Abstract:To further improve the accuracy of recurrent neural network in predicting the gas concentration in the upper corner of the mine tunnel, this paper proposes a method to construct a gas concentration prediction model based on multiple sequence long and short memory network, considering the spatial correlation between the gas concentration in the return airway and upper corner. The reliability of the model construction is improved by using the white noise test and smoothness test to verify the interpretability of the data in this paper and constructing supervised learning type data for gas concentration prediction model training and testing by means of data set division and data windowing. Through experimental comparison, grid search, and time series decomposition, the model algorithm, training parameters, and experimental results were combined to make an in-depth analysis of the influence of each parameter on the model training and the prediction. A training model of the spatially fused gas concentration prediction model with a network layer of 1 and a number of neurons of 32 as the model structure, Adam as the optimization algorithm, and a learning rate of 0.001 and a batch size of 32 as the training parameters was finally determined. The gas concentration prediction model trained in this paper performed well in the test set with a mean square error (MSE) of 0.0013, and its superiority was verified by comparing it with other models to provide some experience and basis for subsequent studies on gas concentration prediction in the upper corner.

Abstract:The change of gas emission or concentration level at the working face is one of the main precursor characteristics of coal and gas outburst. At present, coal and gas outburst monitoring and early warning are mainly based on whether it exceeds the limit and its change law. However, the gas concentration level is affected by factors such as coal seam gas content, permeability, and mining process, and the change law is complex to recognize manually. In this paper, the response characteristics of gas concentration level in the mining process are analyzed and revealed, and a bidirectional long short-term memory model is established. The change characteristics of the gas concentration level in the mining and non-mining processes are studied and recognized. The results show that the change law of gas concentration in the mining process has apparent periodicity and trapezoidal volatility. Abstract:The gas data collected at the coal mining site exhibits characteristics of nonlinearity, high dimensionality, and fuzzy complexity. Currently, there are still shortcomings in the reliability, accuracy, and real-time performance of predicting gas emissions. Deep neural networks can complete feature extraction and transformation of massive multi-source heterogeneous data information in underground mines. This can also achieve the purpose of prediction through self-learning, providing technical support for the prediction and decision-making of gas accidents. This work is based on deep learning to design a coal mine gas emission prediction model (CMGEPNet). CMGEPNet consists of a multi-scale convolutional neural network and an improved BiLSTM. The former is used to extract spatial features at different scales to explore the laws of spatial sequence features. The latter can explore time series features and obtain more significant information. Secondly, this article proposes a mixed attention mechanism and embeds it into CMGEPNet. This aggregates self-attention, channel attention, and spatial attention. Finally, a systematic experiment was conducted on the dataset. CMGEPNet obtained 27.8 RMSE and 18.3 MAE. This verifies the superiority of CMGEPNet in predicting coal mine gas emissions. The method proposed in this article demonstrates that combining convolutional neural networks with temporal neural networks can improve the accuracy of predicting coal mine gas emissions, which can be used in intelligent mining monitoring of coal mines.

Abstract:Gas disasters threaten the safe operation of coal mines. Improving the accuracy of gas concentration predictions can effectively prevent gas disasters and reduce disaster losses. Traditional gas concentration prediction methods poorly couple the gas concentration and its influencing factors when dealing with a great number of features and data, which results in low prediction accuracy and poor efficiency. To solve this problem, we used an innovative Pearson-LSTM prediction model, which uses the Pearson coefficient to select features of gas concentration data. It then uses long short-term memory (LSTM) that has been optimized using adaptive moment estimation (Adam) to predict a time series. In the process of model establishment, the optimal prediction model was obtained by constantly adjusting the number of network layers and batch size based on the fitting effect, performance issues, and result errors. Taking monitoring data from the 2407 working face at Yuhua Coal Mine as the sample, we compared our method with the traditional Bi-RNN and GRU machine learning methods. The results show that, compared with the Bi-RNN and GRU models, the mean square error of the Pearson-LSTM model can be reduced to 0.015 with an error range of 0.005 to 0.04, which has higher prediction accuracy. This method has excellent precision and robustness for forecasting gas concentration time series. The model was able to make predictions 15 min in advance for the 2409 working face of the Yuhua Coal Mine, and the mean square error could be lowered to 0.008, which verifies the applicability and reliability of the model and provides a reference for ensuring the safety of coal mine operations. In summary, Pearson-LSTM models have higher accuracy and robustness and can effectively predict changes in gas concentration, thus allowing for more response time for accidents, which is important for coal mine production safety.

