Abstract:Dy(OH)3 nanotubes with high aspect ratios of up to about 50 were synthesized in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol) via a hydrothermal method. Poly(ethylene glycol), as a nonionic surfactant, plays an important role in the formation of morphologies. Subsequent thermal treatment of Dy(OH)3 nanotube precursors at 450 degrees C for 6 h led to Dy2O3 nanotubes, during which the precursor tubular morphology was maintained. Selected-area electron diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveal the single-crystal nature of the Dy(OH)3 and Dy2O3 nanotubes. The morphologies and crystalline structure of the as-obtained products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction, respectively. By this method, we can obtain a mass of products.

Abstract:A novel and simple chemical reaction method was developed to synthesize dendrite-like La(OH) 3 nanostructures which was composed of centripetal arranged La(OH) 3 nanorods with diameters of 50–100 nm and lengths of several micrometers. The effect of different alkaline sources on the morphology of La(OH) 3 nanostructures was investigated. It is indicated that diethylenetriamine acts not only as an alkaline source, but also as a surfactant which induces the centripetal growth of La(OH) 3 nanostructures. Moreover, dendrite-like La 2 O 3 nanostructures were prepared by the calcination of La(OH) 3 nanostructures at 750 °C. The morphology, structure, and composition of the as-synthesized products were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD).

Abstract:We have developed a novel and simple method for chemical reaction synthesis of Eu(OH)(3) nanorods with a diameter of 20 - 30 nm and a length of about 300 nm at 90 degrees C using cyclohexylamine as the alkaline source instead of NaOH with subsequent thermal conversion to Eu2O3 nanorods at 700 degrees C. Abstract:Y4O(OH)(9)NO3:Eu3+ nanotubes and nanobundles were successfully synthesized from nanolamellar precursors in large quantities with a direct hydrothermal method. Different choices of solvents led to different products with distinct morphologies. Nanosheet precursors were obtained using water as the solvent while Y4O(OH)(9)NO3:Eu3+ nanotubes and nanobundles were produced by introducing ethylene glycol into the solvent. The observations of scanning and transmission electron microscopy are in good agreement with the proposed "rolling mechanism" and the effects of solvents on the morphology changes were discussed. The Y4O3:Eu3+ nanotubes and nanobundles were obtained by subsequent calcinations of the corresponding Y4O(OH)(9)NO3:Eu3+ precursors. The photoluminescent properties of the phosphors have been discussed in detail.

Abstract:Yttrium hydroxide nanotubes were hydrothermally synthesized via a metastable precursor, PEG–Y(NO3)3 complex. XRD patterns showed the product was a pure hexagonal phase of Y(OH)3. TEM images displayed that the nanotubes have outer diameters ranging from 80 to 200nm, wall thicknesses of about 30nm, and lengths up to several micrometers. The nanotube growth may have three stages: formation of a metastable PEG–Y(NO3)3 complex; nucleation and formation of Y(OH)3 nanorods; developing Y(OH)3 nanotubes. We proposed the Y(OH)3 nanotubes growth mechanism to be a nucleation-diffusion growth based on the characterization results. Y2O3 nanotubes were formed with smaller diameters after post-treatment at 500°C for 2h.

Abstract:Lanthanum hydroxide (La(OH)3) nanorods with 6–15 nm in width and 200–400 nm in length have been prepared by a simple hydrothermal process. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows that the nanorods are of hexagonal structure, and furthermore, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) identifies that the lanthanum hydroxide nanorods are highly crystalline. Moreover, the mechanism for the hydrothermal synthesis of lanthanum hydroxide nanorods has been preliminarily presented.

Abstract:The precise synthetic control of yttrium oxide (Y2O3) nanotube morphology is essential for their practical application. A comprehensive investigation into the growth mechanisms of these nanotubes is crucial for directing the regulation of their morphology. In this study, Y2O3 nanotubes were successfully synthesized. The morphological evolution was characterized through scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), and selected area electron diffraction (SAED), which elucidated the growth mechanism underlying the transformation from Y4O(OH)9(NO3) nanosheets to nanotubes. The initiation of this process involves lattice distortions within the nanosheets, resulting in a spontaneous curling phenomenon driven by the minimization of surface energy. The presence of NaOH in the reaction milieu initiates a topotactic transformation, resulting in the conversion of the Y4O(OH)9(NO3) nanosheets into Y(OH)3 nanotubes. Subsequent calcination induces a phase transition from hexagonal Y(OH)3 to cubic Y2O3 phases, while preserving the tubular structure. These findings offer strategic insights into the controlled synthesis of nanomaterials.

