Abstract:A photovoltaic-integrated solar-assisted heat pump(PV-SAHP),in which circulating water transfers the heat from the solar cells to the evaporator of heat pump,is capable of achieving high efficiency by cooling down the solar cells and elevating the evaporation temperature.According to the weather conditions of summer and winter in Hangzhou,computation has been conducted on the PV-SAHP water heater to analyze the performance.The analysis focused on the photovoltaic efficiency and cooling power for cells,the heating power and efficiency of heat pump in function of the cell temperature.The computed results indicated that the PV-SAHP can significantly increase both the photovoltaic efficiency and heat pump efficiency.
Experimental Analysis of Wet Gas-Liquid Water Mixture Within the Tank of Water in Glass Evacuated Tube Solar Water Heater

Abstract:In this investigation, thermal performance characteristics of passive solar water heater with vacuum tube were experimentally studied by using the mixture of wet gas and liquid water. Five different outlet locations of the tank were used to produce five different proportions of wet gas-liquid water mixtures. Experimental results were proposed in the way of water temperature, gas temperature, thermal stratification number, temperature distribution zone and a correlation for thermal efficiency through wet gas proportion. It was concluded that the wet gas-liquid water mixture at a wet gas proportion of 70% ameliorates the water temperature and thermal stratification number by respectively 13.7 degrees C and 10.33 times compared to the mixture at a wet gas proportion of 10%. For different wet gas-liquid water mixtures, temperature distribution zone shows a quadratic parabola. The correlation for thermal efficiency through different proportions of mixtures presents the regularity of linear regression equation. Also, the average R-2 and average Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of regression analysis correlation are calculated as 0.936 and 0.375, respectively. The novelty of this work is evaluating the effect of different proportions of wet gas-liquid water mixture on the thermal performance and thermal stratification of passive vacuum tube solar water heater, and develop a correlation for thermal efficiency through different proportions of mixture.

Abstract:A kind of application system of solar mid-high temperature steam was designed.And economical benefits of this system were analyzed.According to cost of parabolic trough electricity system,total investment cost and payback period of this system were calculated and analyzed.The results showed that construction and total investment costs could reach to 650MYM/kW and 750MYM/kW.For areas with sunshine more than 2000 hours,payback period would be 5.6~12.5 years according to system scale.Results indicated that application of solar mid-high temperature steam had good economy.

Abstract:Life-cycle assessment on energy balance and environmental impact of the JB 150 all-glass evacuated tube solar water heater was carried out. The results demonstrated that the production energy consumption of the solar water heater can be covered within 1.1 year by its solar energy gain in Beijing. Comparison with conventional electric, natural gas and coal countergarts showed that the solar heater can save 10.5, 3.8 and 5.1 tce in its life cycle. Since the energy gathered by the solar water heater is renewable energy, the solar tater heater does not generate pollutants and greenhouse gas except those during its production process. Compared with conventional heaters, the solar wtater heater has considerable environmental significance in terms jof emissions reduction of SO2, NOx, CO2 and particulate metters.

Abstract:In this paper, the present study focuses on innovative design, fabrication, and testing of a solar pure water and hot water hybrid system using a superconducting gas double evacuated tube and heat storage device to achieve a better performance. Exergy analyses of system was made, meanwhile, coefficient of performance and gained output ratio and economic properties has been investigated using data obtained from experimental study of different heat storage temperatures (50 to 70 °C) and without storage during one year under the climate conditions of Jinan, China. The results showed that the system performance had a close relationship with heat storage temperature, first rose and then declined with increasing the heat storage temperature. The method of storage heat and the temperature of the heat storage tank are the key regulatory selections, which allow to give priority to pure water or hot water production according to the ordered demands. The pure water and the hot water for 45 °C production rate of this system were not less than 10138.7 ml/day and 386 kg/day on a sunny day, which could meet the needs of general household drinking water and domestic hot water. The water quality results revealed that, all the samples were well agreed with standard values after distillation. Estimated cost of pure water and hot water in the system is 0.4523¥/L/m2 and 0.0134¥/L/m2 respectively.

