Abstract:The schemes to solve the high bit error problem in wireless networks were discussed. Aiming to improve the performance of TCP protocal in mobile environments, two typical TCP models of the pure end-to-end approaches, TCPW and TCP-Real, were researched. The pure end-to-end schemes have the advantage of preserving the end-to-end semantics of TCP protocol. Simulation results with different bit error conditions of these protocols reveal an evident improvement in terms of TCP performance in relative to others, especially when the bit error rate is high.

Abstract:Qos of broadband network is important. ISPs have some methods for evaluate it. But they are not efficient enough. This paper present a new method in which delay and scale of windows of TCP messages are used for evaluating performance of broadband. Comparison between delay or scale of window s of samples is the core idea of the method. There are two kinds of comparison. One is absolute terms of above-mentioned indexes, another is score, that is relative term. We can grade samples according to their scores. It is helpful for locating probably fault situation for ISPs.

Abstract:End-to-end bottleneck bandwidth is a very important performance metric for most network applications,especially in the networks with rate limited.How to measure end-to-end bottleneck bandwidth remains unresolved until now.In this paper,based on packet-pairs technology,a new method-Pathlink is proposed,which measures end-to-end bottleneck bandwidth by observing sudden change of packet delays when injecting a series of packets into network.Experimental results show that this method can exactly measure both average bottleneck bandwidth and peak bottleneck bandwidth of the rate-limited networks,and can be widely used in network bandwidth measurement.

Abstract:A new end-to-end available bandwidth measurement method based on the parity-packet pair model is proposed on the basis of analyzing the relationship between the separation time and background traffic of the packet pair. This method breaks the constraint that the tense link and the bottleneck link must be the same link, and is able to measure the end-to-end available bandwidth, even in many complex situations. The experiment results prove the exactness and effectiveness of this method.

Abstract:A majority of current bandwidth estimation methodologies rely on the principle of the bottleneck spacing effect. Based on the concept of packet dispersion, many packet pair/packet train techniques were presented to estimate capacity/available bandwidth. However, these methods failed for measurement on high capacity path, because they could not measure bandwidth beyond the source node's maximum sending rate. In addition, current methodologies do not consider the effect of cross traffic routing on available bandwidth estimation. This paper analyzes the effect of the routing of cross traffic packets on available bandwidth measurement in detail. Then based on Monte Carlo Method, a novel methodology fundamentally different in the basic idea from the previous methods is presented to measure end-to-end available bandwidth. This method sends small single packet randomly instead of sending packet pair/train back-to-back. It could work on network whose capacity is far beyond the maximum sending rate of the sender. Analysis and simulations show that besides end-to-end available bandwidth, this method could measure the capacity and idle ratio of targeted link, and then calculate the change of traffic flow on each node and the percentage of different cross traffic on each link.

Abstract:The bandwidth measurement for IP network paths is a hotspot in network research area.A bi-direction bi- step approach to the available bandwidth measurement for an end-to-end network path based on packet queuing is pro- posed in this paper.This approach consisting of delay tracing and UDP sending processes computes the available band- width of a path by the delay of packet queuing,and increases or reduces the sending rate of UDP packets through bi-di- rection bi-step.The proposed approach can obviously shorten the measuring times and running time,so the overhead of measurement is reduced.The experiment results show that the proposed approach and implementation are valid and ef- fective.

Abstract:The IEEE 802.11 standard supports the coexistence of asynchronous and time-bounded traffic by use of the two modes of medium access control (MAC) protocol termed as DCF (distributed coordination function) and PCF (point coordination function) respectively. The former is a random access scheme originally designed for delay-insensitive data applications, and the latter is based on polling mechanism which is more suitable for real-time services such as voice and video etc. In this paper, we focus on the performance of the packetized voice transmission using PCF mode in IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN while the DCF mode is used to provide minimum bandwidth available for data transfers. The effect of fragmentation threshold, echo cancellation and burst errors on network performance is theoretically analyzed.
Fast and Light Bandwidth Testing for Internet Users

