond to provide a variety of dithiocyanato olefin compounds under simple and mild conditions. Trace amount of water is beneficial to the dissociation of ammonium thiocyanate, which makes the SCN‐ anion easier to participate in the reaction. The protocol owns a broad substrates scope including terminal and internal, alkyl and aryl alkynes, excellent functional group tolerance and good regioselectivity.

Abstract:A practical method for the synthesis of allylic thioacyanates from allylic alcohols was disclosed employing K2S2O8 as the oxidant and NH4SCN as the thiocyanate source. Without introducing a leaving group in advance, a series of disubstituted and monosubstituted allylic thiocyanate compounds were obtained in moderate to good yields. This transition metal-free method features mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope and operational simplicity. The potential application of this method was demonstrated by some derivatization reactions of the product and mechanistic investigation indicated that a radical process is involved.

Abstract:A facile and efficient transformation of arylboronic acids to their corresponding aryl thiocyanates has been successfully developed. Based on the CuCl-catalyzed oxidative cross-coupling reaction between arylboronic acids and trimethylsilylisothiocyanate (TMSNCS) under oxygen atmosphere, the transformation can be readily conducted at ambient temperature. The newly-developed protocol provided a competitive synthetic approach to aryl thiocyanates that can tolerate a broad range of reactive functional groups and/or strong electron-withdrawing groups.
