Abstract:Dissimilarity and similarity are two basic concepts that the study of translation frequently touches upon. The untranslatable is usually traceable to dissimilarity, and the translatable, to similarity. Correspondingly, the unity of opposites between the two profoundly exhibits a comprehensive picture of translation. This paper, proceeding with the definition of dissimilarity, probes into the relationship between selfness and otherness to reveal the cross-cultural essence of translation. Confronted with the contradiction between dissimilarity and similarity, one must consider these important factors: expression of cultural positions as well as cultural reconstruction, and the translation strategies of foreignization and domestication.

Abstract:In the age of globalization along with more frequent cross-cultural interactions, the importance of translation cannot be understated. Translation plays a vital role in facilitating intercultural communication between different countries and cultures. Through translation, people can understand and learn the culture, history, traditions and customs of other countries. Therefore, this paper explores the influence of Chinese and English cultural customs and translation through the study of literature and case studies. It is found that cultural practices have a great impact on language shaping and expression, and there are many difficulties in translating culture-specific terms and cultural customs. In order to better realize the communication and diffusion of cultures and translate effectively, translators need to be sensitive to cultural differences and thoroughly research the similarities and differences among cultures.

Abstract:Previous studies have indicated that divergence exists in translation, which influences the quality of translation; such divergence follows some regularity which can be modeled by a probability distribution. The present article chose one verb dao from a Chinese literary classic Hongloumeng, and its English translation said to determine whether the frequencies of the two verbs develop according to a diversification process. Furthermore, we tend to find differences between the two English versions of Hawkes and Yang Xianyi regarding dao's translation, and we also investigated the role of the three causes of divergence in the diversification process. The result indicates that both dao's translations and the original text of said is in good agreement with the modified right-truncated Zipf-Alekseev distribution. Three major reasons were found for causing differences between the two translations: the nature of language, translators' subjectivity, and context. These are also the three major reasons for the diversification and differences of the two translated versions.

Abstract:In the context of globalization, different national cultures compete, reject, collide and merge in the process of communication, but these will ultimately be reflected on the issue of cultural identity. With the development and implementation of the ＂going out＂ strategy of Chinese culture, foreign translation of traditional Chinese culture has become increasingly important and urgent. From the perspective of self-cultural identity and cultural identity, this article quotes examples of ancient, modern and modern traditional cultural translation, and uses the academic ideological results of related disciplines as the inheritance and development of previous studies, and uses this as a guide. It also investigates and researches the bidirectional development of cultural identity in the context of traditional cultural translation. Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to provide a discussion of some of the basic differences and similarities between the Chinese and Western traditions of translation. After analysing some of the major findings about what is shared and what is unshared between the two traditions, as well as what lies beneath these differences and similarities, four basic conclusions are made; namely, (a) comparative translation studies is important and should be fully developed; (b) the differences between the Chinese and Western translation traditions are necessarily conditioned by differences in their broader socio-cultural framework; (c) quite similar ideas have been produced over the centuries between China and the West, which may be regarded as elements of ‘universality' as the most outstanding feature of theoretical discussions about translation across language-cultures; and most importantly, (d) an understanding of Chinese-Western differences and similarities should help create a meaningful environment in which translators and translation theorists from different traditions can draw upon one another's experiences. The rationale of the discussion is that by bringing culturally disparate translation traditions such as the Chinese and Western into comparison, important insights may be gained about the nature of translation and translation studies in general.

Abstract:By exploring the cultural discrepancies in Chinese legal texts and their English versions and to what extent legal and cultural discrepancies influence and constrain legal translation, the study argues that it is useful to consider cultural discrepancies within a semiotic framework. Language is a phenomenon and factor that links different cultures; the use of language is crucial to any legal system. Law, as a cultural product, is attended by cultural discrepancies when switched into other languages for the purpose of achieving equivalence. After a brief overview of cultural differences in translation, legal translation in particular, the study is set to examine the role of translation in crossing through different legal cultures and backgrounds and investigate barriers in the process of translation. Investigating cultural discrepancies in legal translation within a semiotic framework allows us to focus on certain interpretations by acknowledging that legal texts are composed with systems of systems and interacting with other cultural aspects in a wider context.

