Abstract:Different morphologies and sizes of α-Fe 2 O 3 were prepared by the coprecipitation method using polyvinylpyrrolidone as a dispersant. In the preparation process, the homogeneous and dispersed nanoscale FeOOH particles were first obtained by coprecipitation method, and then the FeOOH particles were calcined at high temperature and formed α-Fe 2 O 3 . The growth and aggregation of the α-Fe 2 O 3 particles at different calcination temperatures resulted in α-Fe 2 O 3 powders with diversiform morphology (nanoscale microsphere, pinecone ellipsoidal, polyhedral, and quasi-spherical structure). By analyzing the SEM images, it was inferred that the polyhedral structure of α-Fe 2 O 3 particles was formed by the accumulation and accumulation of rhomboid sheet structures and high temperature growth. In the aspect of magnetic, the samples belong to the canted antiferromagnetic materials, and the morphology, particle size and crystallite size of α-Fe 2 O 3 particles were important factors affecting the coercivity. Among them, when the calcination temperature was increased from 700 °C to 800 °C, the growth rate of particle size was significantly faster than that of grain size, and the coercivity increased substantially from 1411 Oe to 2688 Oe.

Abstract:The high temperature soft magnetic properties of Fe85.2Zr3.5Nb3.5B6.8Cu1 amorphous and nanocrystalline alloy were investigated. A Hopkinson peak was observed in the amorphous alloy, which was not observed in the nanocrystalline alloy, and this has been explained by the combination of the anisotropy reduction and the deterioration of magnetic properties. A rapidly decrease in permeability at the Curie temperature of amorphous (Tcam) was observed in amorphous and partial crystallized nanocrystalline alloys, this phenomenon was disappeared in the highly crystallized nanocrystalline alloys, which was illustrated by the intergrain exchange magnetic coupling through a thin amorphous layer in the two-phase nanocrystalline alloy.

Abstract:The influence of annealing on microstructure, magnetic properties including the giant magnetoimpedance (GMI) effect of a Fe-based nanocomposite has been investigated. The nanocomposite structure composed of ultra-fine Fe(Si) grains embedded in an amorphous matrix was attained by annealing the Fe-based amorphous alloy prepared by rapid quenching method. The GMI profiles were measured for samples annealed at different temperatures ranging from 350 to 650°C in vacuum and for 30min. It is found that the mean grain size of the α-Fe(Si) crystallites in the order of 12nm remains almost unchanged until the annealing temperature reached 540°C. A decrease of anisotropy field and an increase of GMI with increasing annealing temperature up to 540°C were observed and ascribed to the increase of the magnetic permeability and the decrease of the coercivity, whereas the opposite tendency was found for the sample annealed above 600°C which is likely due to the microstructural change caused by high-temperature annealing. This indicates that variation in the magnetic characteristic of the amorphous phase upon annealing changed the intergrain exchange coupling. This altered both the magnetic softness and the effective anisotropy and consequently modified the GMI features. The study of the temperature dependence of the GMI effect provides further understanding of the magnetic exchange between these crystallized grains through the amorphous boundaries in Fe-based nanocrystalline materials.

Abstract:Fe-Al-N films were fabricated by reactive sputtering using a radio-frequency magnetron sputtering system. The effects of Al and N content and annealing temperature on microstructure and magnetic properties were investigated. The Fe-Al-N films, which have good soft magnetic properties, consist of nanocrystalline α-Fe grains and a small amount of other phases in the boundaries of α-Fe grains. The average α-Fe grain size is about 10-15nm. A slight amount of Fe-N and Al-N compounds precipitate in the boundaries of α-Fe grains and suppress their growth. Annealing improves the soft magnetic properties slightly by releasing the residual stress and reducing defects.

Abstract:Nanocrystalline FeTaN thin films with a high Ta content were prepared in a reactive magnetron sputtering system. The as-sputtered films consist of the amorphous phase. The morphological structure and magnetic properties were investigated. Nanocrystalline alpha-Fe grains with the (110) plane parallel to the film surface crystallize from the amorphous phase after proper annealing. The film sputtered in low nitrogen partial pressure exhibits excellent soft magnetism because the alpha-Fe grains crystallized only with grain size less than the ferromagnetic exchange length. Nitrogen atoms play an important role in refining the alpha-Fe grains and inducing uniaxial anisotropy in the Fe-Ta-N films.
Mesoporous Α-Fe2o3 Nanospheres: Structural Evolution and Investigation of Magnetic Properties.

