Abstract:A new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, torilolone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with a known analogue compound, torilolone 11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), was isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation. The cytotoxic activities of two isolated compounds were evaluated against two human gastric cancer cell lines BGC-823 and AGS using MTT assay.

Abstract:Two new eudesmane sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. The structures were established based on the interpretation of high-resolution MS and 1D- and 2D-NMR data, the absolute configuration of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The new compounds were elucidated as (1βH, 3βH, 5βH, 7αH)-4α, 10α-dimethyl-7β-isopropyl-1α, 3α, 4β, 11-tetrahydroxy decahydronaphthalene (1) and (1βH, 3βH, 5βH, 7αH)-4α, 10α-dimethyl-7β-isopropyl-1α, 3α, 4β-trihydroxy decahydronaphthalene-11-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (2). The compound 1 showed significant antioxidant activity.

Abstract:In a chemosystematic investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. we have isolated eleven compounds including four guaiane type sesquiterpenes (1–4), one eudesmane type sesquiterpene (5) and six other constituents (6–11). Among them, the five compounds 1–5 all are new for Daucus carota L. and all have been reported in Torilis japonica. The results show that Daucus carota L. is chemically similar with Torilis japonica providing chemical evidence for both species used as the same traditional Chinese medicine “nanheshi”.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:Two new eudesmane-type glucopyranosides have been isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. On the basis of their spectroscopic and chemical evidence, the new compounds were elucidated as daucucarotol-10-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1) and decahydro-7-[(2-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl)-isopropyl]-1β,4aα-dimethyl-(1α,4α,8aβ)-naphthalenetriol (2). Compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate antitumour activity against human ECA-109 and gave IC50 values of 23.22 and 26.76 μM, respectively.

Abstract:Two new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycosides, atractylodes guaianoside I ( 1 ) and atractylodes guaianoside II ( 2 ), along with eleven known sesquiterpenes ( 3 – 13 ), were isolated from Atractylodes Japonica Koidz. ex Kitam. The structures of these two new compounds were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analyses and mass spectrometric techniques. And their absolute configurations were confirmed by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. In addition, the isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against three cancer cell lines HT-29, A-549, and MCF-7. Results showed that new compound 2 had inhibitory effects on three types of cancer cells, while new compound 1 only had inhibitory effects on HT-29 and MCF-7.

Abstract:Two new compounds, including one new ellagitannin, 4''-carboxyl-1,2,3,6-tetra- O -gally- β - D -glucopyranose ( 1 ), and a new phenylpropanoid glycoside, 7 α -hydroxy-7 β- 8 β- 9 ax β- 9 eq α (8,9-epoxy)-guaiacylglycerol 4- O - β -D- glucopyranoside.( 8 ), have been isolated from the seed of Torreya grandis , together with eight known compounds ( 2–7 , 9 and 10 ). Their structures were elucidated by the basis of NMR and HRFABMS. All the isolates were evaluated for in vitro inhibitory activity against DGAT1/2. Among them, compounds 1 – 7 displayed the significant inhibitory activities on DGAT1 with IC 50 values ranging from 31.1 ± 1.1 to 118.5 ± 1.2 μM.

Abstract:Eleven undescribed guaiane-type sesquiterpenoids, named daphnegenols A-K (1–11) and a known analog (12) were targeted for isolation from the root of Daphne genkwa by LC-MS/MS-based molecular networking. Their diverse structures were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic methods, quantum chemical calculation and X-ray single crystal diffraction, including 5/7 bicycle, 5/6/7 tricycles and 5/6/5 tricycles guaiane-type sesquiterpenoid. Daphnegenol A (1) possessed a rare six membered oxyheterocyclic ring which was constructed by oxidation and cyclization at C-1 and C-11. The anti-acetylcholinesterase and anti-neuroinflammatory activities of compounds 1–12 were measured.

Abstract:Two new guaiane sesquiterpenoids were isolated from the dried aerial parts of Dracocephalum tanguticum Maxim., named as dracotangusions A ( 1 ) and B ( 2 ), together with four known sesquiterpenoids, which were identified as Curcumenone ( 3 ), (4Z,7Z,9Z)-11-Hydroxy-4,7,9-germacratriene-1,6-dione ( 4 ), Kobusone ( 5 ), and (1S,10S), (4S, 5S)—(+)-germacrone-1(10)-4-diepoxide ( 6 ). The structures of isolates were determined by UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS, and NMR analysis. What is noteworthy is that four known sesquiterpenoids were isolated for the first time from the genus of Dracocephalum L. All compounds inhibited the extremely significant difference ( p < 0.01) in anti-inflammatory activity, suggesting that these compounds may be promising candidates as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Abstract:A new abietane diterpenoid, teuvisone (2), a pair of new dimeric abietane diterpenoid stereoisomers, biteuvisones A (3) and B (4), and three new sesquiterpenoid lactones, teuvislactones A-C (6, 7, and 10), were isolated from the whole plants of Teucrium viscidum, along with four known terpenoids (1, 5, 8, and 9). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis, and the absolute configurations of 5-10 were determined by electronic circular dichroism analysis. The isolated compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic effects against five human cancer cell lines and for their α-glucosidase inhibitory effects.