Abstract:This paper uses the English translation of the well-known Chinese classic novel Hong Lou Meng as a case study to examine the difficulties and approaches associated with cross-cultural translation in literary works. The translation of festival names, the translation of idioms, and the translation regarding women make up the three sections of this work. Through a comparative investigation of the translation procedures of various versions, this research exposes the difficulties experienced in cross-cultural translation, including semantic change, cultural transmission, and feminist translation. It also suggests suitable translation techniques. It has been noted that translators must consider the cultural differences between the source and destination languages when translating between cultures. They are expected to utilize diverse translation techniques with flexibility to ensure the efficient conveyance of cultural information and optimize the literary value of the translated work.

Abstract:In the current society, people are living in an era of cross-cultural communication, where they are influenced by a variety of cultural differences. In the process of learning a new language, individuals face numerous difficulties and challenges due to this cultural diversity. language and culture are closely interconnected. This article examines the specific challenges encountered by non-native speakers of Chinese when learning the Chinese language, arising from cultural differences, with a particular focus on the domains of translation and literature. After reviewing previous literature, the main arguments of this paper are: 1) Language is closely tied to culture; 2) There are significant differences in expression between Chinese and English; 3) Translation often lacks precision in terms of vocabulary; 4) Learners easily overlook context, leading to misunderstandings; 5) The use of imagery in Chinese and Western literature differs;6) The origins and preferences in the development of Chinese and Western literature diverge. Consequently, it sheds light on the efforts required by educators and learners involved in intercultural Chinese language communication.

Abstract:By analyzing and comparing the sources and features of cultural approaches to translation studies in China and in Western countries, this article discusses research targets, methodologies and problems of cultural research in Chinese translatology. It points out that new theories, including Western translation theories, broadens the horizon of China's translation studies while, at the same time, cultural research in China's translation studies must be based on China's own conditions and aim at solving China's own practical problems. In this respect, it suggests that Chinese researchers pay more attention to descriptive studies as well as proper assessment and analysis of translation activities and products.

Abstract:The concept of transculturalism has often been used to describe the increasingly complicated interactions between different cultures under the circumstances of globalization. It is also widely used in international communication and intercultural studies in China, and is often translated into different Chinese concepts such as "跨文化" "超越文化" "转文化". How can we better understand the meaning of this concept in different academic contexts? This paper discovered that this concept was developed as criticism of post-colonialism and that of Western cultural studies reflecting a worldview that is centered on Euro-centrism. The Chinese translation of transculturalism should accordingly vary in different academic discourses. The concept is of great significance to promote cultural equality, cultural connection and respect, cultural exchange and mutual learning. However, cultural competition and western-centrism embedded in Welsch's definition of transculturalism is worthy of attention.

Abstract:Intercultural communication has always been an important concept and core hot-spot in the field of intercultural research. In the early 1980s, Chinese scholars introduced the study of intercultural communication. The study of intercultural communication in China has formed a trend of cross-integration with the disciplines including Language Teaching, Translation Studies and Culturology, etc., after about 40 years of development. Thanks to the differences between Chinese and English, there are still many issues in translation on intercultural communication. Therefore, this research focuses on the in-depth analysis of three types of differences in the English translated text of Song of a Pipa Player from the perspective of intercultural communication to put forward corresponding translation strategies for intercultural communication and offer some help to the translation among different cultures.

Abstract:In the situation of gradual globalization, communication and interaction between various languages and conventions have become more frequent. The reflection of the difference between Chinese and Western thinking in linguistic and cultural diversity has become more apparent and essential. By doing this, people can have a further comprehension of the values, cognitive styles, and social habits behind different cultures and languages. In recent research, it has been shown that there are differences in language expression between China and the West, as well as differences in personal values and time. The author would like to research the differences between Chinese and Western ways of thinking in language, the differences in social etiquette and ways of interacting with the different values and cognitive styles. The purpose of the research is to assist people better cope with the challenges of cultural conflicts and exchanges and to foster mutual cooperation among different cultures. The research method used in this paper is the literature review, and the significance of the research is that it not only can help people better cope with and conform to this difference in thinking between China and the West, but it also improves the international communication capacity of future students.
