Abstract:Several aromatic aldehydes and sodium bisulfite were mixed to prepare hydroxyl sulfonates,which were added to o-phenylenediamine or substituted o-phenylenediamine in refluxing ethanol to afford 2-substi-tuted benzimidazoles through oxidation by air directly.One of the fifteen synthesized compounds,2-(4-chlorophyenyl)-6-methoxyl-1H-benzimidazole has not been reported.All the compounds were identified by IR,1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis.The method is simple,mild,eco-friendly and requires no catalyst.

Abstract:Copper/N, N, N', N'-tetramethylethylenediamine (Cu/TMEDA)-catalyzed ambient temperature tandem reactions of isothiocyanates with 2-iodophenols or 2-iodoanilines in water without the protection of an inert atmosphere are described, which provide a simple, rapid, environmental method for the synthesis of a variety of 2-iminobenzo-1, 3-oxathioles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles in good yields. More important, the present reaction process needs only low amounts of copper catalyst (< 1 mol%) and can yield the products on a gram scale.

Abstract:A novel protocol for the facile synthesis of chiral 3-substituted 1,3,4,5-tetrahydrobenzo[e] [1,4]diazepin-2-ones via a domino reaction has been developed, which involves a cascade of S(N)2 nucleophilic substitution and copper-catalyzed C-N coupling reactions of a-amino acid amides and orthohalobenzyl halides. This protocol has some merits, such as one-pot process, easy operation, a wide scope of substrates. Furthermore, no heavy racemization occurs during the reaction.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed oxidative cyclization of vinyl azides with benzylic C-sp3-H bonds via a tandem dual C-H functionalization process has been developed. This procedure allows access to substituted phenanthridines containing a variety of functional groups. In addition to benzyl hydrocarbons, other substrates containing unactivated C-sp3-H bonds, such as ethers and alkanes could also be applied successfully to this transformation.
