Abstract:In the situation of gradual globalization, communication and interaction between various languages and conventions have become more frequent. The reflection of the difference between Chinese and Western thinking in linguistic and cultural diversity has become more apparent and essential. By doing this, people can have a further comprehension of the values, cognitive styles, and social habits behind different cultures and languages. In recent research, it has been shown that there are differences in language expression between China and the West, as well as differences in personal values and time. The author would like to research the differences between Chinese and Western ways of thinking in language, the differences in social etiquette and ways of interacting with the different values and cognitive styles. The purpose of the research is to assist people better cope with the challenges of cultural conflicts and exchanges and to foster mutual cooperation among different cultures. The research method used in this paper is the literature review, and the significance of the research is that it not only can help people better cope with and conform to this difference in thinking between China and the West, but it also improves the international communication capacity of future students.

Abstract:With the advancement of technology and the societies, cross-cultural communication among diverse cultures has become increasingly frequent, which promotes the mutual learning of different cultures. Meanwhile, the cross-cultural misunderstandings and conflicts caused by cultural differences will continue to increase, resulting in cultural barriers. Hence, there is a growing sense of urgency that we need to enhance our understandings of people among different cultures and ethnic backgrounds which is conducive to eliminating cultural misconceptions. This study focuses upon the cultural differences in social hierarchy, interpersonal relationship, human-nature relationship as well as sense of time between China and the West from the perspective of Hofstede’s cultural dimension theory, whose aim is to trace back to the roots of cultural differences, thus eliminating cultural misunderstandings to a certain extent and facilitating cultural exchanges between China and the West.

Abstract:In the age of globalization along with more frequent cross-cultural interactions, the importance of translation cannot be understated. Translation plays a vital role in facilitating intercultural communication between different countries and cultures. Through translation, people can understand and learn the culture, history, traditions and customs of other countries. Therefore, this paper explores the influence of Chinese and English cultural customs and translation through the study of literature and case studies. It is found that cultural practices have a great impact on language shaping and expression, and there are many difficulties in translating culture-specific terms and cultural customs. In order to better realize the communication and diffusion of cultures and translate effectively, translators need to be sensitive to cultural differences and thoroughly research the similarities and differences among cultures.

In the process of learning a new language, individuals face numerous difficulties and challenges due to this cultural diversity. language and culture are closely interconnected. This article examines the specific challenges encountered by non-native speakers of Chinese when learning the Chinese language, arising from cultural differences, with a particular focus on the domains of translation and literature. Abstract:As an international Chinese language teacher who will go overseas for internship, it is very necessary to master the discourse rules in different cultural backgrounds, which plays a crucial role in the smooth implementation of intercultural communication. In this paper, through the author's four personal experiences of cross-cultural communication, as four cases of analyzing the discourse rules of cross-cultural communication, we will combine the relevant discourse rules and authoritative communication theories, such as Grice's principle of conversational cooperation, Edward-T-Hall's theory of high-context and low-context culture, Leech's principle of politeness, Brown and Levinson's theory of face, and so on, to analyze the discourse rules of appellative speech, introduction speech, greeting speech, etc. The differences in language terms such as appellative speech, introductory speech, greeting speech, invitation speech, request speech, compliment speech, and thank you speech are compared and explained, and the cultural conflicts and cultural communication phenomena involved are specifically analyzed.

Abstract:In cross-cultural communication, different cultures’ ways of interpretations of information can result in significant communication barriers. The disparities between high-context cultures, exemplified by Chinese, and low-context cultures, exemplified by English, are typically evident in the context of language use rather than the surface meaning of words. The same words can be interpreted differently across cultural contexts, leading to frequent misunderstandings. These communication misunderstandings can be categorized into three situations: different approaches to handling ambiguous language, the use of referential and non-referential language in different cultures. By deeply analyzing and comparing the pragmatic manifestations of high-context and low-context cultures in these aspects, it is evident that cross-cultural communication problems often stem from distinct cultural backgrounds and language habits. Solving these problems requires not only understanding the words themselves but also deeply grasping the underlying cultural logic and practices.
