Abstract:This paper discribes test results of an industrial demonstration plant using ash agglomeration fluid bed for gasification of pulverized coal.Use of the fluidization technology in the presence of oxygen steam mixture as a promotor in the engineering that deals well with establishment of fluid bed,dedusting and slag discharge at elevated temperatures,application of high temperature resistant valves and abrasion resistant refractories,and recovery of waste heat.Compared with fixed bed gasification process,the cost per tone of ammonia can be reduced by 172 Yuan,resulting in better economic and environmental benefits.

Abstract:In view of troublesome problems influencing upon the safety of lowgrade bituminous coal firing boilers with hot air for sending pulverized coal and centralized allocatioin of the primary air, such as firecarrying in the primary air jet orifice, and slagging on the waterwall in zone of burners etc., occured after enhancement of volatile and heat value in the coal, a scheme for solving the said problems by admixing exhaust gas has been put forward. The results of design calculation combined with typical boilers, as well as test and study on the admixer of exhaust gas and hot air show that the exhaust gas can be admixed with hot air in a large proportional range, making the implementation of the said scheme to be possible.

Abstract:Many coal gasification related accidents happened in China recently. Investigations of the accidents show that the performance of safety barriers and the risk influence factors contributing to it plays an important role. Lack of attention on the performance of safety barriers and associated risk influence factors hinder the thorough understanding of these accidents and, therefore, needs to be addressed by providing a new analysis methodology. Herein, we developed an approach from critical events and safety barriers to control the major hazards during the coal gasification process. The method consists of process hazard identification based on critical events, barrier performance evaluation based on barrier diagrams, and quantification of risk influence factors based on Bayesian network. The application of the method indicates that it is suitable for controlling major hazards of the coal gasification process as well as other chemical processes. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers Process Saf Prog 36: 382–391, 2017

Abstract:In response to the problem that traditional gas control methods such as water injection and inert gas fire extinguishing are not effective and have a high level of risk in goaf, this study uses COMSOL software to establish a three-dimensional numerical simulation model of goaf, and combines air leakage intensity, oxygen concentration, and floating coal thickness to calculate the gas fire hazard area, in order to achieve effective control. The results show that the deviation between the data obtained from the numerical simulation and the actual measurement value is about 7 m, which proves that the given solution is reliable. The gas concentration of the wind lane and the upper corner is controlled below 1%, which proves that this method ensures the safety of the working environment. The above results show that the design method realizes the effective control of gas fire in the goaf, and provides reference for mine safety management and gas disaster control.

Abstract:The coal mine ground gas transportation system is widely used for gas transportation and mixing preheating in the gas storage and oxidation utilization system. However, gas or coal dust explosions may occur, which could result in heavy casualties and significant economic losses. To prevent accidents in the gas transportation system, the present study takes the gas transportation system of Shanxi Yiyang Energy Company as an example to identify the composition and hazardous factors of the gas transportation system. Fault tree analysis (FTA) models were established with pipeline gas and coal dust explosions as the top events, and the importance of each basic event was quantitatively analyzed using the fuzzy fault tree analysis (FFTA) method. The results show that gas and coal dust explosion accidents are mostly caused by the combination of high-temperature ignition sources and explosive materials. The uneven mixing gas and the ventilation carrying a large amount of coal dust are the fundamental causes of coal mining accidents. Consequently, based on the general pipeline safety measures, gas indirect preheating, ventilation air methane in dust removal, and gas intelligent mixing and regulation were proposed to enhance the safety of the gas transportation system.

Accident statistics from related departments, gas explosions have accounted for seven in the coal accidents in which ten or more people was killed, it was known as the "king of mine disasters". Abstract:The safe operation of 125 MW units with hot-air conveying pulverized coal and centralized primary air is affected by the following problems such as fire-carrying in the primary air nozzle and slagging on the water-wall around burners etc. with the increasing of volatile and heat value. Generally, the pressurized cold air is added to prevent the fire-carrying, however, the exhaust gas temperature is increased by 15 ℃ or so than normal condition and the boiler efficiency reducing about 1%. Another effective way to eliminate fire-carrying is to use thick/thin phase burner to re-design the structure, with large circumferential, reducing the bluff body and adjusting the tangential of the primary incorporation. The practical application of #10 boiler in the TianShengGang Power Plant indicated that the fire-carrying problem was solved effectively without adding cold air, in spite of the volatile and heat value of the coal were somewhat increased, and the carbon fraction in fly ash and exhaust gas temperature decreased by 2.55% and 20.5 ℃ respectively, the boiler efficiency increased 2.69%. Based on this, the direct annual economic benefits will be more than 4 million, and the coal adaptability and stable combustion ability can be improved greatly.

