Abstract:Following the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the flow cytometric data shown in Fig. 2D on p. 1675 had already been submitted in different form in the following paper written by different authors at different research institutes: Tian R, Li Y and Gao M: Shikonin causes cell‑cycle arrest and induces apoptosis by regulating the EGFR‑NF‑κB signalling pathway in human epidermoid carcinoma A431 cells. Biosci Rep 28: e00189, 2015. After having conducted an independent review of the data in this figure in the Editorial Office, the concerns of the reader were found to be validated. Therefore, since the contentious data in the above article had already been submitted for publication prior to its submission to International Journal of Oncology, the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. Abstract:Following the publication of this paper, it was drawn to the Editor's attention by a concerned reader that the control GAPDH western blotting bands shown in Fig. 4H on p. 496 were strikingly similar to data that were submitted for publication in advance of this article in different form by different authors at different research institutes [Liu F, Bai C and Guo Z: The prognostic value of osteopontin in limited‑stage small cell lung cancer patients and its mechanism. Oncotarget 8: 70084‑70096, 2017]. A further independent investigation conducted in the Editorial Office revealed that other western blotting data were likely to have been shared in common, comparing between the two articles. Owing to the fact that the contentious data in the above article had already been submitted for publication prior to the submission of this article to Oncology Reports, the Editor has decided that this paper should be retracted from the Journal. The retraction has been agreed upon following an investigation into concerns raised by a third party, which revealed inappropriate duplications of image panels (Figures 2D, 3, 4G, 6A and F) within the article and between this and other articles that were previously published or published shortly after in a different scientific context. The authors were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation and the provided raw data could not explain the identified issues, which has led the editors to lose confidence in the data presented. Therefore, the editors consider the conclusions substantially compromised and are retracting the paper. The co-author, J. Shen stated that they were not involved in this research and had no knowledge about its publication, and their correspondence email address was added without their consent. The authors, including Z. Abstract:Osteosarcoma (OS) is the most common primary malignant bone tumor with high morbidity in young adults and adolescents. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that aberrant microRNA (miRNA) expression is involved in OS occurrence and development. miR-150 has been recently widely studied in many cancers, but not including OS. This study is aimed to investigate the expression and biological role of miR-150 in OS. Here, we found that miR-150 expression was consistently downregulated in OS tissues and cell lines compared with the matched adjacent normal tissues and human normal osteoblast cells (NHOst), and its expression was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage. Functional study showed that restoration of miR-150 expression in OS cells could inhibit cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and induced apoptosis in vitro as well as suppressed tumor growth of OS in vivo. Mechanistically, IGF2 mRNA-binding protein 1(IGF2BP1) was confirmed to act as a direct target of miR-150, and the IGF2BP1 mRNA expression was inversely correlated with the level of miR-150 in OS tissues. In addition, downregulation of endogenous IGF2BP1 exhibited similar effects of overexpression of miR-150. Taken together, these findings suggest that miR-150 functions as a tumor suppressor in OS partially by targeting IGF2BP1.