Abstract:A solvothermal route is adopted to produce mesoporous α-Fe(2)O(3) nanospheres by using polyethylene glycol as soft template and n-butanol/H(2)O as mixed solvent. The mesoporous α-Fe(2)O(3) nanospheres are subjected to calcination at different temperatures, and the specific surface area, pore size, and magnetic properties of the as-prepared nanospheres are investigated. The studies reveal that the pore sizes of the mesoporous α-Fe(2)O(3) nanospheres increase with higher calcination temperature, and high-temperature calcination brings about tightness of the pore wall. Magnetic studies show that aggregation of the small particles raises the Morin transition temperature.

Abstract:Nanoparticles of Co 0.5 Cd 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 have been fabricated using a typical sol–gel combustion technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emotion-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer measurements were used to study the structure, morphology and magnetic characteristics of ferrite nanoparticles at varied calcination temperatures. The electrical characteristics of the structure are calculated from the first principles using the GGA approach in density functional theory. The X-ray analysis of calcined samples revealed the formation of the spinel fcc crystalline phase was unaffected by the increment in calcination temperature. Due to the presence of cubic cadmium oxide (CdO), several low-diffraction peaks with the symbol * are present. As calcination temperature rises, the average crystal size increases from 20.34 to 21.94 nm. The FE-SEM images indicated a porosity structure and agglomerations caused by the interaction of uniform magnetic nanoparticles. The compositional analysis of the Co 0.5 Cd 0.5 Fe 2 O 4 sample reveals the existence of desired constituents and the elimination of all undesirable precursors. Raman spectroscopy proved spinel ferrite nanoparticles include tetrahedral (A) sites and octahedral (B) sites. The magnetic hysteresis curves demonstrate the ferromagnetic nature, and it was observed that calcination temperatures significantly impacted the magnetic characteristics. As calcination temperature increased, saturation and remanence magnetization decreased, and inter-sub-lattice (A–B) super-exchange interactions were slightly more pronounced in smaller particles than in larger ones. Coercivity increases as calcination temperature rises. This can be attributed to the increase in particle size within the singular domain region. In addition, theoretical results (band structures) indicate that cobalt-cadmium ferrite possesses half-metallic properties.

Abstract:The main purpose of this work is to explore the influences of microstructures on the magnetic properties, as well as the formation mechanism of -Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers. The synthesis of nanoflower-like samples includes three processes. Firstly, Fe3O4 nanospheres are synthesized by the solvothermal reaction of FeCl3 dissolved in ethylene glycol and NaAc. Secondly, Fe3O4/Ni(OH)2 core/shell precursor is fabricated by solvothermal method through using the early Fe3O4 spheres and Ni(NO3)26H2O in an ethanol solution. Finally, the precursor Fe3O4/Ni(OH)2 is calcined in air at 300 ℃ for 3-6 h, and therefore resulting in -Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers. Their microstructures are characterized by using XRD, XPS, SEM, HRTEM and SAED techniques. The results show that the final powder samples are -Fe2O3/NiO with typical core/shell structure. In this core/shell system, the -Fe2O3 sphere acts as core and the NiO acts as shell, which are comprised of many irregular flake-like nanosheets with monocrystalline structure, and these nanosheets are packed together on the surfaces of -Fe2O3 spheres. The calcination time of Fe3O4/Ni(OH)2 precursor has significant influences on the grain growth, the NiO content and the compactness of NiO shells in the -Fe2O3/NiO core/shell system. VSM and SQUID are used to characterize the magnetic properties of -Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers. The results indicate that the 3 h-calcined sample displays better ferromagnetic properties (such as higher ms and smaller HC) because of their high -Fe2O3 content. In addition, as the coupling interaction between the FM -Fe2O3 and AFM NiO components, we observe that the -Fe2O3/NiO samples formed in 3 h and 6 h display certain exchange bias (HE=20 and 46 Oe, respectively). Such a coupling effect allows a variety of reversal paths for the spins upon cycling the applied field, and thereby resulting in the enhancement of coercivity (HC(FC)=252 and 288 Oe, respectively). Further, the values of HE and HC for the former are smaller than those of the latter, this is because of the AFM NiO content in 6 h-calcined sample much higher than that in 3 h-calcined sample. Especially, the temperature dependences of the magnetization M of the two samples under both ZFC and FC conditions indicate that an extra anisotropy is induced. In a word, the size effect, NiO phase content, and FM-AFM (where FM denotes the ferromagnetic -Fe2O3 component, while AFM is the antiferromagnetic NiO component) interface coupling effect have significant influence on the magnetic properties of -Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers.
Evolution from Amorphous to Nanocrystalline and Corresponding Magnetic Properties of Fe-Si-B-Cu-Nb Alloys by Melt Spinning and Spark Plasma Sintering

