Abstract:With the wide application of Web services, its performance has caused the extensive concern and becomes one of the key factors of determining whether it is widely applied further. Based on the idea of differentiating Web services, the paper presents a SLA-based Web services performance guarantee model to improve Web services runtime environment, and expatiates on the key techniques of realizing the model: the request class utility function, the predicting model of response time, the genetic algorithm-based resource allocation and the dynamic weight-based weighted round-robin scheduling algorithm. Experiments prove the model can guarantee the response performance of Web services requests and improve the stability of the system.

Abstract:With the development of networking, negotiation of e-commerce faces a new challenge. A web service-based approach for negotiation can improve the extensibility and interoperability of negotiation service. Firstly, the related works including negotiation forms, negotiation process, web services and ebXML are introduced. Secondly, the architecture of negotiation model based on web services is put forward. And the function and implement of the primary component of model are further discussed. Thirdly, the table storage structure for NSRC (negotiation services register center) is presented. Fourthly, an economic-based negotiation strategy for negotiation server is discussed and we get a result about two particular consumer populations. Finally, some problems about completing the model are proposed for the future work.

Abstract:In recent years, extensive research has been conducted in the area of Service Level Agreement (SLA) for utility computing systems. An SLA is a formal contract used to guarantee that consumers’ service quality expectation can be achieved. In utility computing systems, the level of customer satisfaction is crucial, making SLAs significantly important in these environments. Fundamental issue is the management of SLAs, including SLA autonomy management or trade off among multiple Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. Many SLA languages and frameworks have been developed as solutions; however, there is no overall classification for these extensive works. Therefore, the aim of this chapter is to present a comprehensive survey of how SLAs are created, managed and used in utility computing environment. We discuss existing use cases from Grid and Cloud computing systems to identify the level of SLA realization in state-of-art systems and emerging challenges for future research.
A Policy-Based Framework for Automated Service Level Agreement Negotiation

Abstract:Service Level Agreements (SLAs) play an important role in service-based systems. However, traditional approaches to establish SLAs are mostly manual and predefined which is not suitable for the highly dynamic and unpredictable service-oriented environment. In this paper, we propose a policy-based framework for supporting dynamic and automated SLA negotiations for Web services. In our framework, we extend the WS-Policy framework to provide a domain-independent policy language for specifying QoS constraints over the QoS attributes that are to be negotiated. Negotiation agents are dynamically created to perform SLA negotiations on behalf of each negotiating party in a P2P way using standard web services invocations. Decision making models of negotiation agents are also defined in a declarative way and can be reconfigured easily. We have implemented a prototype of our framework and demonstrated our approach through a case study.

Abstract:Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is being provided to the variety of end-users demands, thereby providing a better and improved management of services is crucial. Therefore, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are essential and play a key role to manage the provided services among the network entities. This survey identifies the state of the art covering concepts, approaches and open problems of the SLAs establishment, deployment and management. This paper is organised in a way that the reader can access a variety of proposed SLA methods and models addressed and provides an overview of the SLA actors and elements. It also describes SLAs' characteristics and objectives. SLAs' existing methodologies are explained and categorised followed by the Service Quality Categories (SQD) and Quality-Based Service Descriptions (QSD). SLA modelling and architectures are discussed, and open research problems and future research directions are introduced. The establishment of a reliable, safe and QoE-aware computer networking needs a group of services that goes beyond pure networking services. Therefore, within the paper this broader set of services are taken into consideration and for each Service Level Objective (SLO) the related services domains will be indicated. The purpose of this survey is to identify existing research gaps in utilising SLA elements to develop a generic methodology, considering all quality parameters beyond the Quality of Service (QoS) and what must or can be taken into account to define, establish and deploy an SLA. This study is still an active research on how to specify and develop an SLA to achieve the win-win agreements among all actors.

