Abstract:A method for the determination of trace thallium in soil samples by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry after preconcentration with polyurethane foam has been developed.Digested sample in hydrochloric acid,nitric acid,perchloric acid and Hydrofluoric acid,trace thallium is adsorbed by polyurethane foam from 10% nitric acid medium in the presence of Fe+3 ion and released in 2ml hydrogen peroxide.Tl is determined by GFAAS with ascorbate as a matrix modifier.The detection limit of the method is 0.2 ng/g for thallium.The method has been applied to the determination of trace Tl in soil standard reference samples and the results are in good agreement with certified values as well as precision of 5.05% ～8.74% RSD(n=12).

Abstract:Determination of arsenic by atomic fluorescence spectrometry with bi-anode electrochemical hydride generation (BAECHG) was Investigated. This novel method reduced the use of chemical reagents and thus reduced environmental pollution because no chemical hydride generation procedure was used. Under the same conditions, the hydride generation efficiency of BAECHG was 99.0%-101.6% of that of chemical hydride generation method. Parameters and interference conditions were investigated. Under the selected conditions, the linear range was 0-120 mu g/L for arsenic (As, injection volume: 100 mu L). The detection limit (signal to noise ratio of 3:1) was 0.64 mu g/L. The relative standard deviation (RSD) obtained by using standard Solution with 60 mu g/L of As was 2.0% (n = 13). The proposed method was applied to analyze the reference soil sample (GBW07406), the result was consistent with the certified value. The spiked recoveries of piglet feed sample were 97.0%-103.0%. High sensitivity and good repeatability are the advantages of this method.

Abstract:A self-made hyphenated system was developed for on-line determination of antimony in soil.This system used a bianode electrolytic cell as a hydride generator coupled to atomic fluorescence spectrometry(AFS).Pure lead plate was used as the cathode and two titanium wires were used as the bianode of the electrolytic cell.Parameters that might affect the hydride generation efficiency and the fluorescence signal were investigated.Under optimum conditions,viz,0.5 mol·L-1 H2SO4 used as electrolytic solution with a flow rate of 2.0 mL·min-1,a cathode current density of 0.5 A·cm-2 and the flow rate of the deniozed water to transfer the samples to the cathode channel set at 1.5 mL·min-1.The linear range of the calibration curve was 1-300 μg·L-1 with a detection limit of 0.91 μg·L-1 Sb(S/N=3).The relative standard deviation(RSD) for 11 repetitive determinations of Sb(50 μg·L-1) was 1.58%.The proposed method was applied to the determination of Sb in soil samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:The fly ash sample was dissolved by a mixed acid composed of HNO3,HF and HClO4,and the content of gallium was determined by ICP-AES.The influences of amount of HNO3 and HF,solution temperature and the adding of HCl in dissolving the sample on determination of gallium were discussed.This method has advantages of simple operation,high sensitivity,good reproducibility and so on,with recoveries from 94.45% to 105.40% and RSD of 3.1%.

Abstract:The adsorption properties of crosslinked chitosan(CCTS) for Ag(Ⅰ) were studied and a new method for preconcentration and separation of Ag(Ⅰ)was proposed.The adsorption percentage of Ag(Ⅰ)by CCTS was above 99% at pH 3.0 and Ag(Ⅰ)could be eluted from CCTS with 8 mL 0.5 moL/L hartshorn.The Ag(Ⅰ)in water was preconcentrated with CCTS and was then determined by GFAAS.With enrichment factor of about 20-fold,the detection limit(3σ,n=6) was 0.406 μg/L,the relative standard deviation(RSD) was less than 6.8%.This method is also suitable for the recovery of Ag(Ⅰ).

Abstract:A speciation system for antimony (III) and antimony (V) ions that based on solid phase extraction on tetraethylenepentamine bonded silica gel has been established. Antimony was determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS). Analytical conditions including pH, sample volume, etc., were studied for the quantitative recoveries of Sb (III) and Sb (V). Matrix effects on the recovery were also investigated. The recovery values and detection limit for antimony (III) at optimal conditions were found as >95% and 0.020 μg L(-1), respectively. Preconcentration factor was calculated as 50. The capacity of adsorption for the tetraethylenepentamine bonded silica gel was 7.9 mg g(-1). The validation was checked by analysis of NIST SRM 1573a Tomato laves and GBW 07605 Tea certified reference materials. The procedure was successfully applied to speciation of antimony in tap water, mineral water and spring water samples. Total antimony was determined in refined salt, unrefined salt, black tea, rice, tuna fish and soil samples after microwave digestion and presented enrichment method combination.

