Abstract:Based on the widely used air-hydraulic brake system,an exam scheme was put forward,which eliminated all kinds of disadvantageous factors.On a loader with this brake system,contrast experiments were carried out.Experimental results showed that the air-hydraulic brake system was a strong overdamped system.All kinds of damping holes prolonged the response time of this system and should be eliminated possibly.To reduce the damping ratio,the length of the conduits should be reduced and the inside diameter should be enlarged.The brake fluid with big Young's modulus should be used and must be degased and dehumidified.Enlarging the return spring constant of the brake cylinder could reduce the damping ratio and increase the natural vibration frequency,thereby the brake performance was improved.However,the tightening of the return spring may reduce the brake power effectively.

Abstract:Tamping devices have a common problem that the amplitude and frequency of the tamping tool cannot be adjusted and, thus, are too inflexible to satisfy different working demands. In order to solve this problem, mathematical modeling and analysis of a new tamping arm are developed according to the technical parameters of the existing tamping devices, and the configuration of the new tamping exciter controlled by a rotary valve is analyzed using analytical method. Considering the feasibility and practicability of the new tamping device, the special electrohydraulic exciter and rotary valve are determined. Then, the control characteristic, performance, and dynamic motions of the exciter are studied in view of the ballast condition feature. Finally, the test verifies the theoretical model and the new tamping device exciter shows good performance.

Abstract:In this study, we designed a new type of digital hydraulic transformer using four gear-pump/motor units with a displacement ratio of 20:21:22:23 and two control valve groups that consist of four solenoid directional valves. The driving gear shafts of the four gear-pump/motor units are fixedly connected to achieve synchronous rotation. The two control valve groups are respectively installed through an integrated valve block on the inlet and outlet of each gear-pump/motor unit. With the objective of reducing the installed power and energy consumption of hydraulic traction systems, we propose a new energy-saving hydraulic system based on a digital hydraulic transformer. This hydraulic system uses a digital hydraulic transformer as a pressure/flow control element. By controlling the power on/off states of eight solenoid directional valves, the digital hydraulic transformer can realize a change in output flow and then a change in speed of the hydraulic cylinder piston rod. Through the theoretical derivation and simulation analysis of the hydraulic system pressure/flow change process, and the experimental verification of the built hydraulic traction system based on the experimental platform, a conclusion is drawn that the proposed digital hydraulic transformer can change the output pressure/flow of a hydraulic system through a binary digital control, verifying the feasibility of the pressure change principle of the designed digital hydraulic transformer and the rationality of the hydraulic traction system circuit.

Abstract:Purpose For moderate pressure and high pressure gear pumps, the temperature failure problem of bearings is now of considerable concern because of their heavy loads. However, the compact structure and the efficiency consideration make it extremely difficult to improve the bearing cooling. A self-circulating oil bearing system is developed for gear pumps with self-lubricating bearings to solve this problem. The oil is aspirated in from the low pressure chamber of the gear pump and discharged to the same chamber by using the pressure difference in the journal bearing, thus achieving the self-circulation. Design/methodology/approach An experiment test rig has been built for the feasibility study. The oil flow rate under different speeds has been recorded. Furthermore, the temperatures of the bearings with or without the oil circulation have been compared. Additionally, the oil flow in the test rig has been simulated using computational fluid dynamics codes. Findings The experimental and numerical results agree well. The experimental results indicate that the oil flow rate increases approximately linearly with the speed and the bearing temperature can be lowered successfully. The calculation results indicate that the bearing load capacity is nearly the same. Both the experimental and numerical studies establish that the self-circulating oil bearing system works successfully. Originality value As far as the authors know, it is the first time to find that the self-circulation can be built using the pressure difference in the bearing oil film, and this principle can be applied in the cooling and lubrication of the gear pumps to solve the temperature failure problem.

Abstract:This paper deals with the development and validation of an analytical dynamic model of an air-over-hydraulic (AOH) brake system that is widely used on loaders. The AOH system is broken into five simple and cascaded subsystems, pneumatic circuit, air-hydraulic actuator, brake line, wheel cylinder, and disk brake. Pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical dynamics are taken care of in each subsystem. The determination of model coefficients is introduced in detail. Many experiments are performed on an experimental setup of the real AOH system on a loader and the experimental data are compared with the simulation results. Preliminary analysis shows that the simulation results are in good agreement with the experimental data. Other researchers in the areas of brake systems in construction machinery would find the model useful for similar system modeling and analysis

Abstract:The forging manipulator is a key equipment for manufacturing important equipment in nuclear power,thermal power and rail transition. According to the requirements of high speed,high precision and reliability for the forging manipulator,the function of hydraulic system is analyzed and the circuit of hydraulic system is designed on the basis of function analysis. The hydraulic control system circuit of the forging manipulator consists of clamp system,raising and pitching system,horizontal migration system,buffer system,gantry travelling system and clamp rotation system. The hydraulic pumping station adopts the average flow method to realize the energy saving. Simulation and analysis research on the key control performance(celerity,accuracy and startup performance) and reliability of the hydraulic system is carried out on the basis of mathematical model. The results show that both control performance and reliability of the hydraulic system are improved through rational design of the hydraulic system circuit. The research can provide theoretical direction for the design of large flow hydraulic system and achieve rapid,accurate,stable and intelligent control of the forging manipulator.

