Abstract:A new dimeric guaianolide (8) and a new glaucolide (3), a seco-guaiaretic acid (4), two guaianolides (6 and 7), and five known sesquiterpene lactones (1, 2, 5, 9, and 10) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia anomala. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analysis. In addition, their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines and anti-COX-2 effects in vitro were evaluated.

Abstract:Two new guaianolides, namely, 3β,8α-dihydroxy-13-methoxyl-4(14),10(15)-dien-(1αH,5αH,6β H,11βH)-12,6-olide (1) and 3β,8α-dihydroxy-13-methoxyl-4(14),10(15)-dien-(1αH,5αH,6β H,11αH)-12,6-olide (2), together with six known guaianolides, 8-hydroxyzaluzanin C, austricin, chlorojanerin, cynaropicrin, chlorohyssopifolin E and chlorohyssopifolin A were isolated from the aerial parts of Saussurea alata. The structures were established mainly based on spectral analysis, especially 2D NMR techniques.

Abstract:The aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana afforded, in addition to β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and daucosterol, two novel lignans as well as one known and three new guaianolides. The roots of Inula racemosa gave β-sitosterol, daucosterol and isoalantolactone. The structures were determined by a combination of spectral methods (IR, EIMS, 1H and 13C NMR, DEPT, COSY, NOESY and HETCOR). All isolates were subjected to antifungal tests. Isoalantolactone, a major sesquiterpene lactone of I. racemosa, was found to be active against the human pathogenic fungi, Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Geotrichum candidum, Candida tropicalis and C. albicans at concentrations of 50, 50, 25, 25 and 25 μg\ml, respectively. The taxonomic significance of the characterized constituents is discussed briefly.

Abstract:A new eudesmanolide and seven sesquiterpene lactones with a new carbon skeleton were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia santolinifolia. Four of the new compounds were partially degraded. The biogenesis of these compounds is discussed. Furthermore, several glucopyranosides were present, three derived from phenolics, two from thujane, one from vomifoliol A and one from dimethylvinylcarbinol. The structures were elucidated by high field NMR techniques.

Abstract:This study was performed to investigate the guaianolides from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by chromatographic columns over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and ODS, as well as Semi-prep HPLC methods, and their structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Ten compounds were isolated and identified as follows: artemyriantholide E (1), tanaphillin (2), 1β, 10β-epoxydehydroleucodin (3), 5-hydroxyleucodin (4), dehydrocostuslactone (5), 3-O-methyl-iso-secotanapartholide (6), roxbughianin A (7), dehydroleucodin (8), arglabin (9), and 8α-acetoxyarglabin (10). Compound 1 was a new compound, and compounds 2-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 3 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human liver cancer (Bel-7402) with IC₅₀ value of 5.35 μmol·L⁻¹, and 6 against human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ value of 2.68 μmol·L⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:Chemical exploration of Artemisia myriantha Wall. ex Bess (Asteraceae) aerial parts afforded one new seco-guaianolide (1) and one new germacranolide (2). Structure elucidation of the new compounds was unambiguously performed based on HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. The two new compounds exhibited in vitro strong cytotoxic activities against human cancer cell lines HCT-8 with IC50 values of 0.76 and 0.28 μM, respectively.

Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Six new guaiane sesquiterpenoids, rupestonic acids B–G (1–6), have been isolated from the whole plants of Artemisia rupestris together with six known compounds (7–12). The structures of the new isolates (1–6) were elucidated on the basis of extensive 1D and 2D NMR analysis, and the absolute configurations were established by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) in combination with density functional theory calculations. In in vitro bioassays, compounds 2 and 6 exhibited significant inhibitory effects on LPS-stimulated NO production in BV-2 microglial cells with IC50 values of 2.6 and 2.2μM, respectively.

Abstract:A new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, torilolone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with a known analogue compound, torilolone 11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), was isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation. The cytotoxic activities of two isolated compounds were evaluated against two human gastric cancer cell lines BGC-823 and AGS using MTT assay.

Abstract:A new sesquiterpene, rupestrisin A (1), and three new thiophene derivatives, rupestrienes A–C (2–4), were isolated from Artemisia rupestris. Their structures were determined by analyses of MS and NMR spectroscopic data, and the absolute configuration of 1 was established by calculated ECD spectra using time-dependent density functional theory. In in vitro bioassays, compounds 1–4 showed inhibitory effects on LPS-stimulated NO production in BV-2 microglial cells with IC50 values of 24.3, 20.3, 8.5, and 5.3 μM, respectively.

Abstract:Four new guaiane-type sesquiterpene, Artemisia integrifolia A (1), Artemisia integrifolia B (2), Artemisia integrifolia C (3), and Artemisia integrifolia D (4), along with ten known related analogues, were isolated from Artemisia integrifolia. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis including UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The cytotoxicity of these compounds against human cancer HeLa cells were evaluated. Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.
