Abstract:Herein, MoO3 nanowires (Fe-MoO3 NWs) along the [110] direction were successfully synthesized in the presence of Fe3+ cations. The Fe-MoO3 NWs present a large specific surface area of 174.7 m(2) g(-1) and rich surface -OH groups, and the possible formation mechanism of such a structure is due to the adsorption of Fe3+ cations toward non-(110) planes of MoO3 in solution with pH greater than its isoelectric point. The obtained Fe-MoO3 NWs show excellent and highly selective adsorption capacity toward quasi-phenothiazine dyes (methylene blue, toluidine blue, azure I, and acridine orange). The dye removal rate could reach 99% in 3 min, and the maximum adsorption capacity is up to 144.3 mg g(-1) and the adsorption is up to 28.86 mg g(-1) per minute, which is 11 times greater than that of pure MoO3 and far greater than that of the recently reported MoO3 nanostructures. This excellent selective adsorption performance of Fe-MoO3 NWs was mainly attributed to the enhanced chemical adsorption of quasi-phenothiazine dyes by rich surface -OH groups and Fe species through hydrogen bond and coordination bond adsorption with N and S, respectively, which was confirmed by adsorption isotherms and adsorption kinetics. These results suggest the potential application of Fe-MoO3 NWs in the field of water pollution treatment.

Abstract:Hematite (α-Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4) nanowires with the diameter of about 100 nm and the length of tens of micrometers have been selectively synthesized by a microemulsion-based method in combination of the calcinations under different atmosphere. The effects of the precursors, annealing temperature, and atmosphere on the morphology and the structure of the products have been investigated. Moreover, Co3O4 nanowires have been fabricated to confirm the versatility of the method for metal oxide nanowires.

Abstract:It is well-known that the absorbing property of materials is related to the microstructure and can be enhanced by magnetic nanoparticles coating. However, the mechanism is still unclear that the magnetic coating structure plays an important role in the microwave absorption behavior. Hence, a novel kind of absorber with efficient performance and relatively clear enhancement mechanism is very necessary. To solve these problems, polyaniline@MoS2 nanowires (PANI@MoS2 NWs) and a series of polyaniline@MoS2@Fe3O4 nanowires (PANI@MoS2@Fe3O4 NWs) with hierarchical structure were successfully prepared by in situ polymerization and versatile hydrothermal reactions and investigated in microwave absorption. The results reveal that compared with the articles related to MoS2-based composites, the as-prepared PANI@MoS2@Fe3O4 NWs (e(2)) displays the widest absorption frequency range (6.48 GHz) and strong absorption (-49.7 dB at a thickness of 1.3 mm), and the excellent MAP can be interpreted by optimizing impedance matching and simultaneously inhibiting skin effect rather than only focusing on magnetic loss.
Facile synthesis of highly luminescent nanowires of a terbium-based metal–organic framework by an ultrasonic-assisted method and their application as a luminescent probe for selective sensing of organoamines

Abstract:In this paper, we report on a facile and environmentally friendly large-scale synthesis of metal–organic framework (MOF) nanowires by using an ultrasonic method without the introduction of any seeds, polymers, or surfactants. Highly luminescent nanowires of a one-dimensional terbium benzenetricarboxylate MOF, [Tb(1,3,5-btc)(H2O)6]n (1,3,5-btc=benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate), with an average diameter of 50nm and lengths of up to a few micrometers can be easily obtained in a relatively high yield under ultrasound irradiation at 70°C and under atmospheric pressure. The structure and morphology of the as-synthesized MOF nanowires were characterized by powder X-ray diffractometry (PXRD) and field emmision scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), respectively. The [Tb(1,3,5-btc)(H2O)6]n nanowires obtained show strong luminescence emission at 548 and 492nm, and exhibit high selectivity for sensing of aromatic amines, such as aniline and p-phenylenediamine, in comparison with alkylamines (e.g. methylamine, ethylamine, n-propylamine, n-butylamine and triethylamine). Such a significantly selective luminescence quenching effect of [Tb(1,3,5-btc)(H2O)6]n nanowires for aromatic amines makes the nanostructured Tb-MOF-based sensing materials potential for sensing of aromatic amines in a mixture solution of organoamines.

