Abstract:Asymmetric cyanation of a class of easily available olefins with a favorable cyanide source ethyl cyanoformate (CNCOOEt) was realized by an interesting modular catalyst. High yields and ee values were obtained for a range of substrates under solvent-free and mild reaction conditions. The products obtained could be easily transformed to the enantioenriched useful intermediates 5, 6, and pharmaceutically important gamma-aminobutyric acid 7.

Abstract:Copper(II)-catalyzed synthesis of sulfones from sulfinate salts and aryl halides was investigated by means of a combination of experiment and DFT calculation. Experimental results demonstrated the wide applicability of the title approach. The reaction mechanisms are revealed by in-situ IR and theoretical study. It reveals remarkable ligand effect the bidentate amine plays in the reaction, that is, it initially activats the C-I bond of iodobenzene so as to enhance the whole catalytic process. Abstract:A novel heterogeneous copper catalyst has been developed by supporting copper nanoparticles on activated charcoal via in situ reducing copper(II) with aqueous hydrazine as reductant. The characterization of Cu/C catalyst showed that the Cu0 nano-particles were formed on the surface of charcoal. This catalyst displayed good catalytic activities toward the N-arylation of primary amides and lactams with aryl iodides.

Abstract:A CuI@UiO-67-bpy (MOF II) was successfully synthesized by immobilizing a small amount of CuI onto the zirconium-based MOF (UiO-67-bpy, MOF I). Copper-doped CuI@UiO-67-bpy has an isostructural nature with the parent UiO-67 framework and a large surface area of approximately 1285 m2/g. Moreover, the material was thoroughly characterized using SEM, PXRD, TGA, FTIR, and XPS methods. The as-synthesized CuI@UiO-67-bpy catalyst can be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for promoting C–H arylation of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles with aryl iodides and benzoxazoles or benzothiazoles with diaryliodonium salts. Furthermore, the catalyst was recoverable and reusable, maintaining high catalytic activity even after three cycles. The combination of the advantages of both homogeneous molecular CuI catalysts and solid MOF structures in this system may bring new opportunities in the development of highly active heterogeneous copper catalysts for a variety of Cu-catalyzed transformations.

Abstract:Diaryl sulfides are known as valuable intermediates in the production of various useful compounds, including antibacterial, antifungal, anti-ulcer and anti-hypertensive agents. In this paper, we developed a new and ecofriendly nanomagnetic catalyst for the synthesis of diaryl sulfides containing imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine, benzoazole, pyrimidine and oxadiazole scaffolds through C–H bond sulfenylation of imidazopyridines. Fe3O4@AMBA–CuI nanocatalyst was successfully constructed through the immobilization of CuI on the surface of magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified with 3-amino-4-mercaptobenzoic acid (AMBA). FT-IR spectroscopy, SEM, EDX, TEM, XRD, VSM, EDX elemental mapping and ICP-OES techniques were applied to characterize the structure of the as-fabricated Fe3O4@AMBA–CuI nanocatalyst. Recycling of the Fe3O4@AMBA–CuI nanocatalyst was performed up to eight times without significant loss in activity; VSM and ICP-OES techniques confirmed that the stability and high magnetic nature of recovered catalyst.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:A compatible system involving N‐chlorosuccinimide (NCS) as the chlorine source and Cu@CuFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) as recyclable catalysts was explored. We present a novel and practical method for directly obtaining aryl α,α‐dichloro/bromoketones in aqueous trifluoroethanol (TFE). The catalyst was recovered and reused up to five times with no significant decrease in activity. In this study, novel Cu@CuFe2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by virtue of a simple method. By utilizing a compatible system involving N‐chlorosuccinimide (NCS) as the chlorine source and Cu@CuFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) as recyclable catalyst, we present a novel and practical method for directly obtaining aryl α,α‐dichloroketones in aqueous trifluoroethanol (TFE). The catalyst was recovered and reused up to five times with no significant decrease in activity. The current study provides a foundational raw material for the subsequent synthesis of chlorinated functional molecules, which is achieved through a mild transformation of arylalkynes using readily available commercial feedstocks and exhibiting good tolerance with various substituents on the aromatic ring, including the aliphatic alkyne. This novel heterogeneous catalyst may be used in numerous industrial applications because of its merits, such as considerable recyclability, low requirement for catalyst loading, cost‐effectiveness, and ease of handling.

Abstract:We present the synthesis and characterization of a new Cu(I) complex supported on SBA‐15 as a catalyst for preparing anilines from the reaction of aryl halides with sodium azide. The SBA‐15 support was modified by treating it sequentially with (3‐aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), cyanuric chloride, and 2‐aminothiazole (AT). The modified mesoporous silica, SBA‐15@BAT, was then treated with a CuI solution in acetonitrile to give SBA‐15@BAT‐Cu(I). The catalyst underwent thorough characterization using conventional methods. X‐Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis corroborated the presence of copper in the +1 oxidation state in the catalyst. The supported Cu(I) complex sufficiently catalyzed the amination reaction of iodo‐, bromo‐, and chloroarenes with NaN3. The catalyst was centrifuged, washed, and applied in the subsequent run. We investigated the effects of various reaction components and parameters to determine the optimal conditions for the reaction. The heterogeneous catalyst exhibited noticeable stability and was reused over seven runs with slight deactivation.

Abstract:Aryl nitriles can be efficiently synthesized through transition-metal-mediated cyanation of aryl halides, arenes, aryl boronic acids, and so on. Among those most commonly used transition-metals, copper catalysts are surely much more inexpensive and easier to handle, compared to any other metal catalysts. Considering the high-efficiency of copper catalysts in the activation of C–X, C–H, and C–B bond as well as in the formation of C–CN bond, this Letter summarizes various copper-mediated cyanations based on the different kinds of cyanide reagents, such as metal cyanides, potassium hexacyanoferrate(II), acetone cyanohydrins, DDQ, AIBN, benzyl cyanide, malononitrile, nitromethane, and DMF. Our group’s recent contributions to this area are also demonstrated.