Abstract:A simple hydrothermal process is proposed for synthesizing SnO2 quantum dots (QDs), in which hydrazine hydrate is used as the mineralizer instead of NaOH. X-ray diffraction, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and UV - vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) were employed to characterize the product. The HRTEM image shows that the diameters of the SnO2 nanoparticles fall into a small range of 2.3 - 3.1 nm, with the majority being less than the exciton Bohr radius of SnO2 (similar to 2.7 nm). Analysis of the DRS spectrum showed the band gap of the SnO2 QDs to be 3.88 eV, exhibiting a 0.28 eV blue shift from that of the bulk SnO2 (3.6 eV). The mechanism for hydrothermal synthesis of the SnO2 QDs using hydrazine hydrate as the mineralizer is discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, Tb(OH)(3) and Y(OH)(3) single-crystalline nanotubes with outer diameters of 30-260 nm, inner diameters of 15-120 nm, and lengths of up to several micrometers were synthesized on a large scale by hydrothermal treatment of the corresponding oxides in the presence of alkali. In addition, Tb4O7 and Y2O3 nanotubes can be obtained by calcination of Tb(OH)3 and Y(OH)(3) nanotubes at 450degreesC. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction (ED), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) have been employed to characterize these nanotube materials. The growth mechanism of rare earth hydroxide nanotubes can be explained well by the highly anisotropic crystal structure of rare earth hydroxides. These new types of rare earth compound nanotubes with open ends have uses in a variety of promising applications such as luminescent devices, magnets, catalysts, and other functional materials. Advantages of this method for easily realizing large-scale production include that it is a simple and unique one-pot synthetic process without the need for a catalysts or template, is low cost, has high yield, and the raw materials are readily available. The present study has enlarged the family of nanotubes available, and offers a possible new, general route to one-dimensional single-crystalline nanotubes of other materials.

Abstract:Large-scale gamma-MnOOH and beta-MnO2, nanorods have been synthesized via the hydrothermal process assisted with CTAB at 200 degrees C for 20 h using MnSO4 and NaOH as source and subsequent calcination of gamma-MnOOH nanorods at 300 degrees C for 3 h, respectively. The characterization of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) indicate that the gamma-MnOOH and beta-MnO2 nanorods prepared are monoclinic and tetragonal single crystalline, respectively. Abstract:By a simple method, that is, by heating raw materials in a flowing gas at ambient pressure, Si3N4, Ga2O3, and ZnO nanowires, SiC nanocables, and SiO2 amorphous nanowires are synthesized without metal catalysts. The diameters of these one-dimensional nanoscale materials are greatly affected by synthesis temperatures. At suitable synthesis temperatures, their diameters are <100 nm. The growth mechanisms of these nanowires are discussed preliminarily.

Abstract:Nanowires TiO2 were successfully synthesized from layered titanate Na2Ti3O7 particles by a simple soft chemical process. Compared with other synthetic routes where some templates or reactants were introduced into reaction system, only raw material and dilute HCl were used in this simple method. The diameters of nanowires are ca. 20–100 nm and the length up to several hundred micrometers. Formation of brookite TiO2 phase in the nanowires was confirmed by XRD and TEM measurement. Based on our experimental results, an exfoliating-splitting model was proposed for formation of nanowire structure.

Abstract:Eu2O3 nanotubes have been successfully fabricated by an improved sol-gel template method within the nanochannels of porous anodic alumina templates. The morphology, structure, and composition of the nanotubes were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction techniques, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscopy, and selected-area electron diffraction. The results show that the Eu2O3 nanotubes are polycrystalline with a cubic structure. The outer diameter of nanotubes is 50-80 nm, and the thickness of the tube wall is about 5 nm. The mechanism of nanotube formation was discussed.

Abstract:Single crystalline tin dioxide nanoribbons have been synthesized in bulk quantity by a mild solution approach using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide surfactant as a soft template. The as-synthesized SnO2 nanoribbons have a length up to tens of micrometers, width of several hundred nanometers, and thickness of several tens of nanometers.