Abstract:Abstract 3D metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can be appropriate templates for the fabrication of nanomaterials due to they have active sites exposed on the channel or surface, which thus provide them with improved catalytic performance. In this study, a 3D cobalt-based MOF [Co(H 2 bpta)] n (Co-MOF), where H 4 bpta denotes 2,2′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, has been constructed with the use of a ligand with a high carbon content. On this basis, a 2D magnetic carbon-coated cobalt nanoparticle composite (C@Co) was prepared by using the title MOF. Magnetic C@Co can readily absorb dye from the solution and can thus act as an inexpensive and fast-acting adsorbent. Moreover, we have explored the adsorption isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamics of the anion dyes in detail. The adsorption capacity of the C@Co for investigated methyl orange (MO) and congo red (CR) dyes were 773.48 and 495.66 mg g − 1 , respectively. It is noteworthy that MO adsorption is higher in existing materials. Thermodynamic studies suggest that the adsorption processes are spontaneous and exothermic. This study opens a new insight into the synthesis and application of carbon-based materials that enable the selective removal of organic dyes.

Abstract:A microporous indium-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely [(CH3)2NH2]2 [In2(H3L)2(OX)]·3DMF·2H2O (JOU-23) (H3L = terphenyl-3, 4′, 5-tricarboxylic acid; OX = oxalic acid), have been solvothermal synthesized and characterized. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction show that JOU-23 displays three-dimensional anionic framework with 2-fold interpenetrated nets and rare topology. Due to its anionic and porous framework, JOU-23 can be developed for effective absorbing and separating cationic organic dyes. Further studies reveal that both the charge and size of dye molecules would affect the dyes' absorption and separation. In addition, JOU-23 dispersed in dimethyl formamide shows strong emission at about 364 nm. Thus, it was developed as an efficient fluorescent sensor for probing Fe3+ ions and nitroaromatic compounds. The detection limit of Fe3+ is as low as 2 × 10−6 M (KSV = 59,755 M−1), which is excellent in MOFs fluorescent probe. At the same time, JOU-23 shows widespread sensing performance to nitroaromatic compounds. Especially, the detection ability of JOU-23 for nitrobenzene (NB) is good. Although the NB concentration reaches only 4.175 × 10−5 M, the quenching efficiency can achieve 86.4%. Further studies show that the quenching performance of JOU-23 is mainly attributed to the competition of excitation light absorption and the absorption of emission light by measured objects. These results indicate that JOU-23 can be applied as a multifunctional material for organic dyes adsorption/separation, Fe3+ ions detection, and nitroaromatic compounds sensing.

Abstract:Exploring metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with specific structures is of great interest in both theoretical studies and practical applications. Herein, using a commercial achiral reagent (nitrilotriacetic acid [H3NTA]), a nanoporous MOF family, M(II)3(NTA)2 (M = Co, Fe, Mn; M-NTA), is discovered in the form of ultralong single -crystalline nanowires. It possesses an extraordinary structure with a very rare seven-coordination pattern (MO6N) for metal ions and an unprecedented chiral 3D transition metal-oxo framework constructed by edge-shared MO6N decahedra and MO6 octahedra. M-NTA shows excellent activity and selectivity in catalytic hydroboration of alkynes, and M -O in MO6 is the theoretical catalytic active site that is assisted by the possible structural steric effect between the activated MO6 and two adjacent MO6N polyhedra. These findings indicate that the M-NTA family not only enriches the structural diversity of MOF materials but that it also shows potential for catalytic organic conversion.

Abstract:α-Fe and γ-Fe2O3 nanowires were successfully synthesized from FeCl2 solution with 1,10-phenanthroline as complexing reagent via a simple, mild reduction or reduction–oxidization process. It was found that there existed some folded ribbon-like nanostructures as well as nanowires in the obtained α-Fe and γ-Fe2O3 products. Magnetic behavior of as-prepared α-Fe and γ-Fe2O3 nanowires was investigated by the temperature dependence of magnetization. The formation mechanism of α-Fe and γ-Fe2O3 nanowires was also proposed.

