Abstract:Carbonylations and celebrations: A palladium-catalyzed carbonylative coupling of aryl halides with aliphatic alkynes to produce furans has been developed. Aryl iodides and aryl bromides can be applied in this reaction by changing the ligand phosphine ligand from P(o-tolyl)3 for aryl iodides to Xantphos for aryl bromides. Abstract:A palladium-catalyzed direct alkenation of thiophenes and furans has been developed in the presence of AgOAc and pyridine. A variety of olefinic substrates such as acrylates, acrylamides, and acrylonitrile can perform the direct oxidative coupling reactions with various thiophenes and furans to give the mono-alkenylated products in good yields. In most cases, the (E)-isomers were isolated as the major products.

Abstract:A novel Pd-catalyzed method for the synthesis of various naphtho[1,2-b]furans from propargyl carboxylates bearing a furanyl group with organoborons is described. This cascade reaction involves Pd-0-catalyzed allenylation, 6 pi-electrocyclization and 1,3-H migration process. Control experiments suggested the base (Cs2CO3) play an essential role for the hydrogen migration. Wide substrate scope with easily accessible starting materials and good functional group tolerance indicate that this protocol may provide a general approach to construct naphtho[1,2-b]furan frameworks which are important in natural product synthesis and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract:The palladium/copper-cocatalyzed oxidative C-H/C-H cross-coupling between two heteroarenes by using molecular oxygen as an oxidant instead of metal oxidants has been developed for the first time to construct biheteroaryl motifs. A relatively broad range of thiophenes, furans and indoles can smoothly couple with various N-heteroarenes in satisfactory yields. This catalytic system with O2 as the terminal oxidant offers clear advantages of economically feasible and eco-friendly processes.
