Abstract:Photo‐promoted cyanomethyl radical procedures for the preparation of 2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐indenes and 2,8‐dihydrocyclopenta[a]indenes from phenyl‐linked 1,6‐enynes with α‐halogenated acetonitriles are reported. The iodocyanomethylation/cyclization is performed via an atom‐transfer radical addition (ATRA) strategy under photocatalyst‐ and oxidant‐free conditions. In particular, the photoinduced cyanomethylative cascade bicyclization is carried out under the fac‐Ir(ppy)3/Na2CO3 catalystic symtem and visible light irradiation. These methods offer a one‐step and atom‐economical access to diverse cyano‐group containing five‐membered rings with broad substrate scope and high selectivity. A plausible reaction mechanism is also proposed.

Abstract:A visible-light-induced radical cascade cyclization of 2-aryl- N -acryloyl indoles with 2‐mercaptothiazolinium salts is reported, furnishing the corresponding indolo[2,1- α ]isoquinoline derivatives in good to moderate yields. A series of primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl bromides were converted conveniently into redox-active thiazolinium salts, which are subsequently transformed into alkyl radicals through interaction with an excited-state photocatalyst. This green and environmentally protocol features broad substrate scope under mild conditions.

Abstract:A visible-light-promoted research protocol for constructing dihydropyrido[1,2- a ]indolone skeletons is herein described proceeding through a cascade cyclization mediated by trifluoromethyl radicals. This method allows the efficient synthesis of various indole derivatives without the need of photocatalysts or transition-metal catalysts. Mechanism experiments indicate that the process involves a radical chain process initiated by the homolysis of Umemoto's reagent. Abstract:A photocatalyst‐free photoinduced radical difluoromethylation approach for the convenient synthesis of difluoromethylated oxindoles from N‐arylacrylamides with difluoromethyl phenoxathiinium salt (PT‐CF2H+BF4‐) was developed, this transformation involves radical difluoromethylation/cyclization cascade process and features photocatalyst‐free, mild reaction conditions, broad substrate scope and good functional groups tolerance. With this method, a wide variety of N‐arylacrylamides were successfully converted to desired difluoromethylated oxindoles in good to excellent yields.

Abstract:A light-induced intramolecular iodine-atom transfer radical addition was reported toward iodine-substituted fluorene derivatives. A thioxanthone derivative was employed as a visible light sensitizer for this 5-exo-dig exclusive radical addition, and the newly formed vinyl iodide compounds were further proved to be effective partners for several cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract:An effective photoredox-mediated tandem phosphorylation/cyclization reaction of diphenylphosphine oxide with three types of radical acceptors leads to P(O)Ph2-containing phenanthridines, isoquinolines, and indolin-2-ones by formation of both C-P and C-C bonds. [Ir(ppy)2(dtbpy)]PF6 (1 mol %) was used as the catalyst, CsF or Cs2CO3 as the base, and K2S2O8 as the oxidant. A series of functional groups can be tolerated at room temperature. Moderate to good yields were generated.

Abstract:An efficient three-component radical iodosulfonylative cyclization of enynes is described. The visible-light irradiation of iodoform with sulfinates enables sulfonyl radical generation under catalyst- and oxidant-free conditions and triggers the radical addition, cyclization and iodination cascade reactions, giving various vinyl iodide containing sulfones in moderate to good yields.

Abstract:Visible-light-induced dearomatization reaction via energy-transfer mechanism is an emerging strategy for the synthesis of highly strained polycyclic molecules. Transient, high-energy diradical species are typically involved in this type of reaction as key intermediates. Herein, we report the visible-light-induced divergent dearomatization of indole-tethered O-methyl oximes, in which the reactions of the open-shelled singlet diradical intermediates toward competitive [2 + 2] cycloaddition or 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer can be achieved with exclusive selectivity. The mechanism has been well supported by a series of experimental and computational investigations. Abstract:We successfully developed an unprecedented synthesis route to pyrido[1,2- a ]indol-6(7 H )-ones through a visible light-photocatalyzed formal (4 + 2) cycloaddition of indole-derived bromides and alkenes or alkynes in a microchannel reactor. This novel protocol features extremely mild conditions, a broad substrate scope and high reaction efficiency. In addition, a reasonable reaction mechanism based on controlled experiments was proposed.