Abstract:Dimethylglyoxime (DMG) has been tested as a complexing agent for the determination of nickel after online preconcentration on RP-C-18 in a microcolumn using flow injection coupled with a flame atomic absorption spectrometry system (FI-FAAS). The Ni-DMG complexes formed online can be adsorbed on the C-18 sorbent. Various parameters affecting the online Ni-DMG complex formation and its subsequent adsorption in the microcolumn as well as its elution into the nebulizer of the FAAS were optimized. A 10(-3) mol/L solution of DMG in 4% ethanol was mixed online with an aqueous sample solution acidified to 0.1% (v/v) nitric acid and Rowed for 30 a through the microcolumn. The adsorbed Ni-DMG complex in the microcolumn was eluted with ethanol containing 1% HNO3 into the nebulizer of the FAAS in 10 s. A good precision (RSD = 1.7%, n = 14), high enrichment factor (2I), and high sample throughput (90 h(-1)) with detection limit (3 sigma) 3 mu g/L were obtained. The method was applied to standard reference materials, i.e., NBS-362, NBS-364 (special low-alloy steel), and mussel (GBW 08571), for the determination of nickel and the results were in good agreement with certified values. Nickel recovery from seawater and high-purity magnesium oxide in the range 98-100% can be obtained by this method, (C) 1999 Academic Press.

Abstract:A low power (similar to 10 W), miniaturized atmospheric pressure glow discharge (APGD) source sustained between a tungsten cathode and a titanium tube anode was coupled with a hydride generation (HG) system for sensitive determination of antimony in water samples with atomic emission spectrometry (AES). Sb ions were converted into volatile hydrides through the reaction with KBH4 firstly and then were introduced into the APGD source for excitation and detected using a compact CCD (charge-coupled device) microspectrometer. A univariate approach was used to achieve optimized conditions and derive analytical figures of merit. Under optimal conditions, the limits of detection and quantification for Sb were 0.14 and 0.5 mg L-1, respectively. Moreover, the HG-APGD-AES system offered good repeatability (relative standard deviation <1.5%). The calibration curve was linear in the range between 0.5 and 100 mg L-1, with a correlation coefficient of R-2 = 0.9996. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of certified reference materials (GSB 07-1376-2001, GBW07305a, GBW07307a and GBW073066) and some groundwater samples. Recoveries of Sb added to these water samples were within 90.9-100.7%, proving the good accuracy of the HG-APGD-AES method.

Abstract:An improved, automated method for the determination of arsenic and antimony in geological materials is described. After digestion of the material in sulfuric, nitric, hydrofluoric and perchloric acids, a hydrochloric acid solution of the sample is automatically mixed with reducing agents, acidified with additional hydrochloric acid, and treated with a sodium tetrahydroborate solution to form arsine and stibine. The hydrides are decomposed in a heated quartz tube in the optical path of an atomic absorption spectrometer. The absorbance peak height for arsenic or antimony is measured. Interferences that exist are minimized to the point where most geological materials including coals, soils, coal ashes, rocks and sediments can be analyzed directly without use of standard additions. The relative standard deviation of the digestion and the instrumental procedure is less than 2% at the 50 μg l-1 As or Sb level. The reagent-blank detection limit is 0.2 μg l-1 As or Sb.

Abstract:The condition in which the plumbum(Pb),cadmium(Cd) were directly determined by Ultrasonic Pretreatment Suspension Sampling-transversely heated GFAAS.It is rapid,simple and accurate to use the method.The linear range for the determination of Pb was 0～100 ng·ml-1,the was 0.9997,and the detection limit was 2.8 ng·ml-1.The linear range for the determination of Cd was 0～10 ng·ml-1,the was 0.9992,and the detection limit was 0.8 ng·ml-1.Using the method in the analysis of the mud sample at the bottom of the River,the effect was well,and the recovery of the Pb was 91.5%～105.5%,the recovery of the Cd was 91.2%～101.2%.
[Study on the Direct Determination of Pb and Cd in Milk Powder by GFAAS].

