Abstract:By analyzing a number of GPS data, a principle was found that GPS single point location data was composed of position excursion and normal distribution. In order to separate the position excursion from normal distribution, normality elimination method was advanced. First, calculated average latitude and longitude coordinate of GPS data as central coordinate of normal distribution. Then, calculated confidence interval [-sigma, sigma] and removed excursion points outside of it. Finally, calculate a radius of the circle that ensure 70~80% points falling in the circle, namely defined threshold lambda as 0.7~0.8. By reason that the property of 70~80% points was able to take the place of all points, the method could be feasible and the result was obvious. Aimed at the location error of GPS single point measurement was large, a new method of two points relative location measurement was put forward which used two GPS receivers to acquire location data separately and simultaneously at two endpoints of a certain distance. The experiment results indicated that when threshold lambda was 0.7, the previous measurement error of single point location experiment was above 10m. However, after using the new method, the location error was about 1.2m. It was turned out that the latter improved measurement accuracy greatly

Abstract:In order to propose a efficient, accurate and structure-simplified positioning system, the positioning method based on depth information was studied upon the foundation of the research on existing traditional ultrashort baseline(USBL) positioning system (method based on range). According to the formulas derivation, the positioning error of the depth method and the range method were compared. The numerical simulation analysis of the positioning error was carried out, under the combination of positioning error and Cramer-Rao lower bound(CRLB) theory of the delay estimation and the phase estimation. The results show that, in the case of long range positioning, the positioning accuracy based on depth information is higher than that of the range method, especially at high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR). In addition, the depth-based system also has the advantages of simple structure and fast positioning because the signal round-trip time is unnecessary to be measured.

Abstract:When global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is interfered by electronic jamming or obstacles around, there may be outliers in GNSS measured values which will reduce the accuracy of the position estimation and degrade the flight control quality. In order to solve this problem, a robust position estimation algorithm with the ability of restraining the interference of outliers is proposed in this paper. The conception of variation of the observation is introduced in this paper to be the judgment of the outliers' identification. Meanwhile, the weight factors based on the variation of the observation is introduced to adjust the weight of the abnormal observations in real time. The proposed method is proved by simulations and experimental studies. The results show that this method can provide a stable and reliable position information and improve the flight control quality.

Abstract:The portable track detecting instrument facilitates effective inspection of track smoothness. The speed measuring module is an important component of the system. The present way of measuring speeds has serious defects, such as that the positioning mistake is too large. To solve this problem, a new type track-detecting instrument using the Global Positioning System is studied. The paper discusses the hardware and software designs of the new system,and the key technologies of using the GPS, and also experimental analysis. The new system improves the accuracy of failure-point positioning. It helps to find the failure points more quickly and accurately, thus increasing the efficiency of maintenance.

Abstract:A Pseudo-satellite system that transmits signals similar to GNSS can provide positioning services in places where GNSS signals are not captured and have enormous potential for indoor machine system and airports. Different paths of the device have different carrier phase initial solution positioning accuracy. Existing methods rely on measuring instruments or use many coordinate points for solving ambiguity resolution (AR), which creates inconvenience for real-time ground positioning. This study aims to find a new on-the-fly (OTF) method to achieve high accuracy and convenient positioning. A new method is proposed based on a two-difference observation model for ground-based high-precision point positioning. We used an adaptive particle swarm algorithm to solve the initial solution, followed by a nonlinear least-squares method to optimize the localization solution. It is free of priori information or measuring instruments. We designed several different paths, such as circular trajectory and square trajectory, to study the positioning accuracy of the solution. Simulation experiments with different trajectories showed that geometric changes significantly impact solutions. In addition, it does not require precise time synchronization of the base stations, making the whole system much easier to deploy. We built a real-world pseudo-satellite system and used a multi-sensor crewless vehicle as a receiver. Real-world experiments showed that our approach could achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy in applications.

Abstract:In recent years, with the development of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), the satellite navigation technology has played a crucial role in smartphone navigation. To solve the problem of the low positioning accuracy in the smartphones based on GNSS, this paper proposes to apply real-time dynamic carrier phase difference technique (RTK) in the smartphones, and a real-time positioning system for smartphones based on RTK is implemented. This paper presents the implementation and experimental results of this system. This system is mainly composed of the GNSS reference station, the NTRIP system and the smartphones. The experimental results show that the system effectively improves the positioning accuracy of smartphones

Abstract:In order to estimate initial positioning error of submarine-to-ground missile accurately,a new method based on telemetry-tracking deviation data in launch inertial coordinate is presented.This method is built on the generation mechanism and transfer relation of the guidance instrument errors.The relation formula between initial positioning error and telemetry-tracking data is founded,and a mathematical model is deduced to estimate initial positioning error using telemetry-tracking deviation data.The accuracy of estimation method is analyzed by flight test data.On basis of the study about selection principle of telemetry-tracking deviation information,the analysis emphasis is put on improving tracking data accuracy,then the improved least square method based on time domain is presented.This method is verified by flying test measuring data,and the computing result proves that the method is effective and feasible.