Abstract:In order to solve the problems of low prediction accuracy and inability to achieve long-term prediction in traditional coal mine gas concentration prediction, this paper proposes a new gas concentration prediction framework based on the problem of independent gate units of traditional Long Short Time Memory (LSTM) neural network—"Trend Prediction-Time Point Prediction" (TP-TPP) structure, and it is the first time to add a selection gate mechanism to the LSTM model to construct the Select LSTM (SLSTM) model, which is in line with the actual production pattern of coal mines. Firstly, the data of gas multi-parameter time series are processed, and then the input data features under the framework of trend prediction are reconstructed. Then the modified Snake Optimizer (SO) algorithm is used to simplify the parameter adjustment process of neural network. Here the Encoder–Decoder–SLSTM (ED-SLSTM) model is compared with LightGBM, LSTM, Bi-LSTM, LSTM-Attention and CEEMDAN-LSTM models under the framework of TP-TPP, respectively. The performance of each evaluation index in ED-SLSTM is closer to the real value than them of other models. The results show that ED-SLSTM has higher prediction accuracy and better prediction effect.

Abstract:<p>Accurate detection of CO gas is crucial to the prevention of coal combustion. Tuneable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) is a reliable method for CO detection during coal combustion. The influences of temperature and pressure cause changes in the line strength and linewidth of the index gases' absorption spectra, leading to sizable measurement errors. To correct the distortion of the CO absorption spectrum caused by temperature and pressure fluctuation, a compensation model based on the grey wolf optimizer–support vector machine (GWO–SVM) was proposed. The results were compared with those of the single SVM, the back propagation neural network (BPNN), and multiple regression analysis (MRA). MRA was revealed to result in the lowest accuracy, which indicated that MRA is not ideal for compensation in TDLAS. The hyperparameter selection of the SVM had the disadvantages of randomness and blindness, which led to instability and large errors. The BPNN achieved better correction in the training stage, but severe overfitting occurred in the testing stage. The modified results revealed that the GWO–SVM model had higher accuracy and stability than the other models. It effectively inhibited the effects of temperature and pressure on the measured concentration and greatly improved the measurement accuracy. The equipment is thus suitable for CO gas detection with the aim to preventing coal combustion loss, and it can be further applied to loss prevention in other process fields.</p>

Abstract:The current single gas prediction model is not sufficient for identifying and processing all the characteristics of mine gas concentration time series data. This paper proposes an ARIMA-LSTM combined forecasting model based on the autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) model and the long short-term memory (LSTM) recurrent neural network. In the ARIMA-LSTM model, the ARIMA model is used to process the historical data of gas time series and obtain the corresponding linear prediction results and residual series. The LSTM model is used in further analysis of the residual series, predicting the nonlinear factors in the residual series. The prediction results of the combined model are compared separately with those of the two single models. Finally, RMSE, MAPE and R2 are used to evaluate the prediction accuracy of the three models. The results of the study show that the metrics of the combined ARIMA-LSTM model are R2 = 0.9825, MAPE = 0.0124 and RMSE = 0.083. The combined model has the highest prediction accuracy and the lowest error and is more suitable for the predictive analysis of gas data. By comparing the prediction results of a single model and the combined model on gas time series data, the applicability, validity and scientificity of the combined model proposed in this paper are verified, which is of great importance to accurate prediction and early warning of underground gas danger in coal mines.