Abstract:Bandwidth testing measures the access bandwidth of end hosts, which is crucial to emerging Internet applications for network-aware content delivery. However, today's bandwidth testing services (BTSes) are slow and costly-the tests take a long time to run, consume excessive data usage at the client side, and/or require large-scale test server deployments. The inefficiency and high cost of BTSes root in their methodologies that use excessive temporal and spatial redundancies for combating noises in Internet measurement. This paper presents FastBTS to make BTS fast and cheap while maintaining high accuracy. The key idea of FastBTS is to accommodate and exploit the noise rather than repetitively and exhaustively suppress the impact of noise. This is achieved by a novel statistical sampling framework (termed fuzzy rejection sampling). We build FastBTS as an end-to end BTS that implements fuzzy rejection sampling based on elastic bandwidth probing and denoised sampling from high-fidelity windows, together with server selection and multihoming support. Our evaluation shows that with only 30 test servers, FastBTS achieves the same level of accuracy compared to the state-of-the-art BTS (STeedTestinet) that deploys similar to 12,000 servers. Most importantly, FastBTS makes bandwidth tests 5.6 x faster and 10.7 x more data-efficient.

Abstract:Existing algorithms for bandwidth measurement are unable to achieve balance between real time performance and reliability for satellite communication networks.To solve the problem,an intervening model is proposed to analyze the relationship between packet pair dispersion and cross traffic.Using this model,packet pair spacing with higher accuracy can be achieved.An algorithm of fast probe packet group is also developed.Results of simulation under the GEO/LEO satellite network model show that the algorithm can measure the bandwidth with high speed and low network resource cost.

Abstract:The paper introduces some problems of TCP in high bandwith delay product network and gives two method to solve these questions. One is only to update the endpoint protocol such as HighSpeed TCP, the other is a new mechanism such as XCP protocol, which needs router to update the feedback of each packet. The paper simulates these three protocols and finds that XCP has the best performance of three protocols except the difficulty of deployment, increasing of router load and much additional informations in the packets.

Abstract:After the presence of high Bandwidth-Delay Product (high-BDP) networks, many researches have been conducted to prove either the existing TCP variants can achieve an excellent performance without wasting the bandwidth of these networks or not. In this paper, a comparative test-bed experiment on a set of high speed TCP variants has been conducted to show their differences in bandwidth utilization, loss ratio and TCP-Fairness. The involved TCP Variants in this experiment are: NewReno, STCP, HS-TCP, H-TCP and CUBIC. These TCP variants have been examined in both cases of single and parallel schemes. The core of this work is how to evaluate these TCP variants over a single bottleneck network using a new parallel scheme to fully utilize the bandwidth of this network, and to show the impact of accelerating these variants on bandwidth utilization, loss-ratio and fairness. The results of this work reveal that, first: the proposed parallel scheme strongly outperforms the single based TCP in terms of bandwidth utilization and fairness. Second: CUBIC achieved better performance than NewReno, STCP, H-TCP and HS-TCP in both cases of single and parallel schemes. Briefly, parallel TCP scheme increases the utilization of network resources, and it is relatively good in fairness.

Abstract:Short packet transmission techniques have recently attracted substantial attention due to their potential of achieving low latency in emerging Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). To this end, finite-blocklength coding is expected to play a central role in short packet communications. With the random arrival of short packets, there exists a fundamental tradeoff between reliability and latency in finite-blocklength coding based transmission systems. In this paper, we consider the reliability-latency tradeoff of short packet transmission over AWGN channels. More specifically, an effective bandwidth approach is adopted to obtain the delay violation probability given a hard delay constraint. We present an approximate but closed-form Quality-of-Service (QoS) exponent that bridges the delay violation probability of short packets and the error probability of finite-blocklength coding. Numerical results shall validate our theoretical analysis, which characterizes a performance limit of ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC) over AWGN channels.