Abstract:The joint application test bench for solar-thermal photovoltaic was set up to study solar Kalina cycle.The a-nalysis and testing of thermal performance on solar evacuated tube was carried out with methods of experimental and nu-merical simulation through the experiment platform of single tube solar water heater.The temperature and velocity field of single tube solar water heater were visible analyzed with field synergy principle.The study showed that the two di-mensional numerical calculation model could accurately reflect the trend of all-glass evacuated tube solar water heater in the same conditions and the coefficient of field synergy on evacuated tube which was equipped with guide plate was su-perior to other structures.It was finally confirmed that the Φ58 mm ×1 800 mm of solar evacuated tube equipped with reflector and guide plate was the best choice.

Abstract:The water heaters with different tube length and diameter,different coating material and guide plate were built with the research background of solar-assisted fuel cells to study the thermal performance in all-glass evacuated tube solar water heaters through experiment and simulation.The three-dimensional mathematical model of solar water heaters was established to study the enhanced data of heat transfer according to field synergy and entransy principles.The results show that the col-laboration in the jet region of the evacuated tube exit is the best and horizontal vortexs exist in water tank.The guide plate reduces mixed flow of cold and hot fluid,strengthens the flow at the bottom of the evacuated tube and decreases the entransy dissipation in the tube.After the evacuated tube is e-quipped with the guide plate,the temperature gradient in the water tank is reduced and the field syn-ergy degree is higher than those of other water heaters.The water heater with the guide plate should be adopted in natural convection for the thermal field of solar-assisted fuel cells.

Abstract:The top heat dissipation accounts for the main part of heat loss of water-type PV/T systems, and the PV/T collectors are vulnerable to frozen-water expansion and pipe cracking on cold winter nights. This study proposes to apply the vacuum double-glass in PV/T for its high thermal resistance and thus good heat preservation. Mathematical models of the vacuum double-glazing PV/T and single-glazing PV/T system are developed. Then they are validated by a daytime test and a freezing test. A case study is conducted about the all-day performance of them in winter of 3 typical areas. Results show that vacuum double-glazing PV/T performs well in the cold winter of Hefei with the thermal efficiency increased by 15.7% relatively and the completely-frozen time postponed by 3.5 h, while the electrical efficiency drops by relatively 15.5%, negatively affected by the increased temperature insides and the lower glass cover transmittance. Parametric discussions are conducted (pipes diameter, glass extinction, tube pitch, PV packing factor) and it shows varying influences on the daytime thermal, electrical, and anti-freezing performance of the two PV/T. By adjusting the structure parameters, the thermal and antifreeze per-formance of vacuum double-glazing PV/T in winter is guaranteed. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
A Solar Central Hot Water System with Auxiliary Absorption Heat Transformer

Abstract:All-glass evacuated collector tube is a widely used facility to supply313–318K hot water by solar energy. However, this relatively cheap solar system needs major improvements to meet the actual demands: i) to provide standard 328–333K domestic hot water supply, and ii) to supply required hot water steadily even in night or bad weather. An auxiliary absorption heat transformer is combined with the evacuated collector tube using solar energy as the primary energy source. Owing to the considerations for environmental protection, lithium bromide/water is used as the working fluid in the absorption heat transformer. The unsteady low-temperature hot water from the evacuated collector tube flows to the absorption heat transformer, which finally provides 328–333K water. The thermodynamic properties of the new solar central hot water system, such as COP, ECOP, circulation ratio, etc., are analyzed and simulated. Exergy analysis is also applied to the solar system to evaluate non-dimensional exergy loss of each component. Analysis reveals that optimal COP and the temperature of the supply water are subject to several key system parameters and variations of working conditions. These results help to improve the solar central hot water system to provide steady outputs that can satisfy the 328–333K domestic hot water supply standard.