Abstract:The nanocrystalline Fe-Si-B-Cu-Nb alloys were prepared by firstly melt spinning and then spark plasma sintering process. The microstructure and magnetic properties of the samples obtained were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer. The body-centered cubic alpha-Fe(Si) phase precipitated from the amorphous matrix when the sintering temperature was increased to 800 K. The Fe23B6 phase started to form at the sintering temperature of 950 K. The grain size and densities of the sintered Fe-Si-B-Cu-Nb alloys increased with increasing the sintering temperature. Moreover, the saturation magnetizations of the samples obtained increased first and then decreased as the sintering temperature was increased from 750 K to 1050 K, while the values of coercive force changed in the opposite direction. The Fe-Si-B-Cu-Nb alloys sintered at 900 K exhibited a nanocrystalline structure with a grain size of similar to 34 nm. It also displayed excellent soft magnetic properties with saturation magnetization at 137.5 emu/g, coercivity at 5 Oe and remanence at 1.0 emu/g. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The hierarchical spherical alpha-Fe2O3 nanostructures were obtained by polyacrylamide (PAM)-assisted microwave fabrication method. The nanostructures exhibited mesoporous structures with relatively high remanent magnetization and coercivity at 300 K. The PAM was believed to play an important role in the formation of the hierarchical spherical alpha-Fe2O3 nanostructures.

Abstract:Zn-doped magnetite Fe3O4 samples were prepared at different doped concentrations and annealed at high temperature in ambient air and N2 respectively.X-ray diffraction(XRD)results showed that samples annealed in air were oxidized and the consequent products were partially in α-Fe2O3 form.While for the samples annealed in N2,ZnxFe3-xO4 products of high purity were obtained.The doping of Zn2+ on the tetrahedral sites(A sites)changed the valence distribution of Fe2+ ions on the octahedral sites(B sites).The electron transporting mechanism remained to be variable range hopping(VRH)conduction.Measurement results of magnetic properties indicated that the super exchange coupling interaction between Fe2+ ions was affected by the low doping concentration of Zn2+ ions in the crystal,and the negative magnetoresistivity of ZnxFe3-xO4 was improved as well.
Effect of Calcination Temperature on Microstructure and Magnetic Properties of Ni0.3cu0.2zn0.5fe2o4 Nanofibers

Abstract:The Ni0.3Cu0.2Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibers with diameters of around 100 nm were successfully fabricated by sol-gel method combined with electrospinning technology. The as-spun polymer/inorganic composite nanofibers and calcined products were characterized by means of thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The experimental results showed that the pure spinet structure was basically formed when the composite nanofibers were calcined at 450 degrees C for 2 h. With the increase of calcination temperature, the nanofiber surface became much rougher and the nanofiber morphology gradually changed toward the necklace-like structure along with the growth of Ni0.3Cu0.2Zn0.5Fe2O4 grains contained in the nanofibers. At the same time, the specific saturation magnetization (M-s) of nanofibers monotonously increased, while the coercivity (H-c) initially increased, reached a maximum value at about 650 degrees C, and then decreased with further increasing calcination temperature, indicating that the single-domain critical size of Ni0.3Cu0.2Zn0.5Fe2O4 in the form of nanofibers may be around 53 nm. Furthermore, the relationship between the coercivity of Ni0.3Cu0.2Zn0.5Fe2O4 nanofibers and the mean grain size (D) was analyzed in a D range below the single-domain critical size. It was found that H-c of these nanofibers varied as D-0.71, which was in good agreement with the predicted D-2/3 dependence of H-c on the basis of the random anisotropy model.