Abstract:The 11101 working face of Qipanjing Mine was taken as the research object to explore the dynamic change law of the spontaneous combustion of the remaining coal in the gob-side entry retaining goaf area. A sealed oxygen consumption experiment was conducted to determine the (critical) oxygen volume fraction in the suffocation zone and continuous oxygen consumption rate of coal samples. The parameters of the working face were measured on site, and the air volume fraction in the goaf was monitored using a beam tube. Considering upward ventilation and the effect of gravity, a UDF control program for the falling medium in the gob-side entry retaining goaf was written. Based on the experimental results, a control program for the continuous oxygen consumption rate of the remnant coal was compiled, the dynamic distribution of the flow field in the gob-side entry retaining goaf was simulated with different advancing positions and air leakage at the working face, and a prediction model for the spontaneous combustion danger area was established. Finally, fire prevention measures via grouting in the return air lane side and nitrogen injection in the retaining lane side were put forward. The results showed that with the variation in the advancing position of the working face or in the air leakage of the air intake lane, the range of the natural hazardous area of the gob-side entry retaining goaf presents a distribution with a power function S F = x n +b (0 < n < 1). The theoretically proposed fire-fighting measures can effectively reduce the risk of spontaneous combustion of coal.

Abstract:Gasification fine slag (GS) is a kind of solid waste produced in the process of coal gasification. Due to its high annual production and large accumulation, it is potentially harmful to air quality and groundwater, and has certain impact on human health, so resource utilization of coal gasification slag is an urgent problem at present. Combustion is considered as a cost-effective way for GS utilization. In this paper, the combustion characteristics and fuel matching of GS mixed with different coalification degree coal (lignite, bituminous coal, anthracite) were studied. The combustion of three kinds of mixed fuels was analyzed by thermogravimetric data, conventional combustion characteristic parameters, activation energy and statistical principal component analysis (PCA). The kinetic analysis shows that the co-combustion with coal effectively reduces the activation energy of GS, and the activation energy increases with the increase of coalification degree. The results of PCA analysis show that with the increase of coalification degree, the matching of mixed fuel is improved, and the low rank coal is mainly affected by the addition ratio, while the influence of the heating rate of high rank coal is more significant. The results of this study can provide some guidance for the co-combustion of GS.

Abstract:The advancement of biomass-circulating fluidized bed (CFB) gasification technology in China for commercialization and industrial application is still in its initial stages, characterized by extensive theoretical studies; however, there is limited documentation of its actual industrial operational characteristics. This study analyzes the operational challenges encountered in a 5 t/h biomass CFB gasifier at a rice factory in Jiangsu Province, China. It examines critical issues emerging during the gasifier system's actual operational process, including the obstruction of the feeding system, the measurement of pressure at point blockages in the dense phase zone, loop seal blockages, bed inventory leakage of the blast cap on the air distribution plate, and gasification parameter fluctuations. Practical improvement strategies and implementation plans are proposed to address these operational concerns. The outcomes of this analysis serve as a reference for the design and operation of biomass CFB gasifiers. Furthermore, they provide crucial guidance for more extensive large-scale implementation of biomass CFB gasifiers.

Abstract:Coal spontaneous combustion significantly threatens the mine production safety. This paper focuses on the practical aspects of the disaster within the sealed goaf of Pingmei No. 11 mine. Obtained the characteristic parameters of spontaneous combustion in goaf by arranging high-level drilling field and drilling method. The grey correlation analysis method was applied to analyze the determination index of the effective characterization of the hidden spontaneous combustion area range, and interpolation aided in assessing these indicators before and after the increase amount of N2 injection. All showed that the hidden spontaneous combustion area was determined to be 70–80 m away from the return air side and 10–15 m away from the stop line, and the comprehensive treatment technologies are executed to control the spontaneous combustion hazards, including injecting inert gas to cool the high-temperature area, injecting the aqueous foam to cover the fire source, and plugging leakage to isolation the O2. Finally, the O2 concentration in goaf dropped below 5.0%, and carbon monoxide concentration fell below 0.001% after implementing these methods, effectively controlling the coal spontaneous combustion disaster. The successful management of concealed coal spontaneous combustion disasters offers a valuable reference for identifying and efficiently addressing such incidents in goaf areas.

Combustibility and Cofiring of Coal Gasification Fine Ash with High Carbon Content in a Full-scale Pulverized Coal Furnace