Abstract:A straight-through all-glass evacuated tube collector (ETC) made of high-quality borosilicate glass was developed for large-scale low and medium temperature solar hot water systems. It consists of an inner and outer tube without a free end and was shown to be mechanically stable with a thermal expansion coefficient of (3.3 +/- 0.1) x 10(-6) K-1. Due to turbulent conditions in the straight-through all-glass tube, a higher heat transfer rate could be achieved than in a Dewar-tube ETC, leading to increased heat extraction and decreased heat losses. The photo-thermal efficiency was improved, indicating that a straight-through tube could be more cost-effective. At the same time, active flow in the tube can result in a better water quality as the accumulation time in the tube was short.

Abstract:Evacuated tube solar water heater systems are widely used in China due to their high thermal efficiency, simple construction requirements, and low manufacturing costs. CPC evacuated tube solar water heaters with a geometrical concentration ratio C of less than one are rare. A comparison of the experimental rig of evacuated tube solar water heater systems with and without a mini-CPC reflector was set up, with a series of experiments done in Hefei (31 degrees 53'N, 117 degrees 15'E), China. The first and second laws of thermodynamics were used to analyze and contrast their thermal performance. The water in the tank was heated from 26.9 to 55, 65, 75, 85, and 95 degrees C. Two types of solar water heater systems were used, and the data gathered for two days were compared. The results show that when attaining low temperature water, the evacuated tube solar water heater system without a mini-CPC reflector has higher thermal and exergy efficiencies than the system with a mini-CPC reflector, including the average and immediate values. On the other hand, when attaining high temperature water, the system with a mini-CPC reflector has higher thermal and exergy efficiencies than the other one. The comparison presents the advantages of evacuated tube solar water heater systems with and without a mini-CPC reflector, which can be offered as a reference when choosing which solar water system to use for actual applications.

Abstract:In the residential sector, a great part of the electricity goes into heating water by electric water heaters, which results in high CO2 emissions as well as an unprecedented increase in electricity demand leading to an energy crisis. This study offers solar water heaters as a more economical and efficient replacement for electric water heaters. The present study is aimed at investigating the potential for solar water heaters in the subcontinent, especially in India. A feasibility analysis is performed for seven cities in the subcontinent, namely Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Assam, Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh. Simulated results are based on a solar fraction, equity payback, multiple collectors (one, two or three), horizontal and tilted, type of collector (evacuated tube, glazed and unglazed), electricity saved and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction. The collector’s area is made such that it should receive at least 50% of the solar fraction. The range of payback period varies from five to 15 years. The results show Gujrat being the most ideal site for solar water heaters.

Abstract:Three solar thermal parameters,i.e.heat loss coeffi cientULT,irradiation H and stagnation par ameter Y of all-glass evacuated collector tubes were derived on the basis of energy balance equation,which depen ds on solar transmittance of cover glass tube,solar absorptance and thermal emit tance of the selective absorbing surface and gas pressure in the jacket between cover and inner glass tubes,and solar irradiance,temperatures and the geometry o f the collector tube.Calculated results of solar thermal parameters of all-glass evacuated collector tubes agree well with experiments.These solar thermal param eters of all-glass evacuated collector tube were adopted by China national stand ard GB/T 17049-1997.

Abstract:The aim of the paper is to investigate fluid flow in the solar water heater by means of the computational fluid dynamics(CFD).The investigation was carried out with a focus on the convective heat transfer in the tube and influence factors.The buoyancy induced flow circulation and temperature in different parts of the tube was analyzed.The numerical simulation result is consistent with the result acquired by the experiment method.It is shown that fluid flow in the connection of the tube and water tank becomes stochastic and turbulent The flow instability leads to mixing of the warm uprising flow and the cold downward flow,which decreases efficiency of the heat exchange process.It is necessary to take effective steps to prevent the flow instability and secure the flow circulation in the tube.

