Abstract:We give a method to determine an explicit solution to a system of two inhomogeneous linear recursive sequences of higher order. Our approach can be used efficiently in solving certain combinatorial problems. We finish the paper by considering a tiling problem with black and white dominoes, and we use the method as a demonstration to find the solution.

Abstract:The parallel solving of multi-dimension recursive equations has inconformity between the serial computation and the parallel computation.To solve this problem,in the dissertation we present three Krylov subspace iteration methods,PCG,ATCG and GMRES.Some typical numerical examples are used to verify the correctness and conduct the acceleration ratio test for these three methods.Test results show that these three Krylov subspace iteration methods are able to correctly resolve the multi-dimension recursive equations with satisfied acceleration property even in the condition of bigger parallel scale.
Complete polynomials using 3-term and reversible 3-term recurrence formulas (3TRF and R3TRF)

Abstract:In the first series "Special functions and three term recurrence formula (3TRF)", I show how to obtain power series solutions of Heun, Grand Confluent Hypergeoemtric (GCH), Mathieu and Lame equations for an infinite series and a polynomial of type 1. The method of proof for an infinite series and a polynomial of type 1 in the 3-term recurrence relation is called as three term recurrence formula (3TRF). And integral forms and generating functions of the above 4 equations are constructed analytically. In the second series "Special functions and reversible three-term recurrence formula (R3TRF)", I show how to obtain (1) power series solutions, (2) integral solutions and (3) generating functions of 5 equations (Heun, GCH, Mathieu, Lame and Confluent Heun (CH) equations) for an infinite series and a polynomial of type 2. The method of proof for an infinite series and a polynomial of type 2 in the 3-term recurrence relation is called as reversible three term recurrence formula (R3TRF). In this series I show how to obtain the mathematical formula for a polynomial of type 3, designated as "complete polynomial." The complete polynomial has two different types which are (1) the first species complete polynomial and (2) the second species complete polynomial. The former is applicable if there are only one eigenvalue in B_n term and an eigenvalue in A_n term. And the latter is applicable if there are two eigenvalues in B_n term and an eigenvalue in A_n term. By applying 3TRF and R3TRF, I generalize the 3-term recurrence relation in 5 equations (Heun, GCH, Lame, CH and Double Confluent Heun equations) for complete polynomials of two types in the form of a power series expansion.

Abstract:We study linear recurrences of Eulerian type of the form<math>Pn(v)=(α(v)n+γ(v))Pn−1(v)+β(v)(1−v)Pn−1′(v)(n⩾1),</math> with <math>P0(v)</math> given, where <math>α(v),β(v)</math> and <math>γ(v)</math> are in most cases polynomials of low degrees. We characterize the various limit laws of the coefficients of <math>Pn(v)</math> for large n using the method of moments and analytic combinatorial tools under varying <math>α(v),β(v)</math> and <math>γ(v)</math>, and apply our results to more than two hundred of concrete examples when <math>β(v)≠0</math> and more than three hundred when <math>β(v)=0</math> that we gathered from the literature and from Sloane's OEIS database. The limit laws and the convergence rates we worked out are almost all new and include normal, half-normal, Rayleigh, beta, Poisson, negative binomial, Mittag-Leffler, Bernoulli, etc., showing the surprising richness and diversity of such a simple framework, as well as the power of the approaches used.

In this paper, we prove that if $n\ge d+1$ and if it admits a meromorphic solution $f$ with finitely many poles, then $$\begin{equation*} f(z)=s(z)e^{v(z)/(n+1)} \quad \mbox {and}\quad Q_d(z,f)\equiv 0. \end{equation*}$$ With this in hand, we also prove that if $f$ is a transcendental entire function, then $f'p_k(f)+q_m(f)$ assumes every complex number $\alpha $, with one possible exception, infinitely many times, where $p_k(f), q_m(f)$ are polynomials in $f$ with degrees $k$ and $m$ with $k\ge m+1$. This result generalizes a theorem originating from Hayman [‘Picard values of meromorphic functions and their derivatives’, Ann. of Math. (2)70(2) (1959), 9–42].

Abstract:Motivated by the effective impact of the Pascal functional and the Wronskian matrices, we investigate several identities and differential equation for the Sheffer-Appell polynomial sequence by using matrix algebra. The matrix approach, which we have used in this article, is convenient to derive the generating functions of the Sheffer-Appell polynomial sequence. By means of examples, we apply and also illustrate our results to an extended class of polynomial sequences.