Abstract:: Gas concentration monitoring is an effective method for predicting gas disasters in mines. In response to the shortcomings of low efficiency and accuracy in conventional gas concentration prediction, a new method for gas concentration prediction based on Particle Swarm Optimization and Long Short-Term Memory Network (PSO-LSTM) is proposed. First, the principle of the PSO-LSTM fusion model is analyzed, and the PSO-LSTM gas concentration analysis and prediction model is constructed. Second, the gas concentration data are normalized and preprocessed. The PSO algorithm is utilized to optimize the training set of the LSTM model, facilitating the selection of the training data set for the LSTM model. Finally, the MAE, RMSE, and coefficient of determination R2 evaluation indicators are proposed to verify and analyze the prediction results. Gas concentration prediction comparison and verification research was conducted using gas concentration data measured in a mine as the sample data. The experimental results show that: (1) The maximum RMSE predicted using the PSO-LSTM model is 0.0029, and the minimum RMSE is 0.0010 when the sample size changes. This verifies the reliability of the prediction effect of the PSO-LSTM model. (2) The predictive performance of all models ranks as follows: PSO-LSTM > SVR-LSTM > LSTM > PSO-GRU. Comparative analysis with the LSTM model demonstrates that the PSO-LSTM model is more effective in predicting gas concentration, further confirming the superiority of this model in gas concentration prediction.

Abstract:Intelligent computing is transforming safety inspection methods and response strategies in coal mines. Due to the significant safety hazards associated with mining excavation, this study proposes a multi-source data based predictive model for assessing gas risk and implementing countermeasures. By examining the patterns of gas dispersion at the longwall face, utilizing both temporal and spatial correlation, a predictive model is crafted that incorporates safety thresholds for gas concentrations, four-level early warning method and response strategy are devised by integrating weighted predictive confidence with these correlations. Initially tested using a public dataset from Poland, this method was later verified in coal mine in China. This paper discusses the validity and correlation of multi-source monitoring data in temporal and spatial correlation and proposes a risk warning mechanism based on it, which can be applied not only for safety warning but also for regulatory management.

Abstract:Gas disaster can be triggered by gas concentrations exceeding standard levels, and gas concentration prediction system can reduce the occurrence of gas disaster by predicting the trend of gas concentration and alerting engineers to take necessary measures whenever needed. With the increasing use of intelligent edge devices in coal mines and the limitations of some existing systems, developing a new gas concentration prediction system for large-scale intelligent edge devices has become an important issue. This work proposes to address the issue through a novel method for predicting gas concentrations by taking full advantage of multidimensional data in an intelligent edge system. Specifically, 1) it proposed a Single hidden layer Random Weights Neural Network (SRWNN) as the prediction model, which is based on interval prediction rather than point prediction; 2) It employs a Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) to train SRWNN; 3) To significantly reduce the time consumed during model training and facilitate real-time predictions, it proposes a distributed gas concentration prediction scheme based on an intelligent edge system; and 4) it conducts extensive experiments by using actual industrial data collected from a company to demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method.

Abstract:Air quality is changing due to the influence of industry, agriculture, people's living activities and other factors. Traditional machine learning methods generally do not consider the time series of the data itself and cannot handle long-range dependencies, thus ignoring information relevant to the predicted items and affecting the accuracy of air quality predictions. Therefore, an attention mechanism is introduced based on the long short term memory network model (LSTM), which attenuates unimportant information by controlling the proportion of the weight distribution. Finally, an integrated lightGBM+LSTM-attention model was constructed based on the light gradient boosting machine (lightGBM), and the prediction results were compared with those of 11 models. The experimental results show that the integrated model constructed in this article performs better, with the coefficient of determination (R2) of prediction accuracy reaching 0.969 and the root mean square error (RMSE) improving by 5.09, 4.94, 4.85 and 4.0 respectively compared to other models, verifying the superiority of the model.

Abstract:Gas accidents threaten the safety of underground coal mining, which are always accompanied by abnormal gas concentration trend. The purpose of this paper is to improve the prediction accuracy of gas concentration so as to prevent gas accidents and improve the level of coal mine safety management. Combining the LSTM model with the LightGBM model, the LSTM-LightGBM model is proposed with variable weight combination method based on residual assignment, which considers not only the time subsequence feature of data, but also the nonlinear characteristics of data. During the data preprocessing, the optimal parameters of gas concentration prediction are determined through the analysis of the Pearson correlation coefficients of different sensor data. The experimental results demonstrate that the mean absolute errors of LSTM-LighGBM, LSTM and LightGBM are 1.94%, 2.19% and 2.77%, respectively. The accuracy of LSTM-LightGBM variable weight combination model is better than that of the two above models, respectively. In this way, this study provides a novel idea and method for gas accident prevention based on gas concentration prediction.