Abstract:Coal gasification fine ash (CGFA) having a high carbon content is produced in large quantity as a byproduct from coal gasifiers in China. CGFA is usually disposed of by landfill as a solid waste, which is not only detrimental to environment but also a loss of an enormous energy that renders the process inefficient. Therefore, it is crucial to make use of the high carbon content in the CGFA with an economic and environmentally friendly method. In this study, the ignition and burnout behavior of CGFA were investigated via a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), flat-flame burner (FFB), and drop-tube furnace (DTF). Further, the cofiring of CGFA was numerically studied in a tangentially fired pulverized coal boiler burning anthracite with various cofiring ratios (0%, 10%, 20%, and 30%). The TGA results show the similar oxidation reactivity, oxidation kinetics, and ignition behavior of CGFA with the anthracite. In the FFB atmosphere with practical heating rates, the CGFA and anthracite are both heterogeneously ignited with an ignition time of 8.1 and 7.6 ms, respectively. The particle size significantly affected the ignition time of CGFA, as the particle size decreased from 125 to 135 μm to 45–63 μm and the ignition time of CGFA decreased from 10.1 to 5.6 ms. The burnout test in DTF indicates that the promising burnout performance in a pulverized coal furnace required a crucial oxygen concentration >10%, and the CFD simulation results coincided well with the experimental data from DTF. The CFD modeling results of the full-scale furnace show that the cofiring of CGFA is feasible in the pulverized coal furnace burning anthracite. Compared with the mode of pure anthracite combustion, under the cofiring mode with 10–30% CGFA as the energy input, the central maximum temperature of the main combustion zone increases by 50–90 °C, resulting in the slightly improved burnout for both anthracite and CGFA.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Factory explosion accidents not only cause damages of factory facilities and equipment, or casualties usually, but also cause fire disaster due to various reasons, resulting in larger losses. After the occurrence of accidents, timely, accurate, and efficient response is an urgent need to protect the safety of people's lives and property. A hazardous Factory Explosion accident in North China in 2019 was taken as an example by this paper. It conducts research from four aspects, including the basic situation of the accident, the handling of the explosion accident, and the analysis of the cause of explosion accident. The useful advice and efficient disposal methods of accidents, the enhancement of disaster prevention and disaster relief capabilities, and the formation of a long-term mechanism to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property are expounded in this paper, in order to provide a reference for similar accident management.

Abstract:Fire hazard-risk area in small coal pits can be found in the southern part of the Shigetai Coal Mine, a close-distance coal seam mining sector in the Shendong mining area, which is susceptible to the risk of harmful toxic gas intrusion, seriously threatening the safety of mining around the working surface. Aiming at this problem, a numerical model representing the mining activity on the close-distance coal seams was established to simulate the movement pattern of overlying strata and the development process of fractures based on the horizontal stress “normalization” technology. Also, the principal air-leak passageways were detected with the SF6 tracer analysis. On this basis, the influencing pattern of harmful toxic gas intruding into the working surface can be comprehensively analyzed, providing a basis for effectively preventing and controlling gas intrusion disasters. The research findings show that, after a lower coal seam has been mined, the caving zone ranges from 73 m to 94 m in height, and the fractured zone tends to develop all the way to the surface. Furthermore, shear fractures are the major passageways for air leakage, and the occurrence of gas intrusion disasters is basically taking place at the same time frame as the occurrence of roof weighting. Meanwhile, the harmful toxic gas intrudes the working surface through the fractures on the security coal pillars and shear fractures on the overlying strata. To prevent intrusion disasters from occurring, the applications of inorganic foaming and curing materials for filling were studied in combination with the actual engineering conditions. The construction grounds in sections where the fire hazard-risk area in small coal pits have not been stripped were drilled, and filling materials were poured into the goaf to create an isolation belt. As can be observed from the applied areas, constructing isolation belts to block the major air-leak passageways can effectively prevent the harmful toxic gases from intruding into the working surface, ensuring the safety of mining on the working surface.

Abstract:Abstract In view of the coupling problem of gas and coal spontaneous combustion in goaf of 2302 coal mining face in Weijiadi Coal Mine in Jingyuan Coal Area, if the control is not in place, it may cause serious accidents such as gas explosion. By means of fluent simulation, the spontaneous combustion period and oxygen distribution of residual coal in goaf are obtained, and the minimum advancing speed of coal mining face to prevent spontaneous combustion in goaf is calculated to be 1.43m/d. By implementing fire prevention measures such as blocking air leakage in upper and lower corners, grouting and nitrogen injection in goaf, the oxygen concentration in goaf is controlled within 11%, and the spontaneous combustion zone of oxidation is fast. Transferring to asphyxiation zone and preventing the residual coal from firing in goaf are of great significance for ensuring the safety of mine production.

Abstract:Coal spontaneous combustion in the gob poses a significant threat to coal mining operations. Designing optimal process parameters for nitrogen injection to prevent and control fires efficiently is crucial. To achieve this, a multi-field coupling equation was established, considering the adsorption of coal to gas. The model's accuracy was verified on-site, and the effects of nitrogen injection at different locations and flow rates were simulated. The optimal injection parameters were determined by analyzing temperature and inerting time. The results showed that the coal spontaneous combustion hazardous zone in the gob tested on-site was consistent with the simulation from the perspective of physisorption. Nitrogen injection had three stages: gas expansion, rapid oxygen dilution, and complete inerting. The nitrogen injection effect presented a nonlinear change in injection location and flow rate. The optimal nitrogen injection location for the Tingnan Coal Mine in Shaanxi was determined to be 90 m behind the working face on the inlet side, with an optimal flow rate of 800 m 3 /min. This study focused on gas adsorption and offered valuable insights for creating high-efficiency fire-fighting techniques that involve inserting in the gob.