Abstract:Compositeservicesachieveamorecomplicatedbusinessfunctionsthroughthecompositionandinvocationofexistingweb services in internet environment.Due to the distribution and loosely couple characteristics of service-oriented architecture,stable QoS plays an important role in stable business relationship between the two sides of services.Service level agreement (SLA)provides the basis for QoS management for cloud computing context.According to SLA-based QoS management issues in service combinations scene,we propose a dynamic SLA management framework,which fully takes into account the different needs the customers numbers and types dynamically changing in cloud computing environment have on front-end of QoS in service composition.We also propose and implement two management modes:the custom mode and the hierarchical mode,and focus on solving the conflict of the back-end SLA in management process.We achieve the SLA coordination at both front and back ends of the composite services through dynamic planning and selection of composite services binding structure.We realise a prototype system based on the management framework proposed in this paper,and verify the effectiveness of the proposed framework and management modes.

Abstract:Service Level Agreements (SLAs) play an important role in guaranteeing successful collaborations among autonomous entities in Internet-based Virtual Computing Environment (iVCE). However, traditional static and predefined SLAs are not suitable for the open and dynamic iVCE. This paper proposes a policy-based framework for supporting dynamic and automated SLA negotiations between autonomous entities in iVCE. Requirements or constraints on SLA attributes as well as negotiation strategies of negotiating parties are both specified in policy specifications using a simple but expressive policy language that extends the WS-Policy framework. According to these policies, a negotiation agent will be dynamically created for each negotiation party, which is responsible for SLA negotiations on behalf of its owner party. We have implemented a prototype of our framework and demonstrated our approach through a case study.

Abstract:Online shopping has already become the new mode that a lot of customers try to adopt. At the same time, the online shopping could not be successfully completed without logistics service. Logistics service quality (LSQ) has significant impact on revenue and profitability. This paper presents the issue from the perspective of the customer, and explores the initial factors of LSQ based on the online shopping through in-depth interview and the Delphi method. The survey uses a standard 7-point Likert-type scale to measure the LSQ. Empirical research results are shown in detail to confirm seven LSQ dimensions with Chinese characteristics, including timeliness quality, personal contact quality, order quality, order discrepancy handling, order condition and convenience. Statistical analyses of the investigation were conducted to test the reliability and validity of the LSQ evaluation model.

Abstract:The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to help solve a wide range of issues that relate to our wellbeing within application domains that include smart cities, healthcare monitoring, and environmental monitoring. IoT is bringing new wireless sensor use cases by taking advantage of the computing power and flexibility provided by Edge and Cloud Computing. However, the software and hardware resources used within such applications must perform correctly and optimally. Especially in applications where a failure of resources can be critical. Service Level Agreements (SLA) where the performance requirements of such applications are defined, need to be specified in a standard way that reflects the end-to-end nature of IoT application domains, accounting for the Quality of Service (QoS) metrics within every layer including the Edge, Network Gateways, and Cloud. In this paper, we propose a conceptual model that captures the key entities of an SLA and their relationships, as a prior step for end-to-end SLA specification and composition. Service level objective (SLO) terms are also considered to express the QoS constraints. Moreover, we propose a new SLA grammar which considers workflow activities and the multi-layered nature of IoT applications. Accordingly, we develop a tool for SLA specification and composition that can be used as a template to generate SLAs in a machine-readable format. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed specification language through a literature survey that includes an SLA language comparison analysis, and via reflecting the user satisfaction results of a usability study.

Abstract:Quality of service (QoS) management is becoming an integral part of current web services. Contracts are playing a very important role in MAPE-based (monitor, analyse, plan and execute) web service QoS management. Therefore, we propose a general model, contract-MAPE (C-MAPE) model, and based on this model, review five major projects in this area. The analysis results show that these major research projects are quite much following C-MAPE model, whereas they give different support on different aspects. We also analyse possible ways to achieve integrated QoS management, for web services and their compositions. This paper contributes to the understanding of automatic processing of formal contracts, as well as of the relationship between contracts, QoS management systems, and web service provisioning systems.