Abstract:The paper reports the direct determination of Pb and Cd in milk powder by GFAAS. The mothed does not need any pre-treatment to the samples and fully use some function of pre-treatment which the Graphite Furnace have. The result indicates that the method is simple, rapid and accurate, and the false result from any pre-treatment to the samples can be reduced. The recover rate of Pb is 100.1%, CV =2.7 ; and Cd is 98.6%, CV = 3.1 %. This method is also applied to the rapid determination of Pb and Cd in soluble samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract:A direct solid sample inducing method is introduced for the detection of Pb and Cd in paper for food-packaging by AAS ZEEnit 600,AnalytikJena AG.The analysis was made without digestion chemicals;the RSD was between3.3 %～10.6 %(n = 7),the detection limits are 0.002ng and 0.001ng for Pb and Cd respectively.Compared with liquid sampling graphite furnace AAS analysis,the Direct SS-GFAAS proved to be a good alternative to conventional methods of trace analysis after wet-chemical digestion and compared favorably with these methods,it can save a lot of work for sample processing,has benefits to avoid dilution and external contamination.
Simultaneous Determination of Mercury, Arsenic and Antimony in Soil and River Sediment

Abstract:Mercury,arsenic and antimony are common items in soil and river sediment samples in environment monitoring. In this paper, with using a new kind of three channels Atomic Fluorescence instrument, a new method to measure the three elements simultaneously was formed. With optimizing the experiment conditions and selecting suitable treatment of samples, a good result was got. The detection limits of arsenic, mercury and antimony were 0.03 mg/kg, 0.009 mg/kg, 0.03 mg/kg. The precision was 3.5%, 7.8%, 5.5%, the recoveries were 95%-103%, 91%-107%, and ±6.4%(precision) respectively. Comparing with some current methods, this method measured the three elements simultaneously in the same medium. The digestion process was suitable for samples. It simplified the experiment procedure greatly and improved efficiency and precision. The method could meet the determination demand of mercury arsenic and antimony in soil and river sediment samples well.
Speciation analysis of arsenic in Realgar and in Chinese traditional patent medicine containing Realgar

Abstract:Objective:To develop a method for analysis of arsenic species,i.e.arsenite As(Ⅲ),arsenite As(Ⅴ), monomethylarsonic acid(MMA),and dimethylarsinic acid(DMA)in Realgar and in Chinese traditional patent medicine containing Realgar.Method:Arsenic species in samples were extracted with dilute hydrochloric acid solu- tion(pH2)and the separation were performed on a silica-based strong cation-exchange(SCX)cartridge,and a resin-based strong anion-exchange(SAX)cartridge.Then hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry was used to determine the speciation of arsenic in samples.Results:Calibration curves were linear with regression coeffi- cients of more than 0.999 for all four arsenic species,and the linear ranges of As(Ⅴ)、MMA and DMA were 0-20 ng·mL~(-1)and of As(Ⅲ)was 0-40 ng·mL~(-1).The average recoveries of all four arsenic species were ranged from 81% to 105.4% and precision(RSD)were within 8.7% for DMA,12% for MMA,4.7% for As(Ⅴ)and 3% for As(Ⅲ).Conclution:The proposed method is simple,accurate and is suitable for As speciation analysis in Realgar and in Chinese traditional patent medicine containing Realgar.

Abstract:In this paper, a one-time digestion method for the determination of arsenic (As), antimony (Sb), selenium (Se), and mercury (Hg) in geological samples was established. The optimum digestion conditions were determined with aqua regia-hydrofluoric acid (HF)-H3BO3 as a complexing open system, and the contents of As, Sb, Se, and Hg in the same digestion solution were determined by chemical vapor generation non-dispersive atomic fluorescence spectrometry (CVG-AFS). For the determination of As, Sb, Se, and Hg, the method detection limits were 0.53 mg/kg, 0.047 mg/kg, 0.009 mg/kg, and 0.00047 mg/kg, respectively, Δ log C was -0.043–0.048, and the %RSD values were lower than 8.5%, performing with good accuracy and precision. This digestion method avoids the fractional processing of each element, simplifies the digestion steps, saves pretreatment time, and improves efficiency. The digestion method also showed wide applicability, high sensitivity, and low detection limits, and it can be used as a quick method for monitoring and controlling heavy metal pollution in large-scale geological samples.