Abstract:The Long Short-Term Memory neural network is a specialized architecture designed for handling time series data, extensively applied in the field of predicting gas concentrations. In the harsh conditions prevalent in coal mines, the time series data of gas concentrations collected by sensors are susceptible to noise interference. Directly inputting such noisy data into a neural network for training would significantly reduce predictive accuracy and lead to deviations from the actual values. The Empirical Mode Decomposition method, commonly employed in gas concentration prediction, faces challenges in practical engineering applications due to the substantial influence of newly acquired data on the initial decomposition subsequence values. Consequently, it is difficult to use this method as intended. Conversely, the Wavelet Threshold Denoising method does not encounter this issue. Furthermore, gas concentration sequences exhibit chaotic characteristics. Performing phase space reconstruction allows for the extraction of additional valuable hidden information. In light of these factors, a prediction model is proposed, integrating WTD, Phase Space Reconstruction, and LSTM neural networks. Initially, the gas concentration sequence itself is subjected to wavelet threshold denoising. Subsequently, phase space reconstruction is performed, and the resulting reconstructed phase space matrix serves as the input for the LSTM neural network. The outcomes from the final LSTM neural network reveal that the PS method indeed extracts more valuable information. The Mean Absolute Error and Root Mean Square Error are reduced by 35.1% and 25%, respectively. Additionally, when compared to the PS-LSTM model without utilizing the WTD method, the WTD-PS-LSTM predictive model showcases reductions of 77.1% and 80% in MAE and RMSE, respectively. Compared with the LSTM model, the MAE and RMSE of the WTD-PS-LSTM prediction model were reduced by 81.4% and 82.6%, respectively. This greatly improves the credibility of whether or not a response related to coal mine safety management is implemented.

Abstract:<p>Gas is one of the most dangerous byproducts of coal in mines. Before gas accidents occur, an abnormally increased gas concentration can be observed. Therefore, a prediction of the gas concentration in coal mines is of great significance to prevent the gas accident and ensure the production safety in the mines. By calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient for the gas concentration of different sensors, the spatial correlation of the gas concentration that is monitored for each mining face is verified. We present multi-step prediction results for gas concentration time series based on the ARMA model, the CHAOS model and the Encoder-Decoder model (single-sensor and multi-sensor) and compare these results. The Encoder-Decoder model provides high robustness in a multi-step prediction and can predict the gas concentration for five different time steps. Its prediction error is significantly lower than those of the ARMA and the CHAOS models. The prediction accuracy is further improved through a fusion with information of other sensors. In this way, this study provides a novel concept and method for gas accident prevention.</p>

Abstract:In order to accurately predict the gas concentration, find out the gas abnormal emission in advance, and take effective measures to reduce the gas concentration in time, this paper analyzes multivariate monitoring data and proposes a new dynamic combined prediction method of gas concentration. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient is applied for the dynamic optimization of prediction indicators. The time series and spatial topology features of the optimized indicators are extracted and input into the combined prediction model of gas concentration based on indicators dynamic optimization and Bi-LSTMs (Bi-directional Long Short-term Memory), which can predict the gas concentration for the next 30 min. The results show that the other gas concentration, temperature, and humidity indicators are strongly correlated with the gas concentration to be predicted, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient is up to 0.92 at most. The average R2 of predicted value and real value is 0.965, and the average prediction efficiency R for gas abnormal or normal emission is 79.9%. Compared with the other models, the proposed dynamic optimized indicators combined model is more accurate, and the missing alarm of gas abnormal emission is significantly alleviated, which greatly improves the early alarming accuracy. It can assist the safety monitoring personnel in decision making and has certain significance to improve the safety production efficiency of coal mines.