Abstract:Due to the increasing number of service agreements between service providers and users and the lack of standard in agreement specifications in service computing environments, there is need for an efficient service mapping and provider selection approach that focuses on Service Level Agreement (SLA) documents. This paper proposes a novel SLA mapping and provider selection approach with annotated ontological semantic information to WS-Agreement and advanced mapping rules using semantic web rule language (SWRL) and web ontology language (OWL) ontologies. The experimental data shows that our proposed approach is superior to other proficient approaches, because it can properly exploit ontological semantic technology in service specification and matchmaking.

Abstract:The user-centered service paradigm has attracted extensive attention from academia and industry. It advocates taking customer requirements as the orientation, maximizing customer satisfaction as the objective, then targeting to carry out market segmentation and multi-level SLA customization. There are two main challenges: personalized preferences of large-scale customers and resource constraints. In this paper, we propose a resource-constrained multi-level SLA customization approach based on QoE analysis of large-scale customers. With a deep generative network, we fit satisfaction mapping functions and infer the customer’s personalized preference interval for each QoS. Then, based on the theory of granular computing, a multi-level, multi-perspective and multi-scale granular structure for service customization is constructed. Finally, the best match between users with personalized preferences and resources with differentiated qualities is mined to obtain a reduced and balanced multi-level SLA customization scheme. This paper conducts experiments based on the real data of a hotel booking platform and proves that the method performs well in service customization granularity, preference coverage and matching accuracy. The method is an on-demand optimization and avoids over-optimization. The final customized solutions can not only meet the personalized preferences but also give play to the advantages of different quality resources.

Abstract:QoS (Quality of Service) guarantee has emerged as one of the most important technologies for the grid computing. Because the existing QoS control systems focus on designing independent executive management system, some problems still remain to be addressed, including low efficiency, bad scalability, and inadequate QoS automatic control. To address the above problems, this paper presents a novel SLA-driven system framework with verification and planning for QoS. The framework integrates functions of executive management with system services, achieves the optimization of system monitoring & management and automatic QoS control through a novel automatic combination of services, and scales well. The system framework with verification and planning for QoS is applied to heuristic scheduling to improve the Min-Min algorithm. An illustrative example and experimental results show that the system framework with verification and planning for QoS can effectively improve the efficiency of monitoring and management for QoS and facilitate automatic QoS control.

Abstract:QoSaaS is a new framework that provides QoS information portals for enterprises running real-time applications. By aggregating measurements from both end clients and application servers, QoSaaS derives the quality information of individual system components and enables system operators to discover and localize quality problems; end-users to be hinted with expected experience; and the applications to make informed adaptations. Using a large-scale commercial VoIP system as a target application, we report preliminary experiences of developing such service. We also discuss remaining challenges and outline potential directions to address them.

Abstract:The effective use of services to compose business processes in services computing demands that the Quality of Services (QoS) meet consumers' expectations. Automated web-based negotiation of Service Level Agreements (SLA) can help define the QoS requirements of critical service-based processes. We propose a novel trusted Negotiation Broker (NB) framework that performs adaptive and intelligent bilateral bargaining of SLAs between a service provider and a service consumer based on each party's high-level business requirements. We define mathematical models to map business-level requirements to low-level parameters of the decision function, which obscures the complexity of the system from the parties. We also define an algorithm for adapting the decision functions during an ongoing negotiation to comply with an opponent's offers or with updated consumer preferences. The NB uses intelligent agents to conduct the negotiation locally by selecting the most appropriate time-based decision functions. The negotiation outcomes are validated by extensive experimental study for Exponential, Polynomial, and Sigmoid time-based decision functions using simulations on our prototype framework. Results are compared in terms of a total utility value of the negotiating parties to demonstrate the efficiency of our proposed approach.
