Abstract:The usage of supercritical CO2 closed Brayton cycle in a hypersonic vehicle can significantly improve the cooling performance of scramjet. Intense aerodynamic heating and heat release from the combustion make the cooling channel have a large heat-to-mass ratio, which complicates the thermal behavior of supercritical CO2. In this paper, A three-dimensional numerical model in terms of CO2 real properties is built to study the effects of structural parameters on flow and heat transfer in the cooling channel. The simulation results show that the cooling performance is optimal at a relatively small aspect ratio (≈1), since the specific heat of supercritical CO2 is much lower than that of conventional coolants such as hydrocarbon fuel. Interestingly, there is still a local heat transfer deterioration at the optimal aspect ratio. To explain this special phenomenon, an approximate expression of the heat transfer coefficient is obtained through the theoretical derivation, considering the coupled effect of thermophysical properties and turbulence. According to the established theoretical model, the local decrease of the turbulent viscosity and the specific heat weakens the heat transfer coefficient, because special changes in thermophysical properties induce local attenuation of turbulence in the corresponding temperature range. Thinner boundary layer at low aspect ratio further increases their influence on the heat transfer coefficient, which in turn causes a significant decrease in the heat transfer coefficient.
