Abstract:A facile and highly chemoselective protocol for the synthesis of benzil derivatives has been developed by oxidation of stilbenes in an I-2-H2O system under air. Abstract:<p>The first HFIP-promoted catalyst-free cascade reactions for the synthesis of biologically relevant 3,3-di(indolyl)indolin-2-ones (27 examples, up to 98% yield) from readily available indoles and isatin derivatives are described. This protocol shows well tolerance of different functional groups and features extremely mild reaction conditions such as short reaction time (∼ 1 h), no usage of catalyst, easy operation and product isolation. Of particular interest is the formation of two C-C bonds and one all-carbon quaternary center. This protocol could serve as an alternative strategy to synthesize biologically important 3,3-di(indolyl)indolin-2-ones for biological testing.</p>

Abstract:An efficient [bis-(trifluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene (PIFA)-mediated oxidative C-N bond formation is developed for the synthesis of 1H-indazoles from readily available arylhydrazones. The reaction tolerates a wide range of functional groups and has broad scope of substrates. Moreover, this method is a relative green and reliable method for rapid preparation of substituted 1H-indazoles under mild conditions.

Abstract:We report an efficient synthetic route for the synthesis of tetrahydro indole 2,4-dionesfrom readily available β-enaminones and glyoxal and subsequent I2/DMSO-mediated oxidation/aromatization of tetrahydro indole 2,4-dione to produce 4-hydroxyisatin derivatives. The key aspect of this protocol includes the dual catalytic activity of molecular iodine in presence of DMSO. Mechanistic study suggested this reaction is substrate selective as corresponding aromatization and sp3 C-H oxidation stops in presence of 6,6-disubstituted tetrahydro indole 2,4-dione. Additionally, a thorough investigation into the synthesis of tetrahydro indole 2,4-dione followsacid-catalyzedcyclization/dehydration/enol-keto tautomerism from β-enaminones and glyoxal.

Abstract:A cost-effective, highly regioselective and metal-free version for the synthesis of indolizine derivatives by means of Tf2O-mediated cascade reaction of pyridyl-enaminones and thiophenols/thioalcohols under mild reaction conditions has been reported. Diverse electron-rich indolizine derivatives could be obtained in up to 94% yield via the selective 1,4-addition of vinyl iminium triflate tandem cyclization/aromatization, which allowed the simultaneous construction of C-N and C-S/and one example of C-Se bonds.

Abstract:An unexpected isomerization of azomethine ylides generated in situ from isatin with indoline-2-carboxylic acid has been disclosed, providing direct access to N -functionalized indole scaffolds. This protocol has good functional group tolerance and provides various 3-(1 H -indol-1-yl)indolin-2-one derivatives in moderate to high yields simply by using alcohol as the solvent, with no additional additive being required.

Abstract:Herein, we report an unexpected cascade ring expansion/annulation reaction between 4-diazo-1,4-dihydroisoquinolin-3-ones and a variety of isatin derivatives in the presence of Sc(OTf)3 catalyst. A series of novel indolobenzazepinones were synthesized in good to excellent yields with the exclusion of nitrogen and carbon dioxide gases. High bond-forming efficiency, novel reaction mechanism, readily available starting materials, commercially available cheap catalyst, broad substrate scope, and mild reaction conditions are the prominent features of this method.

Abstract:Considering the importance of developing powerful catalysts and the pharmacophore characteristics of indole derivatives, we described a switchable approach for the iron-catalyzed oxidative C(sp3)–H functionalization of indolin-2-ones. Selective transformations displayed excellent activity and chemoselectivity using FeCl2 as the catalyst, air as the oxidant, and alcohol as the solvent. By manipulating the reaction conditions, particularly the choice of solvent, catalyst loading, and reaction sequence, a series of valuable indole derivatives, including isatins and symmetrical and nonsymmetrical isoindigos, were selectively synthesized in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, the gram-scale synthesis of compounds with biological anticancer activity under simple conditions highlights their great potential in practical applications.

Abstract:Three-component reactions of 2-alkynylbenzaldehydes, amines, and indoles catalyzed by AgOTf under mild conditions afford the 1-(1H-indol-3-yl)-1,2-dihydroisoquinolines in good yields. This silver-catalyzed tandem reaction is found to be workable with various indoles, anilines or alkyl amines, and 2-alkynylbenzaldehydes with electron-withdrawing groups attached on the aromatic backbone.