Abstract:This work aims to improve interface tribological behavior by modifying the friction block connection. The effectiveness of this approach and its underlying mechanisms are evaluated through friction braking test and finite element analysis (FEA). A finite element model (FEM) was established based on the main structure and material parameters of the high-speed train braking performance simulation test setup. The Achard wear formula was used to adequately run-in the friction block. Using a restart analysis to inherit the model post run-in, complex eigenvalue analysis (CEA) and implicit dynamic analysis (IDA) were conducted. Results indicate that the disc spring deformation significantly affects tribological behavior and friction-induced vibration and noise (FIVN) via regulating the contact state at the braking interface. Inappropriate deformation of the disc spring can lead to severe eccentric wear of the friction block, exacerbating the tribological behavior at the braking interface and inducing the brake system to generate high-intensity FIVN. Therefore, rational design of disc spring connection is an effective strategy for improving interface tribological behavior, but the disc spring connection design must provide it appropriate deformation capability. This is essential to ensure that the braking interface exhibits favorable contact state, thereby improving tribological behavior.

Abstract:Many domestic traffic accidents are caused by high-temperature friction of truck’s brake drum resulting in failure of brake system. Therefore, it is the key to solve the problem of decline on brake drum performance caused by temperature. The following schemes are mainly adopted: improving brake structure and friction materials, adding auxiliary brake devices, and installing cooling devices for brake system. This paper summarizes the structure and characteristics of most intelligent cooling devices for brake system in China. In addition, based on these intelligent cooling devices, the paper also puts forward new intelligent cooling devices for truck’s brake system. The system uses sensors to analyze the temperature state of the brake drum. According to the analysis results, the central controller innovatively combines air pump and water pump to transform low-pressure water into high-pressure water, and then sprays and cools the brake drum through the water pipes and arc spray devices to ensure the normal operation of the brake system.

Abstract:A new Y-block design's function and hydraulic performance were verified through nu- merical methods and experimental validation. The velocity fields of its internal flow channel and turbulence energy under different opening levels were analyzed by ANSYS. Combined with expe- riments, the automatic switching function of the Y-block was examined. Based on the hydraulic control theory, the new structure of Y-block was designed by characters of one-way valve pressure of forward and reverse. A three-dimension model was set up by Pro-E, and the velocity and energy consumption distribution of one-way valve at different opening levels were shown with standard K-e of ANSYS. Combined with the test data, the max energy consumption of the new configuration was achieved and its self-control ability was proved. The results show that the max energy consumption of the new Y-block is lower 0.5Mpa; its self-control ability can meet the requirement of the thermal recovery of heavy oil in the switching action.

Abstract:The paper analyzes the capability of a variable hydraulic motor widely used in hoisting bodies of large tonnage automobile crane.The problems of large pressure fluctuation in variable process,rigorous requirement of product technology and high pressure adaptability have been discovered by the capability analysis.The paper models the variable motor based on AMESim and verifies it according to the actual test.As a result of the optimization of the control valve critical dimensions based on this model,the work pressure of the pilot control cut-off valve rises,the pressure fluctuation of variable process falls, product technology requirement lowers and the passing rate of the product increases.

Abstract:Journal of Intelligent Material Systems and Structures, Ahead of Print. This paper presents the design and performance evaluation of a multi-disc magnetorheological fluid (MRF)-based brake (MRB) for A00-class minicars. The braking performance of the MRB is studied by means of theoretical analysis and experimental verification. Firstly, the MRB is designed according to the shear model of the MRF, and the structure optimization is carried subsequently. Secondly, multi-physical simulations of the MRB are conducted to investigate the transient temperature field, thermal stress and thermal strain distribution of the MRB under different braking models; Finally, a performance evaluating testbed is built to experimentally assess the braking performance of the MRB. The results indicate that the theoretical braking torque of the MRB fulfills the target value. The thermal strain-induced deformation of the disc is minimal and has a negligible effect on the torque output. In addition, the MRB is experimentally validated to exhibit excellent braking performance in terms of sufficient torque output capacity, rapid response, low temperature rise characteristic, as well as favorable velocity following property.