Abstract:Addressing the problems that current reconnaissance methods are not only limited in the ways of measuring geographic coordinates of moving targets at adversary sea,but also low in measurement precision,this paper proposes a new method with accurate identification and precise positioning of moving adversary targets at sea.This method is based on anti-ship cruise missile with COMPASS equipped,SAR,PD radar,high repetition laser rangefinder(HRLR),laser height device(LHD) and data communication system(DCS).Also in this paper,the construction of reconnaissance missile is introduced,principles of positioning are illustrated,the model of continuous multi-station rendezvous physical location algorithm is established,and the analog measurement data solving and error analysis are completed.Simulation experiments prove that the proposed method is simple and practical that it meets the demands of practical engineering application.It can provide high-precision target location information for long-range precision strike system from the sea.

A Trajectory Similarity-Based Method to Evaluate GNSS Kinematic Precise Positioning Performance with a Case Study

Abstract:There is a lack of effective testing methods to evaluate high-precision global navigation satellite system (GNSS) kinematic positioning solutions, such as GNSS real-time kinematic (RTK) or post-processed kinematic (PPK), with centimeter-level accuracy. Current methods either process static GNSS data in kinematic mode to perform a pseudo-kinematic test or use a precise motion table to make a real-kinematic test but within a very limited travel distance. This study proposes a trajectory similarity method by moving a track trolley platform along a railway track, which can match the GNSS positioning trajectory and the pre-surveyed reference track. The GNSS trajectory offsets from the reference track along the cross-track and vertical directions are regarded as GNSS kinematic positioning errors. Lever-arm compensation is applied to achieve millimeter-level accuracy for this evaluation method. A case study was conducted to evaluate the positioning performance of the Global Positioning System/BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (GPS/BDS) PPK using the proposed method. The results indicate that the proposed method can provide a reference trajectory on the order of a few millimeters, which is sufficiently accurate even for PPK positioning performance evaluation and error source tracing in wide regions. In this case, cycle slips as small as 10 cm in the carrier phase measurements can be detected and studied based on the proposed method.

Abstract:With the rapid development of the satellite navigation industry, low-cost and high-precision Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning has recently become a research hotspot. The traditional application of GNSS may be further extended thanks to the low cost of measuring instruments, but effective methods are also desperately needed due to the low quality of the data obtained using these instruments. Thus, in this paper, we propose the analysis and evaluation of the ambiguity fixed-rate and positioning accuracy of single-frequency Global Positioning System (GPS) and BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) data, collected from a low-cost u-blox receiver, based on the Constrained LAMBDA (CLAMBDA) method with a baseline length constraint, instead of the classical LAMBDA method. Three sets of experiments in different observation environments, including two sets of static short-baseline experiments and a set of dynamic vehicle experiments, are adopted in this paper. The experiment results show that, compared to classical LAMBDA method, the CLAMBDA method can significantly improve the success rate of the GNSS ambiguity resolution. When the ambiguity is fixed correctly, the baseline solution accuracy reaches 0.5 and 1 cm in a static scenario, and 1 and 2 cm on a dynamic platform.
An Advanced Dual-Frequency Positioning Algorithm for Satellite Navigation Receivers

Abstract:With the development of the Ground Positioning System (GPS) modernization and the expectable implementation of Galileo, people pay more and more attention to civil applications on multi-frequency signals. This paper proposes a new and advanced positioning algorithm for the dual-frequency satellite navigation receivers, concerning the various influences of all the ranging error sources and taking advantage of the Klobuchar single-frequency ionospheric model. The paper also presents positioning precision provided by the new algorithm. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that, the new dual-frequency positioning algorithm can achieve higher positioning accuracy than the single-frequency positioning algorithm and the traditional dual-frequency positioning algorithm.

Abstract:Due to different requirements of Global Positioning System (GPS) applications, performances of GPS receiver vary greatly. In order to evaluate a GPS receiver's performances, a simulation platform build on Matlab has been developed by this research. This platform includes four elements: user interface, GPS signal simulator (intermediate frequency, IF), civilian (C/A) software receiver and noise 14 generator. Design and implementation of the platform are discussed in details in this paper. Firstly, a mathematical model of intermediate frequency (IF) GPS signal simulator is introduced. After that, methods of determining visual satellites and computing transmission time by using existing ephemeris are also discussed. Secondly, key algorithms of the software 14 receiver, including acquisition and tracking, are presented. Finally, an experiment is demonstrated to test the validity of this platform. The close correspondence between pre-designed user I trajectories and position results of the software receiver certifies 19 the validity of this platform. Compared with hardware simulation, this platform possesses more effective and flexible. The performances of the receiver can be tested completely by changing different scenes of signal simulator. All key techniques of this platform are modularized and coded with Matlab language. It is easy to understood and used. In this sense, this simulation platform can be an ideal tool for new beginners of this field to master GPS principles.