Abstract:WANETs (Wide-Area wireless NETworks) is a recent network architecture where the nodes are spread out all over the world but behave exactly as if they are part of a single-hop or multi-hop wireless network at the PHY and MAC layers. At the same time, IEEE 802.11 devices are popular all over the world. When IEEE 802.11 meets with WANETs, the transparent Software Defined Access Points (SoDA) in WANETs will prevent IEEE 802.11 devices from utilizing the spatial reuse opportunities effectively and thus may underutilize the wireless medium. In this paper, we propose a scheme to utilize the delay experienced by the packets to address the throughput issue when IEEE 802.11 meets with WANETs. We build a wireless network testbed to evaluate the proposed scheme. Our implementation experiences show that the proposed scheme can make the IEEE 802.11 devices which locate in geographically separate locations utilize the parallel transmission opportunities effectively.

Abstract:Access bandwidth measurement is crucial to emerging Internet applications for network-aware content delivery. However, today’s bandwidth testing services (BTSes) are slow and costly—the tests take a long time to run, consume a great deal of data usage, and usually require large-scale test server deployments. The inefficiency and high cost of BTSes root in their methodologies that use excessive temporal/spatial redundancies for combating noises in Internet measurement. In particular, compared to downlink BTSes, uplink BTSes are subject to more severe performance problems and technical challenges. This paper presents FastUpBTS to make uplink BTS fast and cheap while maintaining high accuracy. The key idea is to strategically accommodate and exploit the noise rather than repetitively and exhaustively suppress the impact of noise. This is achieved by a novel statistical sampling framework termed fuzzy rejection sampling. We build FastUpBTS as an end-to-end BTS that implements fuzzy rejection sampling based on memorization-reinforced throughput denoising, data-driven server selection, and informed multi-homing support. Our evaluation shows that with only 30 test servers, FastUpBTS achieves the same level of accuracy compared to the state-of-the-art BTS (SpeedTest.net) that deploys ~16,000 servers. Most importantly, FastUpBTS makes bandwidth tests $5.4\times $ faster and $6.8\times $ more data-efficient.

Furthermore, the rules from the SPN(stochastic Petri nets) models to test suite of TTCN(tree and tabular combined notation) are proposed, and a performance test case is generated from the SPN models.

Abstract:In this paper, we present to discuss the performance of transport layer protocols for multimedia application in the wired network. More precisely, TCP and UDP Performance are evaluated then compared. Two scenarios implemented to evaluate the performance of the two transport layer protocols, first scenario TCP and UDP are simulated independently. Whilst, TCP, and UDP Simulated Interoperation in the second scenario. Performance evaluated according to the QoS metrics like throughput, packet delivery ratio, fairness, and endto-end delay. This QoS criterion has been determined for each of two transport protocol. Network simulator (NS-2.35) used to simulate and implement both of TCP and UDP.

Abstract:Network bandwidth bottleneck is an important parameter of network performance.The existing measurement tools can only locate and estimate the bandwidth bottleneck along end-to-end path,and cannot be used to measure the bottleneck all over the network.These tools cannot satisfy the need of network design, network management and applications.In this paper,we propose a novel algorithm based on IPv6 Source Routing option,design packets train with novel structure which can locate and estimate allover IPv6 network,and implement measurement tool,netneck.We deploy set of experiments on CNGI-6PlanetLab testbed to validate our algorithm in CERNET2 IPv6 network.We can declare that our algorithm and netneck tool are effective for bottleneck location and estimation.

Abstract:Testing is needed to evaluate the function and performance of network chips; however, there are few papers on test methods for network chips. This paper presents an test structure and five test methods for network chips according to the position of points of control and observation. The five test methods are a centralized test method, a distributed test method, a remote test method, a traversing test method, and a loopback test method. These test methods were used to evaluate the function, interoperability and performance of OC48c POS (packet over SONET) chips. The test methods provide a broad range of tests for network chip testing.
