Abstract:A new mixture of epimeric isomers furanosesquiterpenes (1 and 1a), together with two known furanosesquiterpenes were isolated from Xanthopappus subacaulis, which was used as Tibetan medicine in China. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data including UV, IR, MS and NMR. The biosynthetic pathway of furanosesquiterpenes is proposed and the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds is also discussed.

Abstract:A new dimeric guaianolide (8) and a new glaucolide (3), a seco-guaiaretic acid (4), two guaianolides (6 and 7), and five known sesquiterpene lactones (1, 2, 5, 9, and 10) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia anomala. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analysis. In addition, their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines and anti-COX-2 effects in vitro were evaluated.

Abstract:This study was performed to investigate the guaianolides from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by chromatographic columns over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, and ODS, as well as Semi-prep HPLC methods, and their structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Ten compounds were isolated and identified as follows: artemyriantholide E (1), tanaphillin (2), 1β, 10β-epoxydehydroleucodin (3), 5-hydroxyleucodin (4), dehydrocostuslactone (5), 3-O-methyl-iso-secotanapartholide (6), roxbughianin A (7), dehydroleucodin (8), arglabin (9), and 8α-acetoxyarglabin (10). Compound 1 was a new compound, and compounds 2-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 3 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human liver cancer (Bel-7402) with IC₅₀ value of 5.35 μmol·L⁻¹, and 6 against human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ value of 2.68 μmol·L⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:The aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana afforded, in addition to β-sitosterol, stigmasterol and daucosterol, two novel lignans as well as one known and three new guaianolides. The roots of Inula racemosa gave β-sitosterol, daucosterol and isoalantolactone. The structures were determined by a combination of spectral methods (IR, EIMS, 1H and 13C NMR, DEPT, COSY, NOESY and HETCOR). All isolates were subjected to antifungal tests. Isoalantolactone, a major sesquiterpene lactone of I. racemosa, was found to be active against the human pathogenic fungi, Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Geotrichum candidum, Candida tropicalis and C. albicans at concentrations of 50, 50, 25, 25 and 25 μg\ml, respectively. The taxonomic significance of the characterized constituents is discussed briefly.

Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:A chemical investigation of the aerial parts of Artemisia vestita Wall. led to the isolation of 12 known sesquiterpenes, including2 furan-containing sesquiterpenoids and 10 eudesmane sesquiterpene lactones. Their structures were identified as negunfurol(1),schensianol A(2), artemine(3), erivanin(4), 1,5-diepi-artemin(5), acetylartemin(6), naphtho[1,2-b]furan-2(3H)-one, 6-(acetyloxy)decahydro-9a-hydroxy-3,5a-dimethyl-9-methylene-(3S,3aS,5aS,6S,9aS,9bS)(7), naphtho[1,2-b]furan-2(3H)-one, 6-(acetyloxy)-3a,4,5,5a,6,7,8,9b-octahydro-8-hydroxy-3,5a,9-trimethyl-(3S,3aS,5aR,6S,8S,9bS)(8), isoerivanin(9), barrelierin(10),(11S)-1-oxoeudesm-4(14)-eno-13,6α-lactone(11), 1-epi-dehydroisoeranin(12), respectively. All of these compounds were isolated from Artemisia vestita for the first time, and compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To study the chemical constituents of Artemisia lactiflora Wall.ex DC.METHODS The comepounds were isolated by column chromatography with silica gel,C18 reverse-phase silica gel,Sephadex LH-20,and semi-preparative HPLC,and their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral analysis and physicochemical evidences.RESULTS Twelve compounds were isolated from the chloroform layer of ethanol extract of Artemisia lactiflora and identified as 4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)acetophenone(1),loliotide(2),isololiotide(3),isovanillic acid(4),p-hydroxybenzoic acid(5),tran-p-hydroxycinnamic acid(6),trans-p-hydroxycinnamic acid ethyl ester(7),(+)-pinoresinol(8),(+)-medioresinol(9),(+)-syringaresinol(10),4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxy-benzoic acid(11),dihydroisoferulic acid(12).CONCLUSION Compounds 1-12 were isolated from this plant for the first time,and compound 1 was a new natural product,and compounds 4,7,8,12 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time.

Abstract:Fourteen known compounds were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala and identified as follows:zhepiresinol(1),(-)-lariciresinol(2),ficusal(3),medioresinol(4),(+)-syringaresinol(5),1β,2β-epoxy-3β,4α,10α-trihydroxyguaian-6α,12-olide(6),5β,10α-dihydroxy-1αH-dehydroleucodin(7),3α-chloro-8α-acetoxy-4β,10α-dihydroxy-1β,2β-epoxy-5α,7αHguai-11(13)-en-12,6α-olide(8),13-O-desacetyleudesma-afraglaucolide(9),1,10-seco-4ξ-hydroxy-muurol-5-ene-1,10-diketone(10),1α-hydroxyafraglaucolide(11),aurantiamide(12),indole-3-aldehyde(13),loliolide(14).All these compounds were isolatedfrom this plant for the first time and compounds 1-4,8,10,13 were obtained from genus Artemisia for the first time.