Abstract:Herein, a magnetic chromium-based metal–organic framework (MOF) was successfully synthesized and applied for adsorption and removal of methylene blue MB and methyl orange MO from an aqueous solution. To achieve high adsorption capacity and selective removal of organic dyes, rational surface functionalization of synthesized MOF with poly (propylene imine) PPI dendrimer was carried out. The Fe 3 O 4 @MIL-101@PPI composite exhibits a crystalline structure with high thermal stability and magnetic properties. In addition, this framework shows a high specific surface area (116 m 2 /g) and porosity which is beneficial for wastewater treatment. The results indicate that Fe 3 O 4 @MIL-101@PPI composite can remove cationic dye from an aqueous solution more selectively and efficiently than anionic dye. The adsorption experiments revealed high adsorption capacity (93.9 mg/g) and fast adsorption kinetics following the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Interestingly, the regeneration study showed that the Fe 3 O 4 @MIL-101@PPI composite had appropriate reusability for dye removal with an almost unchanged structure after five regeneration cycles. This research provides new insights for the rational design of hybrid magnetic adsorbents with synergistic functionality and porous structure by combining the advantages of magnetic nanoparticles, MOFs, and dendrimers.

Abstract:NbO-type MOF nano/microcrystals were facilely achieved by tuning the volume ratio of DMF and H2O mixed solvent under solvothermal conditions. It was found that NOTT-102 rhombohedral sample obtained with DMF:H2O volume ratio of 15:5 has the largest BET surface area (3006 m(2) g(-1)), compared to the samples with the DMF:H2O volume ratio of 12:8 (2263 m(2) g(-1)) and 20:0 (1962 m(2) g(-1)) as well as the bulk NOTT-102, namely [Cu-2(QPTC)] (H(4)QPTC = [1,1':4',1 '':4 '',1'''-quaterphenyl]-3,3''',5,5'''-tetracarboxylic acid), crystals (2942 m(2) g(-1)). Furthermore, dye adsorption results indicate that NOTT-102 rhombohedral sample exhibits superior adsorption capacity (850 mg g(-1)) and adsorption selectivity for methylene blue (MB) in contrast to methyl orange, rhodamine B, and acid chrome blue K dyes, which may be one of the promising candidates for potential application in removal of organic dyes from aqueous solution.
Preparation, characterization, and magnetic resonance imaging of Fe nanowires

Abstract:A facile template method was employed to synthesize Fe nanowires of different sizes, dimensions. Comprehensive analyses were conducted to explore their morphology, structure, composition, and magnetic properties. The surface of as-prepared Fe nanowires was modified with SiO2 by sol-gel method to improve the dispersion of as-prepared Fe nanowires in aqueous solution. Furthermore, the relaxation properties, biocompatibility and in vivo imaging abilities of the Fe@SiO2 nanowires were evaluated. The study revealed that the SiO2-coated Fe nanowires functioned effectively as transverse relaxation time (T2) contrast agents (CAs). Notably, as the length of the Fe@SiO2 nanowires increased, their diameter decreased, leading to a higher the transverse relaxivity (r2) value. Our study identified that among the Fe nanowires synthesized, the Fe3@SiO2 nanowires, characterized by a diameter of around 30 nm and a length of approximately 500 nm, exhibited the highest r2 value of 59.3 mM-1 s-1. These nanowires demonstrated good biocompatibility and non-toxicity. Notably, upon conducting small animal imaging a 1.5 T with Sprague-Dawley rats, we observed a discernible negative enhancement effect in the liver. These findings indicate the promising potential of Fe@SiO2 nanowires as T2 CAs, with the possibility of tuning their size for optimized results.
Separable magnetic MoS2@Fe3O4 nanocomposites with multi-exposed active edge facets toward enhanced adsorption and catalytic activities

Abstract:We synthesized fluffy MoS2 material stacked by ultrathin nanosheets through adjusting different mass ratios of starting materials via a facile hydrothermal method. Surprisingly, XRD characterization results demonstrated that the intensity ratio of (100) to (002) of ultrathin MoS2 nanosheets was 0.90 with a 4:5 (CH3CSNH2: Na2MoO4·2H2O) mass ratio (M4-5). To the best of our knowledge, this value should be high, implying that the obtained MoS2 nanosheets exposed considerable (100) facets. Because the noncentrosymmetric Mo-2S on edges terminated by dangling bonds exhibits rich defects, high active MoS2 edge planes (100) prevail over inert MoS2 basal planes (002). To overcome its easy suspension and difficult recovery, the magnetic Fe3O4 was selected for in situ doping with ultrathin M4-5, and a unique structure of stable MoS2@Fe3O4 (M@F) nanocomposites-like randomly stacked rose petals-wrapped spherical chocolate beans was obtained for the first time. The introduction of Fe3O4 has to sacrifice some edge active sites, but after balancing the magnetic and active sites, (100)/(002) of MoS2 in M@F can also reach 0.56, showing that edges of MoS2 nanosheets are still multi-exposed. Abundant exposed edges of M@F provide numerous active centers, so M@F nanocomposites exhibited excellent performance for both the 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) reduction and dye adsorption. Therefore, it has great application prospects in wastewater treatment and reduction reaction and is also worth exploring in other applications.Graphical abstract

