Abstract:A new dimeric guaianolide (8) and a new glaucolide (3), a seco-guaiaretic acid (4), two guaianolides (6 and 7), and five known sesquiterpene lactones (1, 2, 5, 9, and 10) were isolated from the aerial part of Artemisia anomala. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analysis. In addition, their cytotoxic activities against five human cancer cell lines and anti-COX-2 effects in vitro were evaluated.

Abstract:The present study is to investigate the chemical constituents from the aerial parts of Artemisia myriantha. The chemical constituents were isolated by column chromatographies over silica gel, Sephadex LH-20, ODS and Semi-prep HPLC, and the structures were identified by NMR and MS data. Thirteen known compounds were isolated and identified as: blumenol A (1),(+)-dehydrovomifoliol (2),(+)-3-hydroxy-β-ionone (3),(3R, 6R, 7E)-3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (4),(-)-10-oxo-isodauc-3-en-15-oic acid (5),isoerivanin (6),eudesmafraglaucolide (7), artanomalide A (8),13-acetoxy-3β-hydroxy-germacra-1(10) E,4E,7(11)-trien-12,6α-olide (9),13-acetoxy-3β-tigloyl-germacra-1(10) E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (10),13-acetoxy-3β-(3-methylbutanoyl)-germacra-1(10)E, 4E, 7(11)-trien-12, 6α-olide (11),3,9-diacetoxy-13-hydroxy-1(10), 4, 7(11)-germacratrien-12,6α-olide (12), and 8α-angeloyloxycostunolide (13). Compounds 1-6 and 13 were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and 7-9 and 12 were isolated from this plant for the first time. Compound 8 exhibited selective cytotoxicity against human colon cancer (HCT-8) and human gastric cancer (BGC-823) with IC₅₀ values of 2.33 and 4.53 μmol•L ⁻¹, respectively.

Abstract:Chemical exploration of Artemisia myriantha Wall. ex Bess (Asteraceae) aerial parts afforded one new seco-guaianolide (1) and one new germacranolide (2). Structure elucidation of the new compounds was unambiguously performed based on HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic analyses. The two new compounds exhibited in vitro strong cytotoxic activities against human cancer cell lines HCT-8 with IC50 values of 0.76 and 0.28 μM, respectively.

Abstract:AIM: To study chemical constituents of the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala (Asteraceae). METHODS: The constituents were isolated with silica gel, ODS column chromatography and semi-preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of physical characteristics and spectral data. RESULTS: Eight compounds were obtained, and their structures were identified as 3 beta-ethoxytanapartholide (1), (4S*, 5S*)-dihydro-5-[( 1R*, 2S*)-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclopenten-1-yl]-3-methylene-4-(3-oxobutyl)-2(3H)-furanone (2), ligucyperonol (3), cyperusol C (4), santamarin (5), 1 alpha, 2 alpha, 3 alpha, 4 alpha, 10 alpha -pentahydroxyguaia-11(13)-ene-12, 6 alpha-olide (6), balanophonin (7), methyl 3-(2'-hydroxy-4'-methoxyphenyl) propanoate (8). CONCLUSION: Compound 1 was a new artifact, 4 and 8 were isolated from the genus Artemisia for the first time, and compounds 2-3, 5-7 were isolated from this plant for the first time.

Abstract:Two new eudesmane sesquiterpenoids artanoate (1) and eudesmanomolide (2) were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia anomala S. Moore. Their structures were elucidated as methyl (4R, 5S, 6S, 7S, 10R)-1-oxo-4, 6-dihydroxy-eudesma-2, 11 (13)-dien-12-oate (1) and (1R, 5R, 6R, 10R)-3, 13-diacetoxy-1-hydroxy-3, 7(11)-diene-12, 6-olide (2) on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. Compound 1 showed cytotoxicity against HCT-8 cell lines with IC50 value of 9.13μM, and compound 2 exhibited inhibitory activities against HCT-8 and A549 cell lines with IC50 values of 3.76 and 5.49μM, respectively.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the aerial parts of Artemisia giraldii var.longipedunculata led to the isolation of 10 known sesquiterpenes,including 12-hydroxy-a-cyperone (1),1β,6a-dihydroxyeudesma-4(15)-ene (2),carainterol A (3),oplodiol (4),douglanin (5),1α-hydroxyisodauc-4-en-15-al (6),3α,6α-dihydroxybisabola-4,10-diene (7),4a,5β-dihydroxybisabola-2,10-diene (8),opposit-4(15)-ene-1β,7-diol (9),and saniculamoid D (10),respectively.Their structures were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.All the isolates were obtained from A.giraldii var.longipedunculata for the first time,and five of them were obtained from the genus Artemisia for the first time.Additionally,the 13C NMR data of 1 were fully assigned based on the 2D NMR data for the first time.