Abstract:A method was developed for the trace and ultra-trace determination of germanium by flow injection (FI) hydride generation with subsequent trapping and electrothermal atomization in a graphite furnace pre-coated with palladium. The samples were propelled into the FI system to be merged on-line with a tetrahydroborate reductant. The hydride and hydrogen gases evolved were separated from the liquid phase in a gas-liquid separator and transferred to a palladium-coated graphite furnace pre-heated to 400-degrees-C to collect the analyte, which was then atomized at 2500-degrees-C. The sensitivities and interference effects using different concentrations of hydrochloric acid were compared. The tolerance to interferences was improved at high acidities of 3 mol l-1 HCl and also in the FI system when compared with a batch in situ collection system. With the reported system germanium was determined at a sampling frequency of 18 h-1 with a detection limit (3sigma) of 0.004 mug l-1 in 0.15 mol l-1 HCl medium and 0.03 mug l-1 in 3 mol l-1 HCI medium using a 4.5 ml sample. The precision (relative standard deviation) was 2.0% at the 0.3 mug l-1 level in 0.15 mol 1-1 HCl medium and 2.5% at the 1.5 mug l-1 level in 3 mol l-1 HCl medium. The proposed method was applied to the determination of germanium in garlic, tap water, ginseng and geological reference samples.

Abstract:The determination of Ge by electrochemical hydride generation (Ec-HG)-atomic fluorescence spectrometer (AFS) was developed. A specially designed tubular electrolytic cell was used for hydride generation. The cell consisted of graphite tube cathode and platinum anode. When electrolysis began, hydride-forming elements were reduced to gaseous hydrides on cathode surface and were transported to gas liquid separator by carrying gas for AFS determination. The detection limits (3 delta) of Ge in aqueous solution was 0.67 mu g/L, the RSD for 11 replicate measurements of 200 mu g/L Ge was 1.7%. The technique has been applied to the determination of Ge in the reference materials. The analytical results were in good agreement with certified values. The effects of the hydride and interferences have been studied.

Abstract:Objective:This disquisition investigates determination of aluminium in puffed food by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.Methods:Pretest samples using mixed acid,and magnesium was adopted as matrix modifier to determine by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry.Results:The lowest detection limit of the method was 3.4×10-11 g,the relative standard deviation was less than 10%(the amount of aluminium was 0.30 mg/kg),and the average recovery was 95%～108%.Conclusion:The method is sensitive and selective,has higher recovery,and is suitable for daily determination.

Abstract:Multi components such as Fe2O3、Al2O3、Cr、Co、Ni、Cu、Zn、Pb in geochemical exploration samples have been measured by pressed powder pellet sample preparation and X—ray fluorescence spectrometry.Basic parameter method combining with PH mode empirical factor method were mainly used to correct spectral interference and matrix effect.Two Chinese national primary reference materialGSD-2a and GBW 07103 were selected for the verification of accuracy of the method and the analytical results were well agreed with the certificate values,GBW 07401 was selected for precision test,Statistical results showed that RSD(n=10) were better than 5.0% for major elements and others,except for Br,Ce,Co,Ge,La,Mo,U,Sn,Sc and Nd(RSD10%).
An Improved Method for Determination of Total Arsenic in Food with Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometer

Abstract:Inorder to solve some problems of digesting sample and dosage of reagent,three major improvements were made to the atomic fluorescence-wet digestion method for determination of total arsenic(GB 5009.11—2003),which included(1)digesting samples throughly by dehydrating and carbonizing samples with concentrating sulfuric acid twice at a high temperature;(2)reducing the loss of volatile arsenic compound at a lower temperature,and shortening the pretreatment time at a higher temperature;and(3)reducing the loss of volatile arsenic compound and the dosage of reagent by covering a funnel over the conical flask.The improved method was then used to determine the total arsenic in spinach powder(GBW10015),kelp powder(GBW08517)and shrimp meal(CNAS T0442).The results of at least 6parallel measurements all located in the middle part of the reference range,and the relative standard deviation was less than 7%.These findings indicated that the modified method is of high accuracy and stability,the mixture of sulfuric and perchloric acid can digest arsenobetaines and arsenic carbohydrate compounds effectively at 200℃,and concentrated sulphuric acid can also digest arsenobetaines and arsenic carbohydrate compounds effectively at boiling point.