Abstract:Polycrystalline CoFe2O4 nanowires were fabricated by template-electrophoresis deposition process. The phase, microstructures, and magnetic properties of the sample were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results showed that this material is a single cubic spinel-type structure, and nanowires have smooth wall morphologies and well-defined diameters corresponding to the diameter of the applied template. As the of calcining temperature increasing, the saturation magnetization, remanent magnetization, and coercivity of the nanowires increased.

Abstract:By carefully controlling the reaction conditions, nanowires of Fe3O4 are directly acquired from nanowires of α-Fe2O3 in a reduced atmosphere at 410–430°C. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectrum, and transmission electron microscopic analyses demonstrate that the product is single-crystalline Fe3O4. The nanowires have diameters of 40–90nm and lengths of 10–20μm, which are close to those of the pristine α-Fe2O3 nanowires. By studying different growth conditions, we find that hydrogen can push the conversion of the crystal structures, while temperature determines the chemical composition of the final products. The magnetic properties of as-prepared Fe3O4 nanowires are measured using a quantum design magnetic property measurement system. The nanowires show a ferrimagnetic behavior at room temperature and their magnetic properties are strongly influenced by surface and interface effects. The Verwey transition temperature (TV=116K) is found to be a little lower than that of bulk materials, which can be attributed to the small deviation from stoichiometry caused by the oxygen vacancies near the surfaces. Below 12K, the nanowires show a spin-glass-like behavior owing to the disordered frozen magnetic state at the surfaces.

Abstract:Two kinds of hierarchical magnetic metal-organic framework (MOF) nanoparticles Fe 3 O 4 @PDA@UIO-66-NH-tar (mUIO-66-NH-tar) and Fe 3 O 4 @PDA@UIO-66-NH-citr (mUIO-66-NH-citr) were fabricated through post- synthetic modification. The novel nanoparticles were then characterized using SEM, FTIR, PXRD, XPS and surface area analysis. Owing to the porous structure and the high density of carboxylic acid group (primary sorption sites), the as-prepared adsorbents demonstrated very fast adsorption rate and much high adsorption capacity of methylene blue (MB, as a model of cationic dyes) from aqueous solutions in an expanded pH range. The highest adsorption capacities of mUIO-66-NH-tar and mUIO- 66-NH-citr were 381.7 and 432.9 mg/g, respectively. Experimental results indicated that pseudo-second order rate equation and Langmuir isotherm model described the kinetics and adsorption isotherm of MB accurately. Under higher solution pH (pH > pHpzc of adsorbents), the adsorption of MB by the two adsorbents was mainly driven by electrostatic attraction (EA), hydrogen bonding (HB) as well as π-π stacking, whereas cation exchange might be the predominant adsorption mechanism under lower solution pH (pH < pHpzc of adsorbents). Moreover, both as-prepared nanoparticles were observed to have high reusability, which could be used over six adsorption-desorption cycles without significant capacity loss.

Abstract:A new type of hybrid material (NCMTs@MoO2/FeNi3) with a multi-layer heterostructure was designed and fabricated via a one-step pyrolysis process using FeOOH/NiMoO4@PDA as the precursor. FeOOH/NiMoO4@PDA was prepared by the solvothermal method, followed by the nickel-ion etching method coupled with the polymerization of dopamine (DA). The as-obtained material was made of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes embedded with FeNi3 and MoO2 nanoparticles (NPs). Notably, the FeNi3 NPs exhibited significantly improved performance in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) and adsorption of histidine-rich protein as well as provided appropriate magnetism resources. The MoO2 NPs imparted a metallic nature with excellent conductivity, and the N-doped mesoporous carbon microtubes also improved conductivity and facilitated mass transfer, thus leading to enhanced performance in catalysis. Benefiting from the 1D hierarchical porous structure and compositional features, the NCMTs@MoO2/FeNi3 composites exhibited excellent performance in 4-NP reduction and protein adsorption via specific metal affinity between the polyhistidine groups of proteins and the FeNi3 NPs. The result presented here indicates that the strategy of combining tailored components, heterostructuring, and carbon integration is a promising way to obtain high-performance composites for other energy-related applications.