Abstract:Four new guaiane-type sesquiterpene, Artemisia integrifolia A (1), Artemisia integrifolia B (2), Artemisia integrifolia C (3), and Artemisia integrifolia D (4), along with ten known related analogues, were isolated from Artemisia integrifolia. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis including UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS. The cytotoxicity of these compounds against human cancer HeLa cells were evaluated. Abstract:One new highly oxygenated nortriterpene, named sieverlactone (1), one new sesquiterpene, 1 beta, 10 beta-epoxy-8 alpha-acetoxyachillin (2), one new natural product, 5-propinyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid (3), and one new thiophene, 3-hydroxy-5-propinyl-2-acetyl-thiophene (4), together with 10 other known compounds (5 - 14), were isolated from the dried aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric data. Meanwhile, the stereochemistry of 1 and 2 was confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique using Cu radiation. All the isolates were evaluated for their anti-neuroinflammatory effects on the lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide production in BV-2 murine microglial cells. Compounds 2, 5, and 6 exhibited the significant activities with IC50 values of 6.5 +/- 0.5, 11.9 +/- 0.7, and 10.1 +/- 0.3 mu M, respectively, comparable to the positive control, quercetin, with an IC50 value of 16.3 +/- 0.4 mu M. Abstract:Two new diterpenoids, wikstroelide Q (1) and prostratin Q (5), together with three known diterpenoids, pimelea factors P₂ (2), P₃ (3), and prostratin (4), and five known lignans, (+)-epipioresinol (6), (+)-isolariciresinol (7), (−)-lariciresinol (8), (+)-epi-sesaminone (9), and prestegane B (10), were isolated from the buds of Wikstroemia chamaedaphne Meissn. Their structures were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic analyses. Compounds 1–10 were evaluated for their cytotoxicities against HL-60, SMMC-7721, A549, MCF-7, SW480, and BEAS-2B cell lines in vitro.

Abstract:Eight undescribed sesquiterpenes, including three dimeric guaianolides and five sesquiterpens, together with ten known ones, were isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic techniques and ECD calculation. The isolated compounds were tested for their anti-inflammatory effects against IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells. Compounds 4, 9, 12, 15, 16 and 17 showed potent anti-inflammatory activities.

Abstract:A phytochemical reinvestigation of the aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana gave a new guaianolide and two known flavones (chrysosplenetin and 5-hydroxy-3',4',6,7-tetramethoxyflavone). Antifungal fractions derived from the chloroform extract of A. annua afforded two cadinane derivatives (arteannuin B and artemisinin), oleanolic acid, beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, and the four flavones artemetin, bonanzin, eupalitin and chrysosplenetin. Their structures were elucidated by spectral methods. All isolates from the two species were tested in vitro for antifungal activity. Arteannuin B, a main sesquiterpenoid in A. annua, showed antifungal activity against one human (Candida albicans, MIC: 100 micrograms/ml) and four plant pathogenic fungi (Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici, Rhizoctonia cerealis, Gerlachia nivalis and Verticillium dahliae, MICs: 150, 100, 150 and 100 micrograms/ml, respectively) whereas others showed no antifungal activity. The MIC value of ketoconazole to C. albicans was 1.0 microgram/ml, and those of triadimefon to G. graminis var. tritici and R. cerealis 150 and 100 micrograms/ml.