Abstract:Here we report a facile solution-phase synthesis of Co2FeAl alloy nanostructures by controlling the reaction temperatures and reaction times. The use of Teflon autoclave ensured the formation of pure Co2FeAl alloy nanostructures even at a low reaction temperature of 60 degrees C. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of good crystalline Co2FeAl alloy with average grain size of about 20-30 nm. Scanning electron microscope observations showed the evolution of Co2FeAl alloy nanostructures from cluster flower nanostructure to layered columnar nanostructure. Magnetic investigations showed high saturation magnetization of 189.2 emu/g and low coercivity of 23 Oe of Co2FeAl alloy nanostructures at 150 degrees C. These Co2FeAl alloy nanostructures with special structure morphologies and good soft magnetic properties have great potential in some industry fields. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
Synthesis of CoFe2O4 Nanoparticles via Solution Method and Their Magnetic Properties

Abstract:CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were prepared by a direct synthesis method from solution using Co(NO3)2.6H2O and Fe(NO3)3 9H2O as raw materials.The phase structure,micro-morphology and synthesis mechanism of the nanoparticles were analyzed.The effect of annealing temperature on the magnetic properties of the samples was investigated.The results show that the products are cubic spinel-type ferrites with the average particle size of 5 nm,and the nanoparticles are well-dispersed.When the annealing temperature was < 500 ℃,the nanopraticles exhibited a superparamagnetic behavior.When the annealing temperature was > 500 ℃,the particle size,the specific saturation magnetization(Ms),the specific remnant magnetization(Mr) and the coercivity(Hc) of nanoparticles all increased with the increase of the annealing temperature.The Msof nanoparticles was 3.4 A.m2/kg at room temperature.When the annealing temperature was 900 ℃,theMsand the Hcfor the nanoparticles were 59.5 A.m2/kg and 97.0 kA/m,respectively.

Abstract:Single-phase cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized by coprecipitation method and annealed at different temperatures. The structural, dielectric and magnetic properties were investigated, which showed an obvious dependence on annealing temperature. The average crystallite size increased from 20 to 60nm with increase of annealing temperature. Meanwhile, the shape of nanoparticles also changed from spherical to octahedron and then cubic. Dielectric constant showed dispersion behavior and decreased with increasing annealing temperature, while the relaxation peaks observed in dielectric loss were shifted to lower frequencies. The ac conductivity originates from Polaron hopping which decreased with increase of crystallite size (less surface area and defect density) due to higher annealing temperature. The saturation magnetization increased from 59 to 81emu/g and coercivity dropped from 1316 to 428 Oe with the increase of particle size.

Abstract:Excellent soft magnetic properties of the amorphous and nanocrystalline alloys are attributed to their unique microstructure. In this work, Fe 73.5 Si 13.5- x Nb 3 Cu 1 B 9 P x ( x = 0, 3.5, 7, 10 at. %) amorphous ribbons have been fabricated using the melt spinning technique. The effect of annealing temperature (475 ~ 600 °C) on the microstructure and soft magnetic properties have been studied. According to the results, the thermal stability of FeSiNbCuBP amorphous alloys was improved by the partial substitution of Si by P. Moreover, it was found that the grain growth of α-Fe (Si) phase can be restrained by the appropriate amount of P addition and result to a grain refinement of the alloys during annealing. Base on refinement grain size (9 nm) and optimal crystallization volume fraction (47%), Fe 73.5 Si 10 Nb 3 Cu 1 B 9 P 3.5 nanocrystalline alloy with low coercivity of 0.02 A/m and high effective permeability of 3.22 × 10 4 was developed after annealed at 525 °C. Besides, we propose that the migration of free electrons from P to Fe could diminish the saturation magnetization of these alloys.

Abstract:alpha-FeOOH nanocrystals were synthesized in high yield via a facile and template-free hydrothermal method at low temperature. The morphology and composition of the samples were controlled by slowly releasing the SO42- ions from ammonium persulfate. The rod-like, bundle-like, and urchin-like alpha-FeOOH nanocrystals could be acquired respectively through a direct hydrothermal route with different quantities of SO42- ions. The rod-like a-FeOOH nanocrystals obtained have a diameter of 5-25 nm and a length of 100-200 nm. When the molar ratio of iron to SO42- was 1:1, the product was pure a-FeOOH phase. However, as the molar ratio was decreased from 1:1 to 1:4, pure FeSO4OH center dot 2H(2)O phase was obtained. When the molar ratio was between 1: 4 and 1: 1, the prepared product was composed of two phases (alpha-FeOOH and FeSO4OH center dot 2H(2)O). After hydrothermally aging the as-synthesized alpha-FeOOH nanorods at 180 degrees C for 1 d, alpha-Fe2O3 nanorods were obtained. However, the edge of the alpha-Fe2O3 nanorods was sword- like and different from the blunt edge of alpha-FeOOH nanorods due to a recrystallization mechanism.