Abstract:Based on the typical meteorological year data of Shanghai city, annual performances of solar water heating (SWH) system and photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) system are comparatively analyzed under three different cases. The results show that when only solar energy is used, the effective day number of SWH system is more than PV/T system under the same case every month; for the PV/T system, heat loss at the nighttime dissipates most of the absorbed solar energy under the continuous heating mode considering the nighttime heat loss case; initial water temperature determines system electric efficiency. On the whole, PV/T system offers competitive performance only under the auxiliary heating mode, no matter from the points of primary efficiency and static payback period.

Abstract:A mathematical model for a designed prototype of direct expansion solar assisted heat pump water heater(DX-SAHPWH)was established by steady and concentrating method.Experiments were carried out under the weather conditions of Shanghai and the water heater performance data were collected.Power consumed under different typical working conditions in China was then simulated.The performance of DX-SAHPWH was compared with other traditional water heaters and key economic operational factors analyzed using the method of synthesis energy pricing.It is shown that weather conditions,costs of energy and control strategy are crucial in energy conservation and economic operation of the DX-SAHPWH.

Abstract:Detailed analyses and simulations of heat transfer have been carried out on an e vacuated tube for solar- powered adsorption refrigerator,including inhomogen eous radiation heat transfer between its inner and outer tubes,two adjacent tubes, tube and back plate,sun light reflection on back plate,etc.A a new cost-effect iveness parameter is applied to analyze the structure parameters,including diam eter of evacuated tube,distance between two adjacent tube centers and the thick ness of adsorbent.Some results are obtained which show that evacuated tubes with a larger diameter can result in a higher temperature and better performance.Whe n the thickness of adsorbent equals to 10?mm and the distance between two adjac ent tube centers equals to 2.5 times the diameter,the best economic p erformance can be obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, a solar water heating system (SWHS) is designed to substitute for a gas geyser system (GGS). First, a mathematical model for the SWHS is built according to the thermodynamic and hydrodynamic theories; then the transient performances of the system are analyzed using the TRNSYS (Transient System Simulation) program; and finally, the techno-economics of the SWHS are evaluated. The annually mean solar fraction of the SWHS is 0.56. TRNSYS simulation results show that the water temperatures at the solar collector outlet and in the tanks are much higher in summer than in winter because of the solar radiation and ambient temperature effects, and auxiliary heat is frequently required in winter. Comparing with the original GGS, the SWHS is cost-effective and its payback period is 7.4years. The redesign work is of high value for northwest China, considering the abundant solar radiation, the underdeveloping economics, and the environmental conservation in such regions.
The Influence of Storage Tank Volume on the Nighttime Heat Dissipation and Freezing Process of All-Glass Vacuum Tube Solar Water Heaters

Abstract:The issue of freezing often occurs when using all-glass vacuum tube solar water heaters during cold winter seasons, leading to problems such as pipe ruptures and tank leakage. In order to further study the nocturnal heat dissipation and freezing characteristics of these heaters, a three-dimensional transient numerical model of their nocturnal heat dissipation was established. The model simulated the nocturnal heat dissipation process, and experimental validations were conducted through nocturnal temperature drops of the collector and temperature drops of individual tubes without a storage tank. Experimental and simulation results revealed that in clear weather conditions during cold winters in Luoyang, the all-glass vacuum tube solar water heaters experienced freezing issues during the night, with freezing predominantly starting from the bottom surface of the vacuum tubes. The frozen length along the tube wall and the thickness of ice at the bottom section reached up to 1180 mm and 5 mm, respectively. In the absence of a storage tank, the freezing situation was severe, with approximately 4/5 of the individual tubes completely frozen. Under specified operating conditions, different storage tank volumes exhibited varying degrees of freezing in the all-glass vacuum tube solar water heaters. When the volume was increased to 15 L, the temperature drop in the storage tank and the vacuum tubes decreased by 12.1% and 7.6%, respectively. Larger storage tank volumes resulted in reduced freezing risks in all-glass vacuum tube solar collectors. This study provides valuable guidance for the design and application of solar collectors and serves as a reference for the development and application of solar energy utilization technologies.