Abstract:In a chemosystematic investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. we have isolated eleven compounds including four guaiane type sesquiterpenes (1–4), one eudesmane type sesquiterpene (5) and six other constituents (6–11). Among them, the five compounds 1–5 all are new for Daucus carota L. and all have been reported in Torilis japonica. The results show that Daucus carota L. is chemically similar with Torilis japonica providing chemical evidence for both species used as the same traditional Chinese medicine “nanheshi”.

Abstract:Four new guaiane-type sesquiterpene, Artemisia integrifolia A (1), Artemisia integrifolia B (2), Artemisia integrifolia C (3), and Artemisia integrifolia D (4), along with ten known related analogues, were isolated from Artemisia integrifolia. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis including UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The cytotoxicity of these compounds against human cancer HeLa cells were evaluated. Compounds 3, 4,10 and 13 showed moderate cytotoxic activities against HeLa cancer cells with IC50 values of 28.27, 27.79, 26.84 and 28.86 lM, respectively. (c) 2023 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Six crystalline components were isolated from the lipophilic fraction of Artemisia annua L. They have been identified as four sesquiterpenes, one flavonol and one coumarin. Qinghaosu I and III are new sesquiterpenes. Five main constituents, camphene, iso-artemisia ketone, 1-camphor, β-carophyllene, and β-pinene were identified from the volatile oil of this herb.

Abstract:A phytochemical reinvestigation of the aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana gave a new guaianolide and two known flavones (chrysosplenetin and 5-hydroxy-3',4',6,7-tetramethoxyflavone). Antifungal fractions derived from the chloroform extract of A. annua afforded two cadinane derivatives (arteannuin B and artemisinin), oleanolic acid, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and the four flavones artemetin, bonanzin, eupalitin and chrysosplenetin. Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods. All isolates from the two species were tested in vitro for antifungal activity. Arteannuin B, a main sesquiterpenoid in A. annua, showed antifungal activity against one human (Candida albicans, MIC: 100 micrograms/ml) and four plant pathogenic fungi (Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici, Rhizoctonia cerealis, Gerlachia nivalis and Verticillium dahliae, MICs: 150, 100, 150 and 100 micrograms/ml, respectively) whereas others showed no antifungal activity. The MIC value of ketoconazole to C. albicans was 1.0 microgram/ml, and those of triadimefon to G. graminis var. tritici and R. cerealis 150 and 100 micrograms/ml.

Abstract:Chemical exploration of Artemisia myriantha Wall. ex Bess (Asteraceae) aerial parts afforded one new seco-guaianolide (1) and one new germacranolide (2). Structure elucidation of the new compounds was unambiguously performed based on HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. The two new compounds exhibited in vitro strong cytotoxic activities against human cancer cell lines HCT-8 with IC50 values of 0.76 and 0.28 μM, respectively.

Abstract:In addition to beta-sitosterol and alpha-amyrin detected in all the investigated species, the extract of the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var. giraldii gave stigmasterol, daucosterol, sesamine, luteolin, eupafolin, hispidulin, eupatilin, belamcanidin, pinitol, artemin, ridentin, and a new antifungal monoterpene (named santolinylol) while that of the aerial parts of A. mongolica afforded sesamine, eupafolin, eupatilin, matricarin, and a new germacranolide (3-oxo-11 alpha H-germacra-1(10)E,4Z-dien-12,6 alpha-olide), and that of the aerial parts of A. vestita yielded stigmasterol, daucosterol, umbelliferone, scopolin, scoparone, and isoscopoletin-O-glucoside. Pinitol, first reisolated from Artemisia genus, was shown to inhibit the growth of the human pathogenic fungi Candida albicans, Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Geotrichun candidum, Trichophyton rubrum, and Epidermophyton floccosum. Umbelliferone was also active against Candida tropicalis, A. flavus, G. candidum, T. rubrum, and E. floccosum. The flavones hispidulin and belamcanidin were almost equally inhibitory to the growth of A. flavus, G. candidum, T. rubrum, and E. floccosum, and santolinylol to C. albicans, A. flavus, A. niger, G. candidum, T. rubrum, and E. floccosum. In addition, ridentin was active against the growth of the plant pathogenic fungus Cladosporium cucumerinum.