Abstract:For any fixed positive integer $n$, we study the root distribution of a sequence of polynomials $H_{m}(z)$ satisfying the rational generating function \[ \sum_{m=0}^{\infty}H_{m}(z)t^{m}=\frac{1}{1+B(z)t+A(z)t^{n}} \] where $A(z)$ and $B(z)$ are any polynomials in $z$ with complex coefficients. We show that the roots of $H_{m}(z)$ which satisfy $A(z)\ne0$ lie on a specific fixed real algebraic curve for all large $m$.

Abstract:In this paper, we show the existence of at least four nontrivial solutions for a class of semilinear elliptic problems with Robin boundary condition and jumping nonlinearities. Solvability of oscillating equations with Robin boundary condition is also investigated. We prove the conclusions by using sub-super-solution method, Fučík spectrum theory, mountain pass theorem in order intervals and Morse theory.

Abstract:Trees or rooted trees have been generously studied in the literature. A forest is a set of trees or rooted trees. Here we give recurrence relations between the number of some kind of rooted forest with $k$ roots and that with $k+1$ roots on $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. Classical formulas for counting various trees such as rooted trees, bipartite trees, tripartite trees, plane trees, $k$-ary plane trees, $k$-edge colored trees follow immediately from our recursive relations.

Abstract:In the present paper we study stability of recurrence equations (which in particular case contain dynamics of rational functions) generated by contractive functions defined on an arbitrary non-Archimedean algebra. Moreover, multirecurrence equations are considered. We also investigate reverse recurrence equations which have application in the study of p-adic Gibbs measures. Note that our results also provide the existence of unique solutions of nonlinear functional equations. We should stress that the non-Archimedeanity of the algebra is essentially used, therefore, the methods applied in the present paper are not valid in the Archimedean setting.

In particular, $ u_{n}\left( 1\right) $ satisfies a 2-order recurrence relation. These offer a new way to study for hypergeometric function. As an example, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions such that a hypergeometric mean value is Schur m-power convex or concave on $\mathbb{R}_{+}^{2}$.

Recursions Satisfied by Families of Determinants with Applications to Resistance Distance

Abstract:The main contribution of this paper is a six-step semi-automatic algorithm that obtains a recursion satisfied by a family of determinants by systematically and iteratively applying Laplace expansion to the underlying matrix family. The recursion allows explicit computation of the Binet form providing a closed formula for resistance distance between two specified nodes in a family of graphs. This approach is particularly suited for graph families with complex structures; the method is used to prove the 1 over 14 conjectured asymptotic formula for linear 3--trees. Additionally, although the literature on recursive formulas for resistance distances is quite large, the Fibonacci Quarterly and the Proceedings have almost no such results despite the fact that many recursions related to resistance distances involve the Fibonacci numbers. Therefore, a secondary purpose of the paper is to provide a brief introductory survey of graph families, accompanied by figures, Laplacian matrices, and typical recursive results, supported by a modest bibliography of current papers on many relevant graph families, in the hope to involve Fibonaccians in this active and beautiful field.

An Order Theory Framework of Recurrence Equations for Static Cost Analysis $-$ Dynamic Inference of Non-Linear Inequality Invariants

Abstract:Recurrence equations have played a central role in static cost analysis, where they can be viewed as abstractions of programs and used to infer resource usage information without actually running the programs with concrete data. Such information is typically represented as functions of input data sizes. More generally, recurrence equations have been increasingly used to automatically obtain non-linear numerical invariants. However, state-of-the-art recurrence solvers and cost analysers suffer from serious limitations when dealing with the (complex) features of recurrences arising from cost analyses. We address this challenge by developing a novel order-theoretical framework where recurrences are viewed as operators and their solutions as fixpoints, which allows leveraging powerful pre/postfixpoint search techniques. We prove useful properties and provide principles and insights that enable us to develop techniques and combine them to design new solvers. We have also implemented and experimentally evaluated an optimisation-based instantiation of the proposed approach. The results are quite promising: our prototype outperforms state-of-the-art cost analysers and recurrence solvers, and can infer tight non-linear lower/upper bounds, in a reasonable time, for complex recurrences representing diverse program behaviours.