Abstract:As a vital road construction machine, the bridge erecting machine works in a very complex environment. The brake as an important link to maintain the safety and stability of the bridge erecting machine, it will have serious consequences if it is failed. Establishing the brake simulation model and specifying the fault characteristics according to the actual operation status will make it more efficient to find the cause of faults and maintain the safety of machine for a long time. A simulation model of brake of the bridge erecting machine was established by Adams. The brake arms and center axis with obvious data characteristics were flexibly processed, and finite elements were analysed using Abaqus. To verify the accuracy of simulation models, rectangular rosettes were applied to special geometric points, and the strain data were gathered by using the DH3816N collector and compared with the simulation model. The Adams kinematic simulation model was used to simulate the actual operating conditions by the experiment of the disc springs. Two typical fault phenomena were selected: reduced insufficient of disc spring and oil pressure, and two fault characteristics were extracted: variation of the brake shoe clearance and variation of the braking system pressure. When the brake generates the fault characteristics, the normal operation of the brake will not be affected if the fault characteristics are in the first stage. When the fault characteristics are beyond the critical threshold, the faults phenomena of the brake are generated. The results of the simulation experiments proved that the method of using the simulation model to extract the fault characteristics of the braking system and distinguish the causes of the fault was feasible.

Abstract:Aiming at its extra vibration problem and operation instability,the BX32 type reciprocating compressor was transformed.The structure of the reciprocating compressor was analyzed by the finite element analysis(FEA) and vibration theory,and the result shows that the resonance of support beams is the main factor of the welding seam breakage of the buffer vessel and vibration of the compressor.The reciprocating compressor's support part was re-design,which gets sound effets on the industrial applications.

Abstract:Common disc brakes of mine hoists cannot effectively detect the faults caused by an insufficient braking force. To solve the problem, a new disc brake is proposed which can accurately monitor the disc spring force (DSF) and positive brake pressure (PBP) in real time. Based on this, the new structure of the disc brake is designed, and the new DSF sensor and PBP sensor are installed in the disc brake to judge whether the braking force is adequate. By analyzing the structural mechanics models of two sensors, the design is verified as feasible. Moreover, theoretical parameters of the disc brake are calculated to prepare for comparison with experimental parameters. Finally, prototypes of the DSF sensor and PBP sensor are calibrated and the designed disc brake prototype of mine hoists is tested in the field. Experiments show that the DSF, PBP and other parameters monitored by the disc brake in real time are accurate, and the error is small compared with theoretical parameters. As a result, the faults caused by an insufficient braking force can be detected timely by the disc brake. The present study can provide a train of thought for monitoring disc brake faults.

Virtual prototype and field test study on hydraulic brake system performance of mining truck

Abstract:In order to study the braking performance of mining dump truck, the modeling of the oil–gas suspension, front and rear brake of the dump truck were carried out first. Then the virtual prototype model of the dump truck was established in multibody dynamic simulation software. The simulation of braking and emergency braking performance, brake deviation on the flat road, and 9% downhill road were carried out. The brake in driving performance, emergency brake performance, disc brake retardance performance, transmission retardance performance, and hydraulic braking system response time were carried out by the real vehicle experiment, respectively. The result shows that the clearance elimination and pressure rise time of braking system are slightly long, especially the clearance elimination time, so the oil system should have an improvement. At the same time, the braking force distribution of the front and the rear is not reasonable, and the front wheel braking torque is slightly insufficient. After solving these problems by authors’ project team, the braking performance of the mine dump truck has been improved significantly.

Case Studies in Thermal Engineering

Abstract:Due to their exceptional ability to endure heavy loads, cam-lobe radial-piston hydraulic motors are extensively utilized in heavy machinery. The wet brake is a key part capable of providing highly braking torque, which has numerous friction pairs and a compact structure. However, there exists a challenge in solving the issue of irrational pressure distribution which leads to non-uniform heat flux distribution and severe wear failure of the brake discs. For this, an innovative method to optimize the wet brake's loading structure has been developed to address the issue of non-uniform heat flux distribution. A thermomechanical coupling finite element (FE) model was established to establish a clear correlation between loading structure parameters and contact pressure distribution on the brake disc. An innovative equal heat flux criterion was introduced to guide the optimization process. Simulation results confirmed that the optimized loading structure achieved a brake disc contact pressure distribution aligned with the ideal heat flux density criteria. Experimental validation further demonstrated a notable reduction of up to 44.39 % in maximum wear depth (h max ) across different radii of the brake disc compared to the unoptimized structure. These findings underscore the efficacy of our approach in reducing wear rates and enhancing durability of the wet brakes.

Abstract:Abstract As a kind of energy dissipation brace members by the yielding of metal, Buckling Restrained Brace (BRB) can overcome shortcomings of the common brace’s compression buckling, which has good energy dissipation capacity and ductility in earthquake. To study the Buckling Restrained Brace effect in the main machine hall, the nonlinear finite element analysis software ABAQUS is adopted to analyze the seismic performance of a main machine hall with BRB under the action of the rare earthquake and compare the elastic-plastic analysis results under the action of different seismic wave in this paper. The results show the structural seismic performance has been improved significantly, “no collapse under strong earthquake” can be achieved.