Abstract:GPS (Global Positioning System) receivers have been widely used as position sensors in precision agriculture. Many GPS manufacturers report GPS accuracy using stationary test data. However most agricultural applications, such as tillage, planting, spraying, and harvesting, in which GPS receivers are used under dynamic conditions, are mobile operations. In this study, we developed a method to evaluate the GPS dynamic position accuracy under linear parallel-tracking applications. It is proposed that the pass-to-pass accuracy is the most important criterion in evaluating a receiver's dynamic performance for those applications. Eight commercially available DGPS receivers were tested during the spring of 2002 under different dates, times of the day and travel speeds. As examples of using the proposed method, the dynamic performance of these receivers was evaluated. It was found that the dynamic performance of a receiver was extremely variable from test to test. The cumulative frequency distribution of the pass-to-pass average error provided a good statistical measure of the GPS dynamic accuracy.

Abstract:Underwater navigation practice shows that the long baseline survey has the characteristics of coplanar configuration, flat geometry, and large refraction error, which brings challenges to underwater positioning. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a high-precision real-time range-difference location algorithm based on underwater long baseline measurement. Firstly, the system error sources of long baseline positioning are analyzed in detail, the propagation models of different system errors are constructed, and the effects of system error sources on the rangefinder are described. Secondly, the limitations of traditional range iterative location algorithms and geometric analytic location algorithms in long baseline locations are analyzed. Then, using the strategy of converting the long baseline range information into the distance difference information, a high-precision real-time distance difference location algorithm based on long baseline measurement is presented. Finally, the feasibility of the algorithm is analyzed from the perspective of precision analysis. Numerical simulation results show that compared with the two traditional long-baseline positioning algorithms, the proposed algorithm has higher positioning accuracy and potential application value in the field of underwater real-time positioning.

Abstract:Aiming at the estimation of initial positioning error in submarine-to-ground missile,the paper presents an error separation method using telemetry-tracking deviation data in launch inertial coordinate system to estimate initial positioning error.This method is based on the generation mechanism and transfer relation of guidance instrument error.The relation between initial positioning error and telemetry-tracking position deviation is deduced,and its influence on initial velocity bound in navigation calculation of positioning error is analyzed.Then a mathematical model is founded to compute guidance instrument velocity error in initial phase trajectory by test data in laboratory.The accuracy of error separation method is computed by use of flight test data,and the technique in terms of selecting telemetry-tracking deviation information is discussed.The result proves the feasibility of this estimation method.

Abstract:The information about Earth’s gravity field is an important basic information necessarily for geodesy, geophysics, geodynamics and other disciplines. The mapping of gravity field is an effective mean to obtain the gravity field information. Compared with the surveying of gravity field based on satellite, ship, and airplane, vehicle-mounted gravity mapping has advantages of strong flexibility, high spatial resolution and high accuracy. A short baseline or a small-scale gravity field mapping can be realized based on the combination of relative gravimeters and the high-precision absolute gravity reference point. However, this method is not suitable for the situation of a long baseline or a large-scale gravity field surveying due to the drift of relative gravimeter. In this work, a vehicle-mounted system for rapid surveying of the absolute gravity field is built up based on a miniaturized atomic gravimeter. The inner precision of the instrument is evaluated to be 0.123 mGal, and the outer precision is 0.112 mGal in a field test which contains 12 points for 3 km distance. Furthermore, with this system, the absolute gravity data are obatined within 2 min for adjusting and 5 min for measuring in downtown for each measured point. A rapid surveying of absolute gravity field for 19 points is carried out and the route covers 24 km. The inner precision of the instrument is evaluated to be 0.162 mGal, and the outer precision is 0.169 mGal. Finally, the free-air gravity anomalies obtained from the measured data of atomic gravimeter and the fitting results of satellite gravity model are analyzed, and it is found that the trends of changing are basically consistent with each other. This paper provides a new proposal for the rapid surveying of the absolute gravity field.

Abstract:On the bases of the principle of pseudo-range measurement in navigation and positioning, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the measurement principle of GPS receiver's received time and transmission time, and proposed a fast hot-start algorithm of GPS receiver. After cold-start, the receiver has recorded the received time, general location, ephemeris, and pseudo-range of the satellites. After hot start, once the satellites with recorded ephemeris go into the tracking state, the current time and satellite transmission time can be reconstructed according to the recorded message, so that we can obtain the pseudo-range between the satellites and receiver's general location in the present moment. Then with correct positioning results through the Least Square method, high precision and rapid positioning will finally be realized. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