Abstract:In this study, the characterization and magnetic properties of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles synthesized by co‐precipitation method were investigated. The calcined products obtained were characterized by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X‐ray (EDAX), Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Crystallite size and phase composition were analyzed by X‐ray diffraction. Crystallite size and phase composition were analyzed by X‐ray diffraction. The average crystallite size of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles increased in the range of 15.85–32.14 nm with an increase in temperature from 500 to 700°C. It was observed that spherical CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were produced. Synthesis of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles was confirmed using XRD, SEM‐EDAX and FTIR analyses. The effect of crystallite size, calcination temperature and lattice parameter on saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization, coercivity and magnetocrystalline anisotropy were investigated by vibrating sample magnetometer. Abstract:Cobalt ferrite nanopowders were successfully synthesized by the coprecipitation method and subsequent calcinations at 873 and 1073 K. The effects of the thermal treatments on the crystal structure, particle size and magnetic properties of the nanocompounds were investigated. The particle sizes were determined from transmission electron microscopy and an increase in sizes with the increment in calcination temperature was observed. The mean particle sizes were 29 and 42 nm, for samples calcined at 873 and 1073 K, respectively. By X-ray diffraction it was determined that the nanoparticles crystallized in the cubic spinel structure. Additionally, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy studies confirms the presence of spinel metal oxide. The magnetization measurements as a function of the temperature and the applied magnetic field suggested that a large part of the nanoparticles calcined at 873 K present a superparamagnetic behavior at room temperature, while those calcined at 1073 K are mainly in the blocked regime at temperatures below 320 K. In addition, remarkably high coercivities of approximately 10.7 and 12.4 kOe were observed at low temperatures, for the nanopowders calcined at 873 and 1073 K, respectively.
Synthesis, microstructure, and magnetic properties of gamma-Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers

Abstract:The main purpose of this work is to explore the influences of microstructures on the magnetic properties, as well as the formation mechanism of gamma-Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers. The synthesis of nanoflower-like samples includes three processes. Firstly, Fe3O4 nanospheres are synthesized by the solvothermal reaction of FeCl3 dissolved in ethylene glycol and NaAc. Secondly, Fe3O4/Ni(OH)(2) core/shell precursor is fabricated by solvothermal method through using the early Fe3O4 spheres and Ni(NO3)(2)center dot 6H(2)O in an ethanol solution. Finally, the precursor Fe3O4/Ni(OH)(2) is calcined in air at 300 degrees C for 3-6 h, and therefore resulting in gamma-Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers. Their microstructures are characterized by using XRD, XPS, SEM, HRTEM and SAED techniques. The results show that the final powder samples are gamma-Fe2O3/NiO with typical core/shell structure. In this core/shell system, the gamma-Fe2O3 sphere acts as core and the NiO acts as shell, which are comprised of many irregular flake-like nanosheets with monocrystalline structure, and these nanosheets are packed together on the surfaces of gamma-Fe2O3 spheres. The calcination time of Fe3O4/Ni(OH)(2) precursor has significant influences on the grain growth, the NiO content and the compactness of NiO shells in the gamma-Fe2O3/NiO core/shell system. VSM and SQUID are used to characterize the magnetic properties of gamma-Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers. The results indicate that the 3 h-calcined sample displays better ferromagnetic properties (such as higher M-s and smaller H-C) because of their high gamma-Fe2O3 content. In addition, as the coupling interaction between the FM gamma-Fe2O3 and AFM NiO components, we observe that the gamma-Fe2O3/NiO samples formed in 3 h and 6 h display certain exchange bias (H-E = 20 and 46 Oe, respectively). Such a coupling effect allows a variety of reversal paths for the spins upon cycling the applied field, and thereby resulting in the enhancement of coercivity (H-C (FC) = 252 and 288 Oe, respectively). Further, the values of H-E and H-C for the former are smaller than those of the latter, this is because of the AFM NiO content in 6 h-calcined sample much higher than that in 3 h-calcined sample. Especially, the temperature dependences of the magnetization M of the two samples under both ZFC and FC conditions indicate that an extra anisotropy is induced. In a word, the size effect, NiO phase content, and FM-AFM (where FM denotes the ferromagnetic gamma-Fe2O3 component, while AFM is the antiferromagnetic NiO component) interface coupling effect have significant influence on the magnetic properties of gamma-Fe2O3/NiO core/shell nanoflowers.
